You know what I realized... these people from other countries, they need to realize the difference between facts and ignorance. Every time the U.S. makes the best of something (most likely because they had the technology 30 yrs before any other country, and still do) they come around trolling "it's R a parce of sit, ruSovian indano jut mooch batter". That is ignorance my friends. The U.S. INVENTED the freakin airplane 100 years ago. We're gonna be more advanced. Stop being jealous.
@TheWhynaut I'm sorry, but it's far too tempting to poke a hole in your argument. *Ahem* If you had the technology 30 years before any other country, how did the Russians get to space first? Why was the first fighter plane German? How did the British build a VTOL jet when the Russians and the US failed over and over again. And how did Britain and Germany develop jet planes before the US?
Are we the ones who need to realize the difference between facts and ignorance?
@ChumbaWumbaStudios I hate that "the Russians made it to space first" crap. The U.S. were the first ones to successfully land, and set foot, on the moon. I'd call that a bigger achievment than shooting a projectile with a man in it into orbit around the Earth, which is all controlled by natural gravity. The F35 is going to put the AV-8B out of date, we invented the first airplane (maybe not the first jet powered), but if there was no first, there would be no jet. We made the jet work best of any
@TheWhynaut Do you know the immense amount of maths and science involved to put a rocket into space and keep it there? When the Russians did it first, NASA tweeked their science and applied it to Saturn V to get to the moon.
I admit, yes the F35 will outdate the Harrier, but if our government hadn't cut the budget, we'd have a much better VTOL jet by now, in addition with the TSR-2.
And if the US hadn't built the first plane I'm pretty sure someone else would have done it later, probably Germany
Totally agree.... and you know why the US and Russia fail at the original VTOL aircraft... because they were both focussed on power (as usual) trying to use twin engines which they could never get perfectly in sync... hence instability.
You need to do a bit of research before you make grandihose claims. The US didn't invent the aircraft. They were the first to attain "sustained powered flight".
The first recorded flights (gliding) were by Sir George Caykey of England and Otto Lilienthal of Germany in the 18th century.
Leonardo Da Vinci invented the Airplane in the 14th/15th Century. He may not have actually made it at the time but it has since been made to faithfully represent his design... AND IT WORKED.
I heard this bird coming down from 125000 to 95000 feet in an emergency overhead texas gliding from Dallas to El Paso.SR 71 was a lot faster than3.o Mach.
we will never know the true AGL of this aircraft or the new ones that have replaced it that fly our skies right now! that we still don't even know what they r called
@jrockmk8 The flight manual for the SR-71 is declassified. You can find it online. And we no longer use spy planes like this or the U-2. We have satellites for that now.
@megageraldb ......On 25 July 1973, A. Fedotov reached 35,230m with 1,000 kg payload, and 36,240 m with no load (an absolute world record)....like 115.000 ft if U want the math
@megageraldb if U didnt care U wouldnt mind to answer...BABY CRY XD....vids are no competition couse I like SR71 but facts and ignorance are another thing
Though the SR71 is very good I think you will find the English Electric Lightening holds the record for altitude gain over time and highest altitude gained in a zoom climb. As far as conventional engined air craft goes. The SR 71 only gets to its high speed in level flight due to the airo spike combined engine system. The spike part being a copy from the British speed of sound project the data of which was copied in a UK US double cross data exchange were the yanks failed to come through on.
@leblancguillaume Are they really still classified? The SR71 is out of service now, and I thought it's ceiling and speed were know because it holds the records for a fixed wing jet powered craft.
the CoD series, although terrific, is not even close to realistic warfare. I served in the US Army for 18 years and I have seen real combat, and I have to say, videogames dont even come close to being realisitic. The SR-71 shown in Call of Duty Black Ops does not portray how an actual take off would occur. The pilots wouldn't just salute the mechanics and walk on board. There is much preparation in the handlers of the fastest, hig
@Bowlinking The operating manual did not go beyond mach 3.6 or 90,000ft. It was limited in speed by temperatures. Above mach 3.6 the temps woud start to destroy sysems on the aircraft. Alt and speed info as well as some other info is no longer classified.
