@doningeniosohidalgo yeah, fuck the americans. especially the americans who lived the culture this show is based on, created this show, wrote it, directed it, produced it, starred in it, and distributed it. and even more so, fuck the americans who invented the internet and this website you're watching this video on. let's hope someday they "grow up in mind," whatever the hell that means
very atypical of HBO, they usually don't cancel. I'd rather say "fuck you" americans. viewer ratings were too bad because of the religious and philosophical motifs. yes, i background checked the cancellation, i'm not pulling this from my arse.
I could only realize how twisted is this series to look back again the two seasons, I think it is a series that needs to be seen several times in order to notice all the little details, if it is impossible for a third season..... at least HBO should do a special program to put a final conclusion to this great series.
@slightlyshattered No doubt would have paid to see the six seasons!!! :) , when people talk about the best series in the history of HBO always mention the sopranos and six feet under but certainly carnivale it's also one of the greatest from HBO.
I think there are very good elements using only the two seasons to make a final conclusion.
the eerie music and most of the scenery.... holy fuck, maybe it was just the time in my life when i watched through this series, but it haunts me and makes me envision a desperate, desolate and starved for hope american central midwest where anything could happen and the magic of this shitty midget ridden circus could stir the imaginination
Just started watching a week ago... hopelessly addicted, unsurprisingly! The title sequence is such a mood-setter for the show that follows... it's mesmerisingly disturbing!
Anyone know anything about that stone structure at 0.34?
I have Season 1 on DVD and the dark undertone in this video when Mussolini (is that Mussolini?) appears isn't as noticeable; it's lacking some of the instrumentation that's present here. I've also noticed the credits appear is slightly different intervals. Is this version of the opening from Season 2?
This is one of the best shows ever on television, & maybe THE best opening sequence ever on television. I'm still really disappointed that HBO canceled the show.
This intro really does make me wonder if there is an ongoing struggle between good and evil in history. Or at least good and evil parts of humanity like Humanity celebrating, dancing, playing baseball and enjoying life as opposed to Italian Fascism, Stalin's Communism, and the KKK"s racist terrorism.
I am so Pissed off That I was left hanging on this !! Where's the 3 rd sea.? I canceled my cable after that happened.bring these Actors back before they get to old for there parts please!!!!!!
@humokay50 No chance for a season 3. HBO dropped it after lackluster 2nd season ratings. All the actors went their seperate ways. It is HIGHLY unlikely that a show ever gets a second chance once the axe has fallen. Firefly got a movie after fans rallied. Star Trek the original series DID get saved for a couple more seasons due to fan outcry but those days are over. Someone else may possibly do a remake in the future, like Dune and Battlestar.
Does anyone know the name of the tarot deck in the opening sequence? What kind of art work it is and what the name of the deck is because I've wanted that deck ever since I saw this show <3
Best serie ever made .. they stped of sponsoring that because USA was not too well placed in that serie .. when Solomon Talks about when the men invented the "False Sun" wich it was refering to the athomic bomb..
But i love Carnivale, as it's creator as Writer Daniel Knauf..
Each character in it's details.. so interesting.. well done.. and a nice music too...
I think this show's opening is the best I've seen in a long time, it is really chilling and definitely sets the mood for the show and even the whole time period. The magician card with the demon falling from the sky and the face in the tarot turning into the Okie(or European, not sure) girl's face gets to me every time! Best music for an opening :D
It's such a crime that HBO abandoned this show. They never really promoted it, either. Brother Justin used to scare the living crap out of me. I had actual nightmares about this show. It was genius.
THey cancel all the good shows because Corporate America doesn't want you to ENJOY great art, they want you to CONSUME any crap that makes you thicker..
Accidentally stumbled upon this show through a friend since it never was shown in my country. Greatly disappointed with the ending, especially after knowing that it was prematurely canceled.
I dont know what happened with season two disc two, cause disc two says disc one and is the same copy as disc one, in other words i did not get disc two for season two. I got it for christmas from my brother and i dont know where he purchased it from. I e-mailed HBO about this, and i am going to have to wait for an answer, is there anything i can do? I dont want to watch it on the net.
I love this series so much. I was hooked after the first fifteen minutes. The only bad thing about watching it is that, like watching Band of Brothers, I'm spoiled and now have very high expectations for other series that I watch. When I went back to watching Robin Hood (season 3 was so awful with its bad writing) I kept saying, "Why isn't everyone dirty? It looks like they all just showered and had someone do their hair."
wasnt every opening sequence of carny different if only for one card/scene? It was canfcelled just like deadwood - but thats part of what makes it awesome... like rock stars dying early! Guarantees good sales!
So sad that this was supposed to be a six season show only to play for two. I remember watching the series premiere while on a trip to Pittsburgh 09/2003. I had once traveled with a carnival and it was great to see those folks as human and not as monsters. I'm sad that I'll never realize intent of the series and the outcome. It was good vs. evil & how our perceptions can drive us into judgment. Was Ben evil for being a carny, or was the preacher evil? We have perceptions of each man. *sigh*
Actually, season 2 answered the characters' motivations pretty well I think. Ben embraced his Avataric powers while Brother Justin completely embraced his evil side.
@ Phalanx : Where were you when Carnivale got cancelled?
Well, wherever you were, it doesn't seem you were keeping an eye on HBO's scheduled show list only to realize the third season was never going to happen.
what a great show indeed..it was cancelled because the production each episode became too costly...Great Show..not enough people watched it to keep it alive..its fucking business.
