yes but then we go back in circles to the question as to whose right it is to decide which course a nation's fate will take. The timing might be wrong due to economical reasons, agreed, but times wil change. In thismatter, we don't think about years or decades but centuries and I believe that I will see the golden harp on City Hall in Belfast in my lifetime still. It's a believe I won't and can't change as I have grown up with it and found it right. And it's a passionate one.

good point about the conomic situation. But the current financial hole a lot of countries apart from the ROI are in should not make the unity of the country a lesser prioirty. Then, one can wait for another three hundred years for the dram to ever come true. Just have and always had an issue with people giving their lives for a cause only to be told by others who were not willing to give the ultimate sacrifice to cease fighting.

If a people were fighting and dying for a cause you didn't believe in, then you 2 would adopt an opposing view and disregard the ones who had already died. You can't and shouldn't try 2 silence the people, whether they are for you or against you.
Their sacrifice was their choice and theirs only.
A unified Ireland would boost Britain's economy and further ruin Irelands.

@richjohnf -If the 'cute EU' falls apart, which it will do, Ireland may well be faced with a difficult decision to rejoin the UK. Ireland has been so totally relient on EU funding over the years that without an EU Ireland would be in a mess.
I don't think Ireland would rejoin the UK but you can bet a few mutterings along those lines would be said if the EU collapsed. I think Ireland would remain outside the UK and be forced to accept itself as a very poor nation with a low standard of living.

@richjohnf I don't think you understand what the EU has done since it formed out of a common market.
It was set up merely for the members to trade with eachother, but today the EU has its own national anthem and flag and a president (who was unelected by the people put placed in charge by politicians.) This is not to mention a single currency. All this was for the benefit of the Germans to rule Europe with Belgium, but today the Germans are turning against the EU and hate the Irish bailout.

I don't think you understand the position the ROI is in today. They were part of a meddling (as you would think) union called the UK. Guess what!! They are part of another meddling union today; this one is called the EU. I don't see you saying anything against the EU. The Irish are starting to hate it though. Who will look after them if they have no EU or UK? They had to go into the EU to follow Britain so they could carry on trading with them.

Ireland can't give Britain that sum, so we know who is better off when just a few years ago the Irish were cheering that they were richer than the Brits. The Brits also still give billions every year in foreign aid as well as what they give the Irish. Irish cannot look after themselves very well and always screw up.

Trouble for ROI at the moment is it wouldn't be able to cope with absorbing the poor north without making the economy even worse. NI is a luxuary you can ill afford.