@sonic1891 8 kills required LOL joke. I know why it was made! To spy on the RUssians and see what they were buliding. It was attempted to be shot down thousands of times. All failed.
@MrVictorPrez94 It was, but soon after the first missions, it was passed over to USAF. The reason was that if a CIA Blackbird pilot or RCO were captured, they could be regarded as spyes and therefore executed. On the other hand, if the captured Blackbird crew was working under command of USAF they were technicaly military pilots, so they would be held as prisoners.
I love the Blackbird but it's not the highest flying jet aircraft. The record belongs to a Russian pilot .The highest current world absolute general aviation altitude record -General Aviation World Records- achieved by a manned air-breathing jet propelled aircraft is 37,650 meters (123,523 feet) set by Alexandr Fedotov, in a Mikoyan Gurevitch E-266M (MiG-25M), on 31 August 1977.
@Winderon3 That record was achieved with a zoom climb, not level altitude flight. To get 123000ft the MIG-25 had to be flown as fast as possible then initiate a "zoom" to a vertical climb where the engines flamed out at their max operating altitude and the plane coasted to the peak altitude by its momentum alone. The SR-71 did 80000ft routinely in level flight with no zooming and engines still running...
@DISPENSER4HIRE Meh, are you aware of it's problems? Example: when they had flown it for the first time, the airplane couldn't be refueled fully again on the ground, as the gas would just leak out through the tanks
@PwNeRTheReal Or you mean the worst 60$ iv'e ever spent? Yea, that too.. Go out and read a book and tell me that black ops and real life are two completely different things.
This plane flew across the US from California to Washington DC in 1 hour and 4 minutes.... Now tell me? It did not land once besides its final arrival... It was refueled in air and this plane was used as a Spy plane with a camera (recorder) that was as strong as a satellite.
BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS BLACK OPS .. uh oh, i insulted the people who are seriously dedicated to sounding better then everybody else by not mentioning a video game. both of the top comments were made by idiots, what the fuck difference does it make? are they trying to sound more "adult" or some bullshit?
@mattymanten It still is, only because it's totally unnecessary to build something "better". Satellites can accomplish 80% of what the Blackbird could, and other spy planes could accomplish another 10% or so... The cost-benefit of having a plane like this was just way off the mark, leaving only the "cool factor". This is why these are all decommissioned, and no one has bothered to build something faster and higher-flying. It's just not needed. If we "wanted to", though, it could be done.
@allMTN Actually nothing can do what it does. Many did not want to see it decommissioned. The airforce wanted it decommissioned almost from the start. Politics is the reason.
@sonex424 The SR-71 was awesome, but honestly not needed for the modern warfare climate. The strategic advantages that it provides over other available reconnaissance assets are minuscule, but the added cost is substantial, so it was an easy decision to kill the program. I was an Imagery Analyst with the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan, and have worked with literally every type of imagery. Don't get me wrong, I hate that it's gone, but it really was just a Cold War hero.
this plane has to be constantly fueled while it is on the ground because the way it is built means it has to allow the parts to expand on heating up. so if it was all one peice closly fitted together, it would break when in flight. its quite clever XD
it was originally supposed to be called the rs-71 but when johnson announced it to the public he made a mistake and called it the sr-71 so instead of manning up and admitting his mistake he ordered skunk works of lockheed to spend millions of dollars renaming every blueprint sr-71

If this plane was made in the 60s....I wonder what the hell they are building now?
DangerousMuzic 10 months ago
it was originally supposed to be called the rs-71 but when johnson announced it to the public he made a mistake and called it the sr-71 so instead of manning up and admitting his mistake he ordered skunk works of lockheed to spend millions of dollars renaming every blueprint sr-71
