This is rather creepy music. However... anybody else notice that starting at 0:19, this song turns into a slower, creepier version of the first part of "King of the Koopas", the very final boss battle music? It's easy to miss since the epic guitars aren't blasting in your ears.
Why is it that this scared everybody? I remember playing this game as early as 6 years old, and it didn't creep me out, I just thought it was freakin AWESOME!!!!
@girtar forreal. This game wasn't scary at any point. Maybe remotely scary at the bottom of the ruins but if people want scary they should go to the bottom of the well in oot or anywhere in silent hill 2.
@obnoxiousoboe Hmm, that's a good question. I'd say Peach's Castle in the dark. I'd rather enter a ghost house than enter a big castle with no one in it.
@randomyoshi if i have the choice between a haunted house that has ghosts in it, and an empty castle with no ghost......i think the castle is less scary.....but the music of peach castle is scarier thought.
@randomyoshi I agree. I recently played through this when my friend lent it to me(never had a n64 till a few months ago), and I'm like 14, but the empty feeling Peach's castle gave was one of the scariest I've ever experienced in the game. At least for Boo's Mansion, the boos were somewhat friendly and u knew u weren't alone.
Two things about this song.. the fact that it begins after you come in from the outside, where there is NO background music, just silence: that adds immensely to the creepiness of this song. Another thing, the first time I heard the section from 0:29-0:33 it scared the living shit out of me. This songs solidifies the fact that this game has one of the best soundtracks of any game I've ever played... music is so important to video games.
@toddles8220:29-0:33 scared the heck out of me, too. Not only that, but the silence looming in the castle scared the heck out of me while I was playing the game.
I love this part. It's symbolic of the first segment of the game, except this time, the castle is dark and empty. And this time, you're ready to fight Bowser.
Traveling through the dark, empty castle was scarier and more exciting than Bowser himself, and this music only increased that feeling.
If Luigi didn't escape Peach's Castle before Bowser lifted her castle, Would anyone know what Bowser would have done if he found Luigi inside her castle?
Yeah. When I first played that awsome game and heard the music I thought I was not going to not make it... I had the suspision that Bowser had 99 or 100 HP! I can't spell...
Me, too. I did like the music, yet it was somewhat disturbing at the same time, especially when you hear the keening tune at 0:29-0:33. This music, overall, has some relevance to the actual Bowser theme in Paper Mario.
This song actually made me fired up when I was a kid! I wanted to defeat the Bowser!

@Komanekin The Toad was like, "No, it's too dangerous out there." and jumps back into the closet. I lol'ed at that. XD
randomyoshi 8 months ago
@randomyoshi or when he says, no one here!! just some clothes! or something like that.. i loved this game's sense of humor

It reminds me a bit of the Ripple Star well from Kirby 64. Another very creepy Nintendo stage.

@DarthMohawk1 I noticed that. No one else has mentioned it until now.
randomyoshi 8 months ago
@DarthMohawk1 More like "King of the Koopas" uses the same leitmotif. Which makes sense, since it's yet another Bowser related theme.

Imagine a 6-7 year old kid who is scared of the dark playing this game when he shows up here.
That was me.

@08chinup You think so too? Looks like I'm not the only one to say that a creepy castle with nothing in it is scarier than a haunted mansion.

Can you try to upload this without the sound effects at the beginning?
matthespeedstar 2 years ago
Indeed. Which is scarier?
A. Bowser
B. The silence looming around in the empty castle.
My answer is B.
randomyoshi 2 years ago 3
lol maybe it's role as music was to build suspense for the player prior to confronting the Koopa King.
