@murdlok omg!!! ya thats it! lol thanks dude i just had to prove my bf that im not crazy and there is a movie where ppl turn into cats lmao!! thanks alot bro!!!
You do know this was a remake right? do you think it's ok to remake an obscure or not terribly well known or not beloved movie? some of your fave movies are remakes
@Johnlindsey289 Im well aware this is a remake buti think you got me wrong I think remakes after the 90s just dont justify the originals. I do like remakes like scarface, house on haunted hill. But just some of the newer remakes are just being thrown together cause they know people will see them.
This movie scared me when i was a kid i was 10 years old in' 82 the part when her brother jump on the bed when she was asleep i wouldnt sleep on my back 4 years .lmao
This movie was so freaky. My neighbor's parents had "the box" and she watched it at like 3 am. And said it was a crazy movie, I saw it a couple years after and was like "WTF" in 1987. Weird storyline, but rather unique.
funny coincidence that Malcolm Macdowell narrates those Pom Commericals which has Nastassja's Daughter, Sonja (who is arguably prettier than her mother...but both are beautiful women).
(Continued) I also have 3 cats of my own too. All felines, domestic and wild are such beautiful animals. That's another reason why Cat People was a very intriguing film. It is a unique cult horror movie classic. It's different then the usual suspense thrillers. It's an erotic suspense flick.
I remember this movie. I grew up in the 1980's and I recall the movie posters of Cat People. I own the movie now and it's a gothic and real sexy horror film. It reminds me of Wolfman, but this time people turn into panthers after they have sexual relationships. The only thing that bothered me was in the very beginning of this movie when the panther and the woman who's tied up meet each other (bestiality) and then it fades to black and there's incest in it too. But I think John Heard is cute.
Interesting fact: They had to use American mountain lions in the film and die their fur black because when they tried to use black Leopards they would always jump or climb onto something high because it is their instinct to do so. Also mountain lions, they said, work better with people and are more trainable. The close-up scenes in the cages are black Leopards and the scenes outside like on the bridge are the mountain lions.
The original with Simone Simon is FAR superior as a whole and much more effective, but I like this one too. Kinski does a good job and looks absolutely gorgeous and with Malcolm McDowell as the bad guy and David Bowie on the soundtrack you can't go wrong. A bit slow and when it tries to copy the scenes from the original it feels like those were out of place in this version, but ultimately it was fun. It actually works as a remake and as it's own movie. Not like these dumb "re-imaginings" now.
What do you think of other horror remakes like The thing, The Fly, The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Hills Have Eyes, Toolbox Murders, 2001 Maniacs, Halloween, Piranha 3D, My Bloody Valentine 3D, PJ's King Kong, The Texas Chainsaw massacre, Not of this Earth, Invaders from Mars, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Nosferatu, Let Me In, The Ring, I Spit on Your Grave, Last House on The Left, House on Haunted Hill, Little Shop of Horrors, willard etc.?
The Thing, The Fly, Nosferatu, Little Shop of Horrors, The Blob, and King Kong were all pretty good. Piranha 3D was fun, but I've never come across the other versions so I can't fully judge. House on Haunted Hill and 2001 Maniacs didn't do anything for me, and if Last House on the Left is like it's original, it'd probably be forgettable to me. Let Me In is being shipped to me and having really enjoyed the original I look forward to it. I haven't gotten around to the others yet.
Let Me In is excellent, have you seen The Crazies? a great example of a remake to a not terribly well known Sci-fi horror movie and produced by George Romero. Do you think Cat People 1982 is as good as those remakes i mentioned?
As I said 10 months ago the 1982 Cat People is not a perfect film and absolutely pales in comparison to the 1942 version (which is one of my favorite films) and the sequel Curse of the Cat People, but it's still decent. As for the other things as I said I haven't seen most of them. It's far superior to House on Haunted Hill and 2001 Maniacs. It's about on the level of The Blob and Piranha with me. Flawed but still pretty enjoyable.
Do you think The Thing and The Fly were improvements on the originals? they were these hokey 50's Sci-fi horror b-movies that had great ideas but didn't have the time or technology to do them justice back then. John Carpenter and David Cronenberg grew up with both movies and made their remakes for heart for the originals they love and made them better. Do you think this remake has more in common with Werewolf in London or The Howling than the original?
From a technical stand point yes The Thing and The Fly are superior to their predecessors (even Price and Marshall kept laughing at the spider), but with that said the suspense in the originals are positively nail-biting too especially The Fly. What the "help me" scene lacks in effects, the idea sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it. That pathetic scream and the spider slowly closing in...
I love both versions though. Yes this is similar to AAWIL.
@ADyingFaith It's about people who turn into panthers after making love to anyone except their siblings, and who can only turn back into their human form by killing someone. The man is kind of evil and gets eventually killed, while the woman (his sister) lets herself get locked up in a zoo after having sex with a man she loves because she doesn't want to kill.
mid eighties in noosa heads australia. i was 17 meet a woman early 20's invited me to her place we watched this movie on vhs while drinking beer .then she took me to her room and she turned into a tiger. great movie!!
i remember seeing this at a DRIVE IN?? my cousin sneaked me in?? and i remember i actually would hide my eyes, because i did not want to see the scary parts??lol!! now i laugh at it all?? what was i afraid of??lol!!
You were probably afraid of all the gore, blood, and guts in this movie, but CAT PEOPLE was also kind of like an erotic and nasty kind of horror flick, unlike other terror films since CAT PEOPLE had a lot of nude scenes and at least 3 sex scenes as well especially when Irena(Nastajja Kinski)waltzs around nude and in full-frontal nudity and loses her virginity thru her boyfriend Oliver(John Heard)in the middle of this flick just before Irena turns into a panther in Olivers bed for the first time.
Yep! Irena(Nastajja Kinski)was naked a lot in this movie just like David(David Naughton)was in the movie AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON since both Naughton and Kinski were both even shown in full-frontal nudity which is almost enough to make you think Naughton and Kinski were meant to be together aside from the fact that CAT PEOPLE was a flick about people who become wildcats and AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON was a flick about people who become wilddogs.
I loved CAT PEOPLE and thought it was an awesome movie especially Natassja Kinski in all her nude scenes which were just enough to sell plenty of tickets at the box office since alot of people liked seeing CAT PEOPLE just to see Nastassja Kinski naked which was enough to put the word "Kinky" in her last name Kinski along with the fact that this was the flick where Nastassja was drop-dead gorgeous & looking her best and brought out the animal in alot of people including myself.
@Johnlindsey289 Hi John. Though I enjoy the B-movie original of 'The Fly', I think Cronenberg's remake transcends it, particularly regarding the metamorphosis from human to insect and the fear of disease. Though the Vincent Price original shouldn't be overlooked, as it's one of the better B-movies of the 1950s. Regarding Carpenter's 'The Thing', I find it an enjoyable science fiction horror with extraordinary special effects. The 1951 original 'The Thing from Another World' is still satisfying.
The Thing 1982 was more true to the novel than the original, Carpenter grew up with the original movie since he was a kid and the novel when he was in high school "Who goes there" and he made a special remake that honors and respects both the original 1951 movie and the novel with his remake to show his love. What do you think of other horror remakes like Let Me In, The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Hills Have eyes, Dawn of the dead, Night of the Living Dead etc.?
Anyone thinks it's as good as these horror remakes? The Thing, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, The Blob, Last House on The Left, Friday The 13th, My Bloody Valentine 3D and Invasion of the Body Snatchers?
I prefer the original, bt this one was good. The 80's was the olny time that remakes were any good at all. I still would consiter this one a horror film.
