I am North American and also know some Russian. Just want you to know that your lessons seem to come across quite clearly and concisely. It would be pleasurable to use recordings like these to refresh my Russian.
I'm Polish so Russian sounds Russian to me :) Russian is a beautiful and rich language. I would love to learn it. As a kid we had Russian at school but we didn't want to learn it because it was the language of our occupier. We would just speak Polish mimicking the Russian accent and the teachers would give us bad notes for this but enough to proceed to the next class. But I always used to love Russians writers (Bulhakow) and song-makers (Окуджава)

@Gedd84 Well, it sounds like a hard language, I mean that the G, the L and a few other letters are very tough spoken, if you know what I mean! But it sounds great and I want to learn it :-)
@Gedd84 I am Serbian and Russian sounds very similar. I have been in Russia and I have impression that we feel each other as the belonging to same people in despite of the linguistic differences. A few months are enough and at once when you explain your Serbian origin you are "svoj mezdu svoimi". Old name for Serbia was Rascia " i v Nestorovoj letopisi Ruskie priehali iz za Dunaja iz Bulgarov i Serbov.
@Gedd84 I'm American, but I grew up with Russian in the house. I used to absolutely despise Russian, and I completely gave it up, refusing to learn. Luckily, before that decision I learned how to read and write Russian from my aunt. Now that I've fallen in love with my heritage and Russian culture, I can pick it up easily, and I have to say that it is the most beautiful language to my ears. To Americans in general Russian sounds harsh, but to me it sounds sweet and caring, almost nostalgic.
I am from Azerbaijan, but I live in Turkey. İf you want we can speak on msn or skype to improve our language. You could learn Turkish from me, I can learn Russian or English from you.
please try to understand it: I earn money allowning the advertisement on my channel. It's annoying, I do agree but I hope you take it with patience when I tell you that I got money for that.
In standard Russian, unstressed 'o' becomes 'a' , like собака(dog) becomes sabaka(you shold stress the second syllable in this word). As of the video: this girl has Polish accent, but it's not so bad.
It is very common to find pretty women in Russia. There is even that city, Novosibirsk I guess, which was awarded the city with the highest pretty women per capta in the world! LOL!!
I am trying to learn russian by my self what is very difficult because i have noone to help me with the pronunciation of the word. This guide is so wonderful. Thanks for post it. I have great difficult to learn the sound of letter with ь ъ in the end and how to palatize the word.
for me it' so strange "пожалуйста" is 'please' and 'you're welcome' at the same time. if one day I'll speak russian perfectly, I think I would only use "не зашто" as 'you're welcome'... "не зашто" is more similar to what we use in my language.
что это? где это? с такими лупами еще говорит )) ну ей Богу как для олигофренов совсем. И потом это скудное "литературное" количество не поможет иностранному туристу в россии , ибо в россии по другому совершенно говорят ))
@MyUnderSlungLink If you pronounce it the way it's written you'll be understood. Unstressed "А" and "О" aren't differentiated much. Same deal with unstressed "Е" and "И". Pronounce every unstressed "О" as "А" to get the Moscow accent.
Bad news; Russian stress is pretty irregular and unpredictable. However, you can look the word up in a good dictionary or reference grammar where the stress will be clearly marked. Putting in accents to mark stress is customary for Russian textbooks, since obviously a foreigner would have no way of knowing where they are without help.
This is proper you can learn from this video, if you want.
Please pay attention that when she says I'm ill and I'm tired she uses the femal form. Don't speak the letter A at the end and than it fits for a male.
I strongly agree with iurikorolev!this is definitely the best video on youtube to learn russian!!it has helped me a lot!thank you very much for uploading this video!
rosetta stone teaches by immersion so theres not any explanation for much, which can be frustrating especially when it comes to the grammar sections. i recommend it cause it does teach alot. I sent mine back and got my 6 month money back gaurantee. you can download it online for free but you have to install alot of stuff though. My brother speaks very well. He only speaks russian to his wife and never english. its interesting hearing them talk and having them to help me become fluent
yeah? 150 million is not enough for you? and how many people speak Latin? 0! they might teach it in school or the catholic church might say some phrases of it, but thats it! and u cant tell me latin sounds cooler than Russian neither!
The issue at hand is not whether the language is widely spoken , the issue is merit. I suggested Latin because it is a language that formed many other languages and it's seen as one of the most ingenious languages of all time. You are right; no one speaks Latin and so it is an obsolete language, but who cares about any of this anyways.
im learning from rosetta stone and my brother. he lived in moscow for 2 years and he married a girl there. they just came back to the states and its cool to hear them talk back and forth so fast. i cant wait til i can talk fluently like them
could u please tell me about rosetta stone, like does it really help u learn a good deal of a language, and is it worth the $500 or so?and how good does ur brother speak Russian from livin there only 2 years?
No that is false we love to smile but most just do it only when a we genuinely feel a smile and not for false pleasantry like in western society. Smile has a more meaning of love and friendship and not something that should be faked
@cortezawwris That's a pretty ignorant statement... it might be fake and it might not but that doesn't mean that you can just say that it's "false pleasantry".... they're two completely different cultures... to Westerners that shows plain indifference and lack of human warmth, to Russians it seems fake. You are judging something to be bad based on your own culture which is ethnocentrism.

When the o is unstressed, it is pronounced like an a as in "ball," or o as in "not." It all depends on the stress.
