  • This is a great clip of an inspired performance. Gretschsounds says Lou's Pete Townshend, based on the crashing chords at about 2:40, and that's pretty accurate. But of course Lou, the king of cool, gets the effect without the actual windmill. No knock on either Pete or Gretsch, but can anybody picture Lou windmilling and doing airborne splits? Me neither. Rock on, mofo.

  • new york obra prima.

  • CHUCK NORRIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN MAKE LOU REED SMILE

  • The album 'New York' is a masterpiece.

  • Fernando Saunders , Tony and Mike , Great

  • @gretschsounds

    He's Pete Townshend.

  • @CamelClass: You don't know what groove is

  • Gah I spy a soldano surf box

  • vvvvery good sounds here !

  • any body who has any thing bad to say about LOU REED ... is a Disrespectfull ignorant Fucked up, Hypocritical lower level shit eating vermin!!!!! When you create some thing of aesthetic value, multishades whoever the FUCK.....then you can talk shit.. till then SHUT THE FUCK UP you lousy turd...

  • seems like multi aint got any idea what real music is.... go home and play your Ga Ga music lil girl.....

  • why is everybody sitting??? nobody dancing to that fine fine music!

  • @vsister i saw this tour/line-up at the Queen-E back in 2000...Lou opened with this song!! and when no one got up to dance--he said: we were told that this was a fancy pants place--but that doesn't mean u can't dance!! and everyone stormed the stage at that point and danced to his R&R music :D

  • Lou Reed is a deeply unpleasant man - defensive/arrogant in interviews, and incredibly weak and lazy as a singer. He has consistently and deliberately ruined some of his own greatest songs in concert over many years now.

  • @johncoan he's also a genius!

  • Poor Lou what drugs must one do to mess up a song like this --singing is so fast --oh don't see a tooth pick in his mouth this time..sit at home and fuck your self.

    with crack

  • My god, they're much too fast - it's terrible

  • @j08boe if it's too fast, you're too old

  • This is one of the best Lou video's and songs out there.. the boy worked his ass off especially at the end of the song.. love the interaction between Lou and the band...

hopping with the bass, and tearing it up with the other at the end

  • Caught between the twisted stars the plotted lines the faulty map that brought Columbus to New York Betwixt between the East and West he calls on her wearing a leather vest the earth squeals and shudders to a halt A diamond crucifix in his ear is used to help ward off the fear that he has left his soul in someone's rented car Inside his pants he hides a mop to clean the mess that he has dropped into the life of lithesome Juliette Bell
  • ✓, ✔, ☑

  • i love hard lou

  • Lou, you need to get those boys in order as they are playing

that song too fast, so it's total blow up for this video: minus from me.

  • The bass playing is awful and simplistic and the drummer plays like a 5 year old kid!!!!

  • @raponte1955 It's still a shiteload better than what you could probably do..or are you Jaco Pastorius re-encarnate?

  • @MrHRamone LOL That's precisely the point.....even tough I'm not Jaco Pastorius incarnated I can still do it better!!!!!

  • your right about the ending to this song... I dont know if I have seen Lou having as much fun playing off the band.... and when did you see him work so fricking hard playing at the end of the song?

    another Lou Classic

  • Respect and thanks for the sharing this powerfull 'speedy' version, love it!

  • Słucham Lou reeda, płyty new york, Kocham Cię jak nigdy dotąd

  • you don't need a 5 string fretless bass to play lou reed songs.

  • @mindbodylightsound10 You also don't require a mouth to talk out of your arse..so keep your buttocks firmly shut.

  • @mindbodylightsound10 You also don't require a mouth to talk out of your arse..so keep your buttocks firmly shut. Oh and it's a 6 string bass.

  • @MrHRamone i'm not talking out of my ass, there are 4 chords in this song. you don't need a 6 string fretless bass to play this shit, this is about as easy as bass playing gets. it's like bringing a tank to a knife fight. also, eat a bowl of sour dicks.

  • @mindbodylightsound10 Lmao..a bowl of sour dicks!? heh heh heh..better than a bisque of festy creamed vaginas topped with a generous helping of cheesy crab sauce served with a sphincter nut salad and a feltchshake to wash it all down : ) ...would you like fries with that??

  • slow down lou, ffs !!

  • Love it. That bass is silly. But Lou's rockin the tele.

  • The last couple of minutes of this are intense. Just incredible. Love it.

  • Pero qué bien sienta oir esta canción!!

  • excelenteeeee

  • Thank you so very much for posting this brilliant material :) Denmark salute you :)

  • Difficile est assis facis hos dies

    (Latin ;-)

  • Her voice was like a bell.

  • As Sigourney Weaver gets older she looks more and more like Lou arf arf arf

  • I remember the concert in Colmar ( 2004 ), excellent !

    French Fan

  • My favorite song by Lou. When I met him, I said "I feel like I'm meeting Beethoven." He laughed and said, "Ah, it's just five little shitty chords."

  • @54markl Lucky you. I met him at this airport in Madrid, Spain. And I asked him for a picture together and he was like "get the fuck out of my way!". Uncle Lou...

  • is hard to give a shit this days!!!! great

  • Incredibly good!!

  • in the hands of a great poet the rock song has the ability to evoke an entire life, an entire world. after that intro you can just feel what it was like for him ... her voice was like a bell ...

  • Woohoo! Lou's the man - Thank you for this version ... I love both; it's hard to beat that "New York" version though.

