  • For some reason, this sketch scared me when I was a little kid. The baker's getting root beer all over his clothes bothered me a lot. For a while, I was afraid to watch Sesame Street because I was afraid that this sketch would come on. Once, however, when it did, I ran into my room and came back out just at the end.

  • @Pocockable It's not hard to understand why you were scared. It looked like serious injuries when he spilled the root beer on himself. Just because it's a show for children doesn't mean that there aren't some things that will upset some children. Some people would probbaly get upset about the thought of so much food being wasted.

  • Good thing the baker never fell on a broken sundae glass and sliced his back open to his kidney.

  • What is it with that kid and wind-up toys? He presents them in a few of these.

  • Always like the Four Arms boy, bet that was his brother right behind, helping out.

  • Attention Jim Henson: You are a good puppeteer, but a lousy baker. lol

  • Another Sesame Street segment which has been a faint memory to me after all these years.

  • Spilling a whole group of desserts is not wanted when for real.

For spilling a whole group of desserts, as long as it's 100% fake, falling down the stairs is not wanted when in real life.

The best thing for America to do is to use drop zones plus "Family Feud" mushroom-style buzzers.

  • What year were these filmed?

  • @firstpeter31822 1969.

  • @rayandreina Thanks :) And the baker must be an old man by now.

  • I remember the Bert and Ernie sketch that came before, with the cherries. It's similar to the pizza and grape juice sketch. Does anyone have the one with the cherries?

  • Which baker song has Jim Henson as Rowlf the Dog counting lights?

  • @JGCooneyLet's Sing a Song of 9!

  • @JGCooney

The baker # 9 song is the one with Rowlf.

  • 4 FISH

  • check the mess on the steps! that was a stunt man Alex someone... I remember and the voice is Jim Henson. Loved these when I was a kid.

  • who is the baker? he sounds like he could be the voice of Ernie...

also the glass didnt break at the end...or did it?

  • That humping monkey "Rind-up Toy" is very scary.

  • I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS LITTLE I WOULD LAFF MY ASS OFF WHEN DA BAKER WOULD FALL AT DA END ! I'M IN MY MID 30'S AND I'M STILL LAFFING MY ASS OFF AT HIM .

  • Even the Bakers were on drugs in the 70s....wooo woooooooo....

  • The baker is so clumsy he would fall over carrying nothing. lol

  • The poor baker just can't seem to get a break, can he?

  • warning seisure alert vid!!! ahahhahah

  • Roof Bear Flows

  • The baker at the end could never get it right. I'm not sure if he ever made it down the stairs without falling. LOL. I think he did make it one time... I THINK. LOL.

  • @asset68 Yep. I ABSOLUTLEY remember him making it ONE time.

  • wow sesame street has been around for a long time!!!!!!!!!!

  • Always felt sorry for the Balloon Guy....oooooopp!

  • That wind up toy kid got older since the Bakers 10 video. I'm sure he's in his late 30s, early 40's now.

  • He's probably in his mid 40's!

  • @mstatz

He sure loved wind-up toys lol

  • @eddiechinglives If you want to see some of those kids grown up, check out "20 years and still counting." There's Jon-jon who did some stuff with Grover, as well as Shala(?) who had some clips with Ernie and Bert. Actually, I'd like to talk to the girl that kept throwing "Cookie Monster" into the alphabet. I'll bet she's so embarassed about that!

  • Thanks. Will do.

  • @jeopardy60611

Were those kids some of the ones singing on the Baker films?

  • 4 balloooolllooooonooo?? funny!

  • @oldies1976 This came forty years before the debut of Balloon Boy supposedly floated away in a balloon and 911 was called.

  • The "lost" Baker #1 is available on the Sesame Street web site.

  • Nanto has posted this clip recently.

  • @libearian

It's also available on the "40 Year of Sunny Days" DVD set.

  • baker 1 1 penny , 1 wind up toy, 1 bird , 1cow , 1 belly button, 1 wedding cake

  • lol i used to cry after the baker fell because i thought he got hurt XD

  • Root beer float is that like doctor pepper

  • No, it's root beer with ice cream in it.

  • Does anyone here wonder what a Baker #0 would be like?

