Leftwich was a heisman contender in college and was an extremely great qb. Injuries and del rio plagued his career. this is probably the greatest example of teamwork I've ever seen. Broke his shin which hurts alot and that was his plant foot and his lineman took care this is not just a team it's a family
still one of the most memorable moments in college football in my opinion. i mean how many times do you see someone with a broken LEG! not a rib, not a wrist, a LEG and continue going. and the support of his teammates is incredible as well
I think that this, coupled with his performance in the 2001 GMAC Bowl should definitely cement Byron Leftwich as one of the best players in college football over the last 15 years. Byron Leftwich and David Gerrard faced in that Bowl game and ironically would become teammates in the NFL.
Thats guts and glory! kudos Byron and O-line! Totally sucks you only got so far in your QB'n Jag days! It's not your fault tho! After seeing that, i'd been cheering for y''all as my 2nd fave team back then! 98% of all other QBs wouldve went to sideline and sissy'd out. We wish you a speedy recovery from your injury you suffered in the Atl vs Pit Week 3 2011 preseason game. I hope you really aren't done for the season. We may need you!
The only reason that Byron is a backup is because Mr.Del Rio doesn't like people that speak their mind, and he would rather have a guy like Garrard who does anything that he says, but sucks. I mean come on, Byron could come off the bench right now and easily be a starter in Jacksonville, but that will never happen as long as Del Rio is there.
Good on you, Byron. Same goes for Tebow for running for a 20 yard TD on his broken leg in HS. Even Philip Rivers played with a torn ACL. Cutler on the other hand, leaves with a sprain. What a coward.
Good story....I got recruited by Marshall to play baseball, on my visit the head coach told me that Leftwich used to come by practice and bug him to let him pitch. With no idea what he was doing he put him up on the mound: 96 95 95 96 95.... just a raw athlete and one tough son of a bitch
I remember one game against the Colts. The Jags lost 10-3, and Byron kept getting pounded and pounded and pounded. And STILL took it to the Colts defense, limping down the field.
I've NEVER seen anyone withstand the beatings that Leftwich has taken.
I think this may be one of the most inspirational moments in college football history!!!! incredible, if i had a broken leg i really doubt I would be out there playing.
Byron always has had a ton of heart. You could see it back when he was with the Jags to. I think people make him out to be worse than he was-he was a decent starter and he had some moments during his days as a jag. This is a great video.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUPERBOWL WIN! "Even though i'm a steeler, i still bleed the green, and not that forrest green either.." haha WE LOVE YOU BYRON GO HERRRRRDDDD!!!
That goes up with Merrick's gw field goal in the '92 national title game, Davis' gw td in the '01 GMAC bowl, and any Moss TD in the '96 season as one of the greatest moments in Herd football history.

Byron's downfall was injury. He's not a bad QB at all, as a matter fact, he could've saved Atlanta in 07 had he been able to stay upright.
