It bugs me to see you say it's not dolby digital, you assume it has only left and right audio outputs. But you may as well assume it's not HD since it doesn't have an HDMI output. Those signals are processed from your tv, this box does tune them and lets your set process them. If you don't believe me, switch it out with a cheap sdtv converter and watch your dolby and HD quit working.
@doboy156 Since I made myself the responder of questions on this video...
Yes, they do work on HD TVs, but only outputs in standard def, so it won't be hd quality. Most HD TVs have built in digital tuners, so you would probably want to use that if possible.
I have 4 of these, and have loved them, the main one is holding up very well. Also of the 4 that I've used, it has the best menus, and picks up channels the best.
Thank you for this review. I won my DTX 9950 on ebay, to send to my daughter 700 miles away. It was only $20.50 altogether. A lot of bad reviews out there. But I believe yours more. Thanks for the service.
Once you have programed the remote to turn your television on and off. The button you press to switch modes is the little one next to the power button on the left.
Thanks, I'm going to pick this up the 9950 from Radio Shack right now. I've heard of a lot of problems with this box overheating though. Did your box get really hot?
@Nokorola wow, I posted that comment 11 months ago, what were you doing that time that you couldn't respond for such a long time? I bought one of these, but I don't use it since I dont really watch TV anymore
I dont have the funds to purchase another converter box on a substitute teachers pay. But I can sumarise what I have found out about it online; it seems that this converter box has a weak tuner but it does have analog pass through. The guide feature only displays the next hours programing and it has a cheap build quality, the plastic housing may rub some internal parts making them wear prematurely. I would say that if you live in a good signal area it would be a good alternative to this one.
All of the video converters process the same quality of video, and output it to a similar quality analog signal. The differences between them are not that they produce bad pictures its the ability to receive quality signal. The digital stream is more sensitive to the incoming signal so it produces the better quality picture due to the fact that it recognizes more of the signal.
looks like the db2,db4,db8,channelmaster cm4221,etc,are the best antennas for dtv ota.high ratings all over the web.make one yourself plans here ar youtube.
the rca dta800 was no good? i just bought the dtx9950 at rs for 59.99 and was thinking of getting the rca at walmart at 49.87and save 10.00.the ds worked great for awhile picked up a bunch of channels thwn around midnight only received 1 channel! i've tried the zenith and magnavox and they were poor also.the ds seems to be the best, but are these things hit and miss? i am using an indoor bowtie antenna,do i need to get an outdoor antenna?
I used the RCA dta800 in a low signal strength area and it received no channels and was built poorly. The Digital Stream received 10 of the possible 12, so thats why I recommend it. As for your failure, from what I have seen and read they are hit and miss... I have no idea why though. My recommendation is to take the DS back for an exchange if it is at all possible. Is your antenna powered or passive? If it is passive purchase a powered one, see if that does the trick, it did for me.

This box works great-it gives new life to old (1990's and newer) tv's, and it's so small you hardly even notice it.

Also, the EPG will give you as much program data as is available, on my one local channel they fill it out for 24 hours in advance.

Thanks for the vid!
I was wondering, do i need the digital stream remote for the set up?
I am thinking of buying a used digital stream converter box on craigslist but the one I am looking at does not come with the remote..
or can I just use any remote other than the digital stream one?
Thanks!

Hello, Could you tell me if this device's got the SAP function? Thank you!

@tuzania Yes, if your local channel supplies SAP, there is an "audio" function to access it.

this converterbox can be support on a tv cable?
insulto41 2 years ago
Are you asking if this box would be supported by a separate cable box? or
Does this box decode open cable signals as well as DTV?
You have to make your question more apparent for me to provide an answer.

@ValisFan2 I've never had any problems with the main one at my house which we've had since late 2008.

What's the difference between the 9900 and 9950 ?
spearmintmonkey 2 years ago
@spearmintmonkey The 9950 allows analog pass-through to allow you to access any low power analog channels in your area.

Coaxial is a digital interface, and the Dolby Digital is available through that.

How does the picture quality compare to the RCA and other converters? In standard definition.