  • @scumgod13 I think you're right about mixing it up and I keep coming back to it

  • i love hard lou!

  • AWESOME PERFOMANCE!!! Lou Reed Rules!!! Thanx 4 this version. I liked faster. THANX LOU!!!

  • I don't like it!!! I prefer the original song, that was slower and it had a melody!!

  • As Lou Reed often said - Fuck You!

  • too fast in my opinion - but a good performance

  • @bluepez57 Yea, I like it better slow, but he prolly plays this song so much he likes to mix it up a bit.

  • Far too fast . Seen it better . mince !

  • better than the album version by far. very moving.

  • Great Rocking version, though its hard to beat the album version.

  • LOU!!!!

  • Simply GREAT !

  • One of the best.

    Greatings from Holland.

    Thanks.

  • this is insane; just insanse.

  • Simply a fantastic performance.

  • TEMAZO! GRACIAS LOU REED!

  • I'll take Manhattan in a garbage bag with Latin written on it that says "it's hard to give a shit these days" Manhattan's sinking like a rock into the filthy Hudson what a shock they wrote a book about it they said it was like ancient Rome The perfume burned his eyes holding tightly to her thighs And something flickered for a minute and then it vanished and was gone
  • Outside the street were steaming the crack dealers were dreaming of an Uzi someone had just scored I betcha I could hit that light with my one good arm behind my back says little Joey Diaz Brother give me another tote those downtown hoods are no damn good those Italians need a lesson to be taught This cop who died in Harlem you think they'd get the warnin' I was dancing when his brains run out on the street And Romeo had Juliette and Juliette had her Romeo
  • Romeo Rodriguez squares

    his shoulders and curses Jesus

runs a comb through his black pony-tail

He's thinking of his lonely room

the sink that by his bed gives off a stink

then smells her perfume in his eyes

And her voice was like a bell

  • Welcome this is music!!!

Lou wanted music and music wnted LOU

  • Some fine bass work!

  • Now we know how Kings of Leon got their riffs for their second riff :D.

  • Great video, and song, from a true legend!...Thanks for posting.

  • In Lou Reed's own words: "You can't beat two guitars, bass and drums" ;)

  • agreed 110% : }

  • He's so lazy sometimes when it comes to his singing

  • Maybe... but the band (and Lou's guitar playing) is really raw, rocking and lively :)

  • He's a poet before anything else.

  • Its embarrasing to watch the more (Contemporary) bands after the likes of this.

  • awesome performance of Romeo had Juliette

  • now thats fucking rock and roll something most other bands know fuck all about!!

  • Great Song, Great Singer, Great Band. King Lou and his Incredibe Company.

  • I saw him during the "sex with your parents" tour...he gave off an aura, like he had brought new york with him....He was amazing...:)

  • eh,if once i'll have the opportunity to see him live i'll try to hold tight his wrist to feel the hudson river flow trough his veins...

  • what the hells up with this crowd?? I would give my left nut to be in the presence of Lou Reed

  • A fabulous late stage hurah for Lou Reed. This is a guy who's still on his game with a fucking excellent band in tow. I believe this is from the Ecstacy Tour. A great disc of the caliber of The Blue Mask and a tremendous tour. The show at Pier 6 Pavillion in Baltimore's Inner Harbor was legendary for any Lou Reed fan who witnessed. 2 hours of rocking at the ferocity of this version of Romeo Had Juliette.

  • Got to love this stuff !! Thanks awesome video

  • This is very impressive material.

    I love Lou Reed.

He is an exemplary human being, a great poet and a "world-historical figure".

    Again, wow.

    Thank you for posting.

  • theeeee best

  • doesn`t come any better

  • great service to mankind posting this buddy. I think the crowd there did not quite get it until the end. i love this song and seeing this version genuinely blew me away. Many thanks.

  • I really like the last few notes added to the end of the riff. It is slightly different than the album and sounds a lot better. I have this show on boot, it's fantastic.

  • My Lou-lust aside: this is the best performance of the song I have ever seen. And I'm pretty sure I've watched them all-or, if not, very close ! Thanks so very much for uploading.

  • Great version indeed. However, not so good as in Benicassim 2004. I can tell you, I was there, and it seemed that Lou was really having fun!:)

  • You're very lucky, Javinuche! I just love to see Lou smile- doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it's simply magical...

  • I want to be Laurie Anderson.

  • gotta love this version of lou's song--awesome, doesn't cover it--wow!

  • excellent version, thanks for uploading it

  • "You cannot beat guitar bass and drum", that's a quote from "New York" booklet.

  • Nothing better than a classic from one of the godfathers of punk!

  • This is a very good rendition of the song. But please, what are the names of the band members?

  • I believe it's Michael Rathke on guitar, Fernando Saunders on bass, not sure about the others.

  • And probably Tony "Thunder" Smith on drums.

  • damn straight busenlilly1. i could handle a 20 minute version of 'busload of faith' anyday.

  • fantastica!!!!!!!!

  • LOOOOU....

  • I wish Lou would perform "New York" songs more often in concert.

  • When I saw Lou recently, Mike Rathke looked like Eric Clapton. here he looks like Tom Green.

  • Romeo had Juliette but we all have lou

  • woooow!!

    I adore this song!!

    its amazing!

    thanxs for postting!!!!

  • hit it lou. awesome. thanks for posting.