  • Counting nothing, that would prove mighty interesting....

  • I talked with hoopersghost on his clip for baker10 about "baker#0". Check on it, it's quite funny!... I liked the way the kids rose their voices a note when they counted 4 arms!

  • I wish if you have Baker 1?

  • @thomasisatwin

The Baker 1 sketch is on the "40 Years of Sunny Days" DVD set.

  • Of all the baker videos, this one sees him meet the messiest fate. I mean the poor man gets completely *drenched* in root beer floats. You can tell he's thinking, "there's GOT to be an easier way to break into show business".

  • Notice that the toys change position when they are close up.

  • I still say that baker is such a dumbass, he should've watched his step.

  • lol, omg, this is so funny and what a dumbass baker, he should learn to watch his step.

  • and i was going to hire the chef to cater my wedding!!! lol

  • poor baker couldn't even handle 1 giant wedding cake let alone 4 rootbeer floats. It's a wonder he wasnt fired, or hospitalized. whichever would came first. Also i noticed they did wind up toys for 4 and also for 10. why is this?

  • where is number 1?

  • 1,2,3,4,5,6,9,10!

  • I love clumsy Baker. The kids' chorus is slightly obnoxious, though...

  • what a waste of good desserts....is number one availeable?

  • Well there are no videos of it yet, but I heard there is 1 bellybutton as one of the objects, and 1 wedding cake that the baker has to bring down the stairs.

  • @whitecrow222

It's on the "40 Years" DVD set.

  • LMAO WTF IS THIS

  • man i clicked on this thinkin it was baker skateboards

  • ima thinkin the bakerz jim henson....thanx for the great memories

  • Comment removed

  • @adaniel6691 Yes & no. The baker's voice is Jim Henson .But the body is a stuntman named Alex Stevens.

  • After awhile the baker started to get on my nerves, I used to say to myself do you have to fall down all the time, try looking where you're going.....lol!

  • Outstanding!!!!!! this stuff keeps me a kid at heart...

  • 12345678910

  • 123456789 AND 10

  • Of all the baker spills, this is the best! 4 stars!

  • One Two Three Four!

...wait, I can't do this when I find the Baker #1

  • Well, they started with the number "2", so the baker would never have been carrying one of anything down those stairs, except one baker.

  • rumor was #1 was him carrying a wedding cake

  • thats what i heard,.. would love to see Number "1"

  • "One..... clumsy.... baker!"

  • You win for that XD

  • FOUR ROOT BEER FLOATS...whoop! LOL

  • That loopy baker never fails to entertain! And always makes a terrible mess!

  • Actually that was probably the messiest one.

  • Thinking of the Baker films, I was sure that in the UK the baker had four coffee desserts, unless it was my imagination. The mere thought of the word beer on a kids programme would have gone down like a lead balloon.

  • Do they not have "root beer" in the UK, radderschap? What root beer is, briefly stated, is a carbonated (usually sassafras-flavored) soft drink.

  • Root beer is sold in the UK, but very hard to come by - I tried it but found it's a very acquired taste. I suppose we have our equivalent - dandelion and burdock.

  • the falling baker is frank oz.

  • but wasn't Jim Henson the baker at one point?

  • It sure sounds like his voice regardless.

  • I'm pretty sure that's his voice anyway. Sounds too much like Kermit the Frog not to be.

  • It's his voice, but the baker isn't him.

  • i remember it now that i watch it..but i never would have remembered it without help

  • Ever notice the numbers at the end of the segment? All except "6" and "10" were yellow. "6" was orange and "10" was red AND had the same design from the opening. If anyone did see a "Baker #1", is the 1 yellow or a different color, like blue?

  • I always felt sorry for that poor baker lol

  • hehe I remember this, only I remember #6 and the baker fell with 6 strawberry shortcakes!

  • used to think the fish guy was gilligan from tv

  • Actually Sesame Street just recently started updating these skits. Now I don't think the clumsy baker is used, but I do know the song is.

  • What did you video tape this from? I'm wondering because it has no logo.

  • LMAO! You guys freakin' crack me up!! There is NO WAY that when I saw these at 4-6 years old that I would have ever thought about the baker using an elevator. It is amazing that now as grown adults (well except for me anyway!) that we make comments about these skits that we never would have 25+ years ago. Keep'um coming!