It was a great show about way too many things to list here. Basically this guy named Ben lived with his mom who hated him because he had the power to heal by taking life from something else. She died, and while he buried her, he met the leader of the Carnivale. He went with them, and SOO much more happened. For some reason, HBO cancelled it after two seasons. It ended with a cliffhanger, and never came back on.
if you miss it people.. do like me write them and tell them what you feel and asked them to create a mini-series that could let us have some closure with such a wonderful show. What is wrong with people? Are they all hooked on reality crap now. I know I cannot stand ONE reality show. I have enough of mine. What a minute. You mean to tell me it was canceled? I thought it simply ended as intended. It did end on a good note. Don't tell me there could have actually been more of this great great series.
I think they planned every two seasons to be a "Book". So in total, there were supposed to be 3 books. 1/2 season, 3/4 season and 5/6 season. But it was intended to be 6 seasons in total.
@youfan89 Apparantly, the creators were threatened with a lawsuit and this show just did not appeal to mainstream audiences. But hey, at least hipsters have something good to watch for a while.
this was one of hbos greatest and i'm sad that they just said bye like that without saying anything. without telling us what happened to brother justin and sophie!!!
Damn, no matter how many times I hear it, the bit which still chills me to the core is the gloomy undertone (sorry, not much of a musical vocabulary) that comes up when Mussolini appears. The Ku Klux Klan Wizard holding the baby is just chilling.
Dude i know. I feel that way about this and then Pushing Daisies. That show was canned and Private Practice continues. There was finally a show like nothing else and was not all about sex. I am not a prude so do not think that. Basically i am saying it was refreshing and beautiful and the writing was brilliant, just like this show.
Did this show have a proper ending? I mean, seeing as it was canceled, did it still have an ending? Or was it stopped during a cliff-hanger? I'm interested in watching this but I will definitely not watch an unfinished show.
I want to know to . I just got the 1st season. I love it. It was cancelled but does it have a proper ending? Don;t want to know what happens just if it does end. Or simply stops?
yeah it does have a decent ending, they leave it open but wrap up pretty much all of what they started in season 1, much more satisfying ending than Twin Peaks anyway.
HBO kept futzing with the nights and times it showed and I got screwed out of seeing the last show after having been a devoted viewer. Couldn't ever get the TIVO schedule to jive.
Sofie being the Omega is the next major chapter in the planned storyline. The next two seasons were to be devoted to figuring out what exactly she is, among other things. Too bad that never saw the light of say.
Oh that would have been awsome to watch. Did she really kill Jonesy. I hope she revived him or helped him heal. Damn That ending bothers me. Hbo should finish what they started and goe for at least a third season.
yeah I agree, or at least give up the rights of ownership so that the writers can finish the story somehow, even if on a different medium other than tv.
Oh my god, you were lucky. I live in Australia and I never even heard about Carnivale until this year! I love Dead Like Me too. No but they had to cancel that too. Can't they leave any good shows on. I hate fucking crime shows! That's all that's popular, no plot, no message, everthing predictable and conventional!
Okay, there's my rant. Carnivale is the most inspiring tv show I have ever seen in my life.
I first saw Carnivale Season 1 and 2 after it was already out on DVD and the show had ended. I love the show and I really wish that there had been more than two seasons. I love the intro to the show, it is the most creative and fascinating intro to a tv show that has ever been made. I watch it before every episode of Carnivale.
Twin Peacks is the single tv movie that I fint it intrique and special ... different from the rest.
Now I have the same opinion also about Carnivale. The thing is that I miss exactly last 2-3 episode, and I understand that show was canceled, how is final episode, is story close ?
Johnny Meah, the carny expert who gave his expertise to the show, has gone on to help create Carnivale Lune Bleue, a month-long carny experience in Ottawa, Ontario.
This is the genuine thing - Ten-in-One freak shows, Cirque du Soleil trained acrobats, vintage restored Ferris Wheels and wooden carousels, a giant snake show ... the works!
If you're gonna in Ottawa this summer and are a fan of Carnivale, you'll definitely want check this out.
People couldn't handle the messages in the show, so they killed it. Just like everything else people don't understand. And they were so close, damn...
Im sure they were making money off the show, just "not enough money". They killed this great series, i watched the last episode of season 2 last nite, wondering all the while if there was gonna be a season 3... i see the ending and think great, theres more! Hop on the internet and find out it was killed. Greedy sons a ...
This show was Hauntingly Brilliant. Addictive would be a good word in the least, couldn't get enough of it. I'd put it up there with such accolades as Lynch's Twin Peaks. Such out there, different shows extremely unique and short lived..what a waste. Ughh
i propose we get organized and break in the HBO headquarters, place a gun against Christ Albrecht's head and force him to give permission to finish the other 4 seasons Carnivale was supposed to have. you could say that this would be immoral but there are more important things, like a good T.V. show.
As with most good shows, the budget required to make such an opulent period piece exceeded what HBO was willing to spend; however, seeing as I'd never in a thousand years guess that a show this delightfully bizarre (not to mention addictive) would ever make it to the air, we should be glad to have the two seasons of this wonderful show that we've got.
Wish this show was still on HBO should have finished what they started This was the best series ive ever seen i got rid of my HBO when carnival was cancelled so did a bunch of my friends
The maker said he was gonna make the rest of it, but he doesn't know how long it will take to get it back on the air, and he said he really doesn't want to make it a movie but if it just can't become a show then he will have no choice.
But if you buy the DVD that will help hbo know that we want this back.
If you buy please buy straight from hbo, not used.
Why did they take this off the air? I realize the final battle between Ben and Justin happened, but they could have went on more with it too!! Well i guess u cant ride a good horse to death.
It was going to stop on the 4th season, the guy said it was like a two chapter book, this was only part one, and he had so many twists left, and I know what a few are. : )
Now HBO has fucking 'Hung' and a slew of other shitty shows...idiots.

