  • royal navy, sounds cool

  • This may seem stupid to say but if you weren't to read the title it'd seem like we were opening fire on the Chinese ship.....

  • For those about to rock.. WE SALUTE YOU

  • youtube.com/watch?v=2i7hB0Vklt4

  • Don't salute those communist bastards!

  • @nubbie1944 They aren't They're following protocol procedures!

  • We used this well before america was founded. We used it when Charles II came to power after living in exile in france because Cromwell beheaded Charles I.

  • Was that HMS Dolphin???

  • Yes, formally known as. It is now just called Fort Blockhouse.

  • A 21 gun salute is unique to the United States. It is 3 volleys of 7 rounds. 21 comes from adding the digits of our founding date, 1776. 1+7+7+6=21.

  • That is a myth. It has nothing to do with 1776 or American independence.

  • @enhanley This is not true. A 21 gun salute is the highest honor given by the military. it is used all around the world

  • i fired them cannons as well, when i was a trainee in sultan in 02 when i was on op fresco awesome real deja vu moment =)

  • sound out of sync :(

  • It's not out of sync, the speed of sound is slower than light so you see it before the noise hits you.

  • @somurray Do people not understand that light is faster than sound.

  • @I3eam Quite possibly the most retarded comment i've seen on youtube. For the sake of future generations of your family, please go and jump off something very high .... without a parachute.

  • I thought it was 7 guns firing 3 shots..

  • There is one gun, so it fires 21. Doy.

  • @RBDrummer5 theres actually 3 guns 2 for the shoot and one on stand by in case a shell doesnt go off, it has to be left in the chamber for 30 mins

  • But this is with the Navy cannons, I had assumed it was different?

  • The origin and meaning of the three volleys of rifle fire at the graveside during a military funeral has never been completely explained. One author suggests that the firing of three volleys over the grave stems from the same sense of superstition that resulted in the Chinese setting off firecrackers at funerals, the idea being to scare away the evil spirits which are supposed to hang around at a burial. In England in the 16th century, according to one author, musketeers fired three the Trinity.

  • The tradition of saluting can be traced to the Middle Ages practice of placing oneself in an unarmed position and, therefore, in the power of those being honored. This may be noted in the dropping of the point of the sword, presenting arms, firing cannon and small arms, lowering sails, manning the yards, removing the headdress or laying on oars.

  • Thank you!

  • Should also be noted that muzzle-loading cannons such as these, took a very long time to load. Once the rounds were discharged, the firer was defenceless until the gun/s were reloaded, thereby showing respect to the other party, showing they mean them no harm. It takes a while to load a cannon like that. Sponging, powder, wadding, shot, wadding, fuse, run out, aim...FIRE.

  • now i saw where the peope were firing the gun from i couldnt tell i have tched tht video lot and i was wonderi where re they firng the gun from

  • Firing at the Grafs Spee?? LOL

  • Did they sink the boat or are they as accurate as in Nelson's days?

  • Did they manage to hit the Chinese Warship Guangzhou?

  • I guess no, because they will be destroied at first...

  • wait there was 22?

  • CHINA-UK FRIENDSHIP FOREVER!

  • opium wars

  • British defeat at Gloster Hill. :-)

  • lol

  • lol

  • They did put up one hell of a fight though.

  • Yes. I'm not going to deny that the British fought bravely.

I repsect all soldiers, regardless of which side they were on.

Soldiers fought for their country, therefore soldiers deserve our thanks.
