A clever and smart musical robbery...The vieille canaille of Serge was a good musical thief, too....excellent band, underestimated...always loved them...
Absolutely beautiful track. A pity they never actually teamed up with Serge Gainsbourg - their music, his laconic vocals. He was doing this sort of stuff AGES ago - just listen to 'Requiem Pour Un Con' if you don't believe me. Top tune!
Three tracks all from the same time period all using/inspired by 'Bonnie & Clyde' - this, Saint Etienne's 'I Buy American Records' and MC Solaar's 'Nouveau Western'...and then a year or so later Oasis 'Wonderwall' with v similar guitar pattern. Just wanna know who had the idea first!
hey danny or linda - how about reposting the basstube shakin` mix as I`ve been trying to get ahold of the cd single again for over a decade since my other wore out...?
Yes it is...'The Phantom' aspect was down to my husband, Danny. He did 'The Phantom' when the others left the studio one night...He was left on his own and that was what he came up with...
Just the other day a snippet of this song came into my head (the background bit with the woo!). I couldn't remember the full song, or the title or artist. A few hours later the title jumped into my head when I wasn't thinking about it. It is wierd the way memory works. Sometimes, a piece of information you were sure you'd forgotten is locked up there somewhere.
Good to hear this track again, nice video as well.
Funny how, several years on, both The Wolfgang Press and Renegade Soundwave evolved into very similar beasts: dub/soul/electronic/groove with a dash of acoustic guitars, white funk, and sample-happy experimentalism. A far cry from the "Mass" and "Rema Rema" days...maybe they should've worked together again in the mid-'90s?
On the shoot Danny and Gary had time to explore the city, but found it hard to wake up so early to catch the dawn light for filming. A megaphone ensured that everyone was awake and ready on time.
I first heard this song in the fall of 1993. It was a hit on the underground radio in the town where I studied. The song also has a house version of it wich is less melodic. I think this guitar version is the best version.
Keeping a fine balance.....thanks

---from the press release---
The video was made in Morocco by Dani Jacobs.
On the shoot Danny and Gary had time to explore the city, but found it hard to wake up so early to catch the dawn light for filming. A megaphone ensured that everyone was awake and ready on time.

me too! seriously! i read a review of them live in about 1991 and they sounded mindblowing.
p.s. the leftfield remix of this is obscenely good.
p.p.s. i have a recording of them live in finland 1993....

I would give my first born and subsequent other children just to see them live!!!!!