yeah it does have a decent ending, they leave it open but wrap up pretty much all of what they started in season 1, much more satisfying ending than Twin Peaks anyway.
gravytrader 3 years ago
Sort of. The ending to season 2 wrapped up most things, but then left a cliff hanger that intended a new season

we need a new season of this awesome show.

HBO kept futzing with the nights and times it showed and I got screwed out of seeing the last show after having been a devoted viewer. Couldn't ever get the TIVO schedule to jive.

dumbest fucking move ever for hbo to cancell- (except for cancellation of six feet under..

If they had just left the Sofie thing alone then Carnivale would have ended perfectly.
FuriousGrant 3 years ago 2
SPoiler....well, kinda...
Sofie being the Omega is the next major chapter in the planned storyline. The next two seasons were to be devoted to figuring out what exactly she is, among other things. Too bad that never saw the light of say.
gariadara 3 years ago 3
Oh that would have been awsome to watch. Did she really kill Jonesy. I hope she revived him or helped him heal. Damn That ending bothers me. Hbo should finish what they started and goe for at least a third season.
VaginaWash4u 3 years ago
yeah I agree, or at least give up the rights of ownership so that the writers can finish the story somehow, even if on a different medium other than tv.
gariadara 3 years ago
I would always watch Dead Like Me on Monday and Canivale on Tuesday. It was epic!
FuriousGrant 3 years ago 2
Oh my god, you were lucky. I live in Australia and I never even heard about Carnivale until this year! I love Dead Like Me too. No but they had to cancel that too. Can't they leave any good shows on. I hate fucking crime shows! That's all that's popular, no plot, no message, everthing predictable and conventional!
Okay, there's my rant. Carnivale is the most inspiring tv show I have ever seen in my life.
Best fucking show.

I first saw Carnivale Season 1 and 2 after it was already out on DVD and the show had ended. I love the show and I really wish that there had been more than two seasons. I love the intro to the show, it is the most creative and fascinating intro to a tv show that has ever been made. I watch it before every episode of Carnivale.
magiccode12 3 years ago 3
Twin Peacks is the single tv movie that I fint it intrique and special ... different from the rest.
Now I have the same opinion also about Carnivale. The thing is that I miss exactly last 2-3 episode, and I understand that show was canceled, how is final episode, is story close ?

The show was art. Everyone needed an "ending". Beautiful show.

Hey Carnivale fans:

This show was Hauntingly Brilliant. Addictive would be a good word in the least, couldn't get enough of it. I'd put it up there with such accolades as Lynch's Twin Peaks. Such out there, different shows extremely unique and short lived..what a waste. Ughh

and this T.V. show is not just good, it's mind-blowing, amazing, full of creativity and vision.
Albrecht i'd wrestle ya for a new season!!
coolnameswereout 4 years ago
i propose we get organized and break in the HBO headquarters, place a gun against Christ Albrecht's head and force him to give permission to finish the other 4 seasons Carnivale was supposed to have. you could say that this would be immoral but there are more important things, like a good T.V. show.
Daniel Knauf we love you soopadoopa woohooo!!!

Carnival was The Best what i've had ever seen^^
lordSinbad 4 years ago 2
As with most good shows, the budget required to make such an opulent period piece exceeded what HBO was willing to spend; however, seeing as I'd never in a thousand years guess that a show this delightfully bizarre (not to mention addictive) would ever make it to the air, we should be glad to have the two seasons of this wonderful show that we've got.

Wish this show was still on HBO should have finished what they started This was the best series ive ever seen i got rid of my HBO when carnival was cancelled so did a bunch of my friends

I know--how could they take it off? Maybe there'll be a movie to wrap things up?
witcracker 5 years ago
The maker said he was gonna make the rest of it, but he doesn't know how long it will take to get it back on the air, and he said he really doesn't want to make it a movie but if it just can't become a show then he will have no choice.
But if you buy the DVD that will help hbo know that we want this back.
If you buy please buy straight from hbo, not used.

Two seasons just doesn't seem like a full show to me.
