I LOVE your idea of the long handled baskets esp for the elderly & disabled. I just planted 100 starts of different willows this spring, how long before I'll be able to start weaving? How many baskets do you have to make before your good at it?
The basket with the rope-like fiber....I believe that is sea grass.
I saved up a bunch of dried iris greenery to make a basket but never got around to it. Please show us if you make any more baskets out of softer fibers.
I love all baskets, rustic or contemporary. I think I just love anything made from the ground up that's natural.
is that corn husks in the last basket? I like corn husks. I just grew a few plots of great corn this summer and have a fair quantity of corn husk. I put them on the garden as mulch, but should of thought about making a basket out of them. You can make corn dollies from them too.
It must! I love lights and herbs. I do have hooks up high in the living room, but not from my drying racks in the kitchen. I could add them. I'd like something less...factory made, though. For now I just tie them up to the cedar branches with wire.
Welcome to my world. I hope you feel right at home with me. I'll try to clean off a spot at the table for you. However, you may prefer just to sit on the freezer!
Oh good! I know there was another person who had commented that they were interested in this and I am so glad that I didn't rake them all up! That's an excellent idea about the pine cones because I can hang them outside my kitchen window. I'll video it for you. I don't have hardly any land compared to your beautiful spot, but I like the woods in the back.
I really want to make a pine needle basket. The new place we moved to has some huge pine trees! (but very pointy, painful pinecones that the dogs hate.)
Yes, I love making pine needle baskets. I've got one on the go now. I made a video of how to do it, but then it was too long so I had to scrap it! The video.
I looked it up online and found what I think is their shop and photos of all their baskets. They are beautiful, but very pricy! $1000 for an eagle on a basket!
The baskets range in size from pretty large to really tiny...so tiny they really would not have a use. They are works of art. As a matter of fact I talked to one of the ladys in the shop and they said it is becoming a lost art. They actually die the quills and create stunning designs in the baskets. I will try to remember to get some pictures the next time we are up and send them to you. The baskets are also really expensive!
on the island there is a gift shop where the Indians make baskets from porcupine quills that are naturally fallen. Baskets are one of my favorite things. Yours are so much fun.
Trouble is, I made most of them! I just keep my eyes open! I've taken to filling one with silk flowers and using it for a purse. It looks like I've just emerged from the garden, wherever I go! It's so much fun!
your a good peoples :) Neat baskets to!

Hi Nancy,
I use cup hooks screwed into the ceiling
to hang baskets high.I also use for drying my lavender & added xmas light in blue. My kitchen looks and smells divine.

A pillow it is. I force myself to get up and accomplish something a few times a day, otherwise, I wouldn't. I guess I putter.

Quantity versus Quality, eh! I'd love some long needled pine trees with cones on them and straw on the ground beneath them.
I'll try to make a pine cone basket, soon, too. Did I show you the one I have?
NancyToday 3 years ago
Yes, I love that one. I watched the videos from your group of women that you taught. I'm definitely going to make one!

smear peanutbutter in the pine cone, roll them in bird seeds and hang them up in front of your window! Your kids will love it!
I'm teaching pine needle basketry on Thursday. I'll bring you along! Wink.

Baskets from porcupine quills? That sounds wonderful! How in the world would they do that, quills are so short! How big were they?

I did find a nice basket in a store in Connecticut and did a Nancy Today on it back in November. It's probably one of the first ones on youtube now!
NancyToday 3 years ago
Thanks! I do love them, too. I realized after doing this one that there were lots more downstairs!
