  • @AutoTerminator True, I am aware of that. My point is that those systems were designed to learn those things, and with a specialized system and a lot of accurate digital memory, some systems learn and operate very well but their ability is too limited by design and they will not be able to become intelligent. The topology of these systems is too high level and the logic is too quantized and predefined. If you want to create AI then this is really not the way to do it. Wrong building blocks, imo

    Spot on! These robots were programmed to learn. Anything outside of their code and they will not respond to it. It surely gives the illusion that is is learning like a toddler would, but it is nowhere near the actual thing. It's so basic. I can't think of a better excuse for the comments below me than the fact that they lack basic understanding withing the robotic field.

Our scientists still towards new advancements and technologies. Christians just have differing opinions on the creation of our universe, and there have, in fact, been Christian scientists who have made great advancements in medical science. The people you detail, aren't holding science back, they just lack opinion/initiative.

Scientists will always be a select few, who are passionate and intelligent about their science. It will always be a small group but what has to be said is that IT WILL ALWAYS EXIST, we will never "Run out of scientists" because everybody wanted to watch a hockey game. Nor will all our scientists succumb to laziness. It's a passion to them, just as gaming is to me.

  • @dinmagic lol my friend, we used to think it would be impossible to go to the moon. And, we're not trying to SIMULATE it. to get the real thing, you have to copy the real thing. computers and the human mind are much more similar than you think. just another limit to break. hurhur.

  • I see where you are trying to get, but from what I've been taught and from personal experience, it is impossible to give a computer actual emotion, that is, with today's current methods. Computers do nothing more than follow instructions on their coding and no other factor plays any role whatsoever. A HUGE leap, a method entirely different would be needed to create a synthetic brain that mimics our own brain at it's fullest. Even so, both will never be in the same branch.

  • @dinmagic Exactly what I'm saying. Coming up with something new that models our own brain. Of course, it will take a lot of work, but how much work did it take to create, say, the lightbulb? the first airplane? the first space shuttle? it's just a matter of time.

    Yes, but achieving that will be far bigger than a lightbulb, far bigger than the airplane and much, much bigger than landing on the moon or even building a base on the surface of the sun. I just can't compare any past achievements to one another. I find it impossible for a machine to even have something remotely close to anything that's uniquely human (or life for that matter) without having any biological assistance.

  • @dinmagic think back about only 200 years ago. televison, for example, would be inconceivable, let alone people think it possible. and yes, re-creating consciousness probebly will be the biggest challenge ever for humans, but we like trying to break limits. And, robots can already think and learn exactly the way humans do, as you can see in the above video, and that's more than remotely close to something that humans have, without any organic parts.

Computers do exactly what programmers tell them to; nothing more, nothing less. Take an introductory course, learn database concepts, then come back and tell me that this robot is duplicating the learning ability of humans.

  • this seems a bit too pre programmed and mechanical. this is just a thought. i would expect the learning abilities of the system to be very limited built on this idea. human thought is more abstract than this. we're pattern matchers. our ability to interpret visuals, sound relate sensory input stems from a more general basic pattern matching ability. i don't expect programming such specific behaviour will yield great learning ability... like i said tho.. just a thought.

  • @danielsanichiban But computers can now learn from example. for example, Watson, the computer built by IBM and beat the human champions on Jeapordy, learns how to recognize alphebetical letters by seeing a few different examples of a leter in different fonts. it only takes a few examples for the computer to understand. same with ASIMO, the most advanced robot we have today. And, this stuff is advancing extremely fast.

And yes, computers have been programmed to respond to outside inputs in ways that where not specifically programmed. Look up neural networks and generic/evolutionary algorithms.

But the real trick is to allow it to learn and evolve by itself, so that it won't become obselete once a new fact is figured out. Adaptation without input from the coder is ideal, self improving code. Look at some neural networking stuff and you will see what i mean.