  • Hillarious! I've completely forgotten about the baker falling at the end. He sounds a lot like Jim Henson.

  • Well Jim Henson did the voice of the baker. The baker was NOT Jim Henson. The baker was just slient.

  • I actually have this segment on a videotape my parents taped back in 1987 when I was 1 1/2, and I always loved watching this segment and the baker when I was little, still do in fact. Also, he ALMOST succeeded in not dropping his creations in the #2 segment, but unfortunately still had balance trouble. :)

  • this baker skit game rocks

  • Lol,rootbeer floats,gotta make that some time.:)

  • There was a "one"...and the baker had: ONE WEDDING CAKE! *stumble* *etc* Jeez, I still remember, and that was 35 years ago...

  • We're the same age and I can just faintly remember it.

  • I think in the Baker #1 there was also an elephant. I do remember the "one belly button" and I only saw this ONCE some 35 years ago.

  • I dont recall "one Bellybutton" but it remember the the guy that opens the door does not reveal an elephant but a cow. I wonder if any one has the Baker #1 footage. and I hope it shown soon

  • When I was a kid, I had no idea that it took two kids to make four arms. The kid behind keeps his head well-hidden, except for a brief moment.

  • Never, ever, ever let that baker use dessert drinks again, because it would lead to broken glass and a messy baker. I'm glad he didn't do hot fudge sundaes! Then again, it would've been just as funny as this one!

  • are you sure you remember an 11 segment with 11 boston creme pies

  • There couldn't have been an "11" in a series on counting to 10; if a film like that exists, it's probably a parody and/or a fanscript.

  • Someone once made a joke on the muppet central fourm about there being a film for 100.

  • The guy looks who opens the question mark door has somewhat of a resemblance, to recent Jeopardy Champion David Madden.

  • He does indeed. Actually, that is actor Joe Ponazecki..Remember the Wally and Ralph skits (like Buddy and Jim?) He was Wally

  • I know that's Jim Henson doing the baker's voice but who is the actual baker?

  • @jonnytbird4789 It's stuntman Alex Stevens. He's probably best known for his portrayal as the Wolfman on the series "Dark Shadows."

  • Baker #5 has a great creepy moment that features Brown Grover.

  • Could someone post the Ernie & Bert skit that was briefly seen in this clip?

  • I can tell you are a big S.S. muppet fan. Over 20 years ago, I only recorded early to mid 70's S.S. cartoons and short films. I regret now that I didn't collect many of the old muppet segments, especially Ernie and Bert. I should have at least got those then!

  • Which Muppet segments do you have?

  • I have a couple that have already been posted plus the "Grover in a rowboat" segment I posted. That's it!

  • Well do you have PBS Sprout? That channel reruns older episodes of Sesame Street so you can get some old 70's muppet segments on tape.

  • Why the hell doesn't the Baker take the damn elevator?

  • The Count was operating the elevator.

  • Or at least get an assistant.

    When will he ever learn?

  • all we need is 1, 5, 8 and 9

  • There is no # 1 but I have 5, 8 & 9

  • I hope that they'll be put up very soon (especially for #5)!

  • I just posted #5!

  • Please post up 8 & 9

  • There WAS a #1. I only saw it once 33-34 years ago, but the one thing that I remember from it is a boy lifting up his shirt and saying, "one belly button."

  • You just rang a major bell in my head! I was four years old 34 years ago but I think you're right about the belly button! Do you remember a S.S. skit on in the early to mid 70's about a guy walking around with everything happening backwards around him? In one scene, he is walking through an open field and a plane flies backwards behind him. The plane was taking off and the guy was walking backwards and they reversed the film.

  • Is it possible they only aired the "1" one once?

  • @jeopardy60611

I didn't even know there was a #1 until I saw news about the films on Muppet Wikia, but I've seen that one now on "40 Years of Sunny Days", which I own. I remember seeing all the other Number Song series when I was three and four.

  • great video! The baker looks kinda gross w/ the root beer spilled all over him, but it's hilarious. Weren't wind-up toys also used in the #10 film?

  • No one would oughta hire him.
