I actually took a tour of the D.C. FBI building in the mid 80's they put on a shooting demo down in the basement. They where developing the 10mm at that time, we started asking some questions after the demo, the agent told us the reason they decided against the 10mm was because it was to much recoil for the female agents. So yeah , Gunblast , you where spot on.
Still one of my favorites to shoot , its not made for sissies.Clint Eastwood did a movie with the 10mm called "The Rookie".
Very interesting and the Lone Wolfe barrel was especially neat. Muzzle jump was definitely less and quicker back on target. Very good shooting by the way as usual. I have shot 454 Casull in a Ruger. I found it easier to shoot than a derringer in 45 acp. I suspect a Glock with the Lone Wolf would be a good combination for this round based on your evidence.
Wow looks like a really snappy cartridge; I like the more compact guns, but from what I saw that 6" barrel with the muzzle break does a great job at lowering recoil.
Very cool, would probably get one if I had the cash but, I think for me a .40 would be more economical, easier to shoot, and practical since ammo is widely available & fairly cheap.
Great vid; I now know what handgun I would carry on a trip to Alaska!
I have all the S&W models except 1046. I agree, there is no reason to carry the 10mm if it is not full power loads, that is what it is for. Look forward to the DW RZ-10 come backs or throw backs. The lone wolf is awesome at the speed you shot it. Amazing!
Very nice video Jeff. I don't disagree with your comment on full house loads of 10mm for field use. I do tend to prefer the lighter loads for range days simply because I can go through 3 to 4x as many rounds before my wrist tells me that it's time to pack it up. You might want to give Underwood Ammo a try as well. They make some very nice full house loads.
This is the first time I have seen this caliber. I was wondering first if any guns on the market now that are reliable shoot this caliber and does this ammo sell on the market or does it have to be reloaded? Either way where can I buy the equipment/ammo for this caliber? Thanks!
Glock makes a couple of very good 10mm pistols. Very reliable. Also, the Smith & Wesson can be found on the used market. Ammo can be bought from Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, Hornady, CCI, and a couple of others. Excellent cartridge.
@fishblade2 Glock mays two 10mm auto pistols. The Glock 20 and 29. Both are kick ass. Ammo is not as readily available at your local store but if available online lot of places. Way more powerful than any other Glock made.
Xmas is coming and thanks to this video and a few others like it I'm going to buy a new Glock 29 instead of the 30 that I had planned on getting. One question, does anyone have thoughts on finding loads for 10mm because most of the time I've noticed local sporting good stores and many gun shops do not stock 10mm. I also do not reload but perhaps I need to get a single stage press and solve it that way. Any thoughts people? Thanks.
I'm not trying to tell you what to do or anything, but based on my own personal experience, I think you'd shoot and handle the recoil much better if you didn't put your finger on the trigger guard. I did that when I first started shooting, and I would pull shots and I noticed quite a bit of recoil. When I changed to a standard grip, I barely had any noticeable recoil, and I shot infinitely better. Just a suggestion.
I have several .40 cal pistols. I was looking for something a bit bigger like the glock 21. The only reason I don't get the glock 20 is the availablity of the 10 mm cartridges due to the fact I reload most of my ammo. Great videos.
SF = short frame, shorter from backstrap to trigger still double stack mag, SL = slim line, single stack mag 45acp. Love your videos and have been using info from your wep page for years!!! Thanks!!!!!
hey Jeff I'm really looking into the 29sf as a everyday carry ccw pistol, I like the feel in my hands, but my question to you is ammo based I was looking into the double tap "equalizer" ammo, what are your thoughts on that load for a daily carry. With that load do you think it might be better if i use a ported barrel, or maybe a threaded barrel and just throw on a compensator?
I was not aware that the Glock 20 was out in SF model. I had picked up a Glock 10 mm years ago and felt the grip was too big for me to control the gun well.
I will go back and take another look at the SF model
i like how you said smaller weaker agents, i mean honestly if you cant handle a near magnum power level handgun then why are you carrying one in the first place? am i being too harsh? not to brag but im only 5'8" tall and i have medium sized hands but i can handle hot hand load .44 though a 2.5" barrel Ruger Alaskan, and they are saying that FBI agents couldnt handle a 10mm effectively to warrant it being the official FBI sidearm, gtfo here!
@timsgta I think he was being PC and did not want to be quoted as saying female agents. They went to the Sig and everyone is happy. The Coast Guard (having both male and female LEO's) went to the SIG as well. Never shot it, probably never will.
To rockolutheran, this cartridge is pretty tame in recoil and noise for he performance you get. My Glock 29 does incorporate a double spring guide rod system which I think helps. I do not recommend but I have shot it without hearing protection without adverse affects.
Thank you for the informative video. I have been a big fan of the 10mm cartridge for many years and I am happy to see people open their eyes to what is a truly great cartridge. For my Glock 29, I have a .40 S&W conversion barrel for the best of both worlds. I carry this pistol for hiking & hunting.
Hey Jeff, You forgot to mention where it all started...with Mr. Cooper, the CZ-75 which morphed into the Bren Ten, and then when Colt stepped in and made the gen 1 Delta Elite. Great video though, I always get the truth about all these weapons from you. Keep up the great videos.
wait, a huge 10mm s&w with whopping 220 grain bullets loaded in that mag makes that quiet little pop? could someone tell me if its the camera or if the forest absorbes the sound?
Hey Jeff awesome video sir. I was wondering if the long slide ever gave you any complications while shooting it? I heard from someone that it tends to jam a lot. I am in the market for a Glock 20. I currently own a Glock 17, but I am not satisfied with the ballistics.
@fieldx200 I've put exactly 2550 rounds of full-house 10mm through my G20 and had one problem, it failed to extract once when I was shooting left-handed and limp wristed. Awesome pistol.
The long-slide is mostly for hunting, in which case you're likely only taking 2-3 shots anyway. With a good load you shouldn't have any cycling problems.
Likewise, I suggest a $100 Lone Wolf drop-in .40S&W barrel for relatively inexpensive practice.
@fieldx200 Yeah man, get it and load up w/ DoubleTap, Buffalo Bore, or Georgia Arms. I particularly like the 135gr Nosler JHP, 180gr bonded JHP, and 200gr FMJ-FN ball. I shot a box of the 230? gr hardcast lead through the Glock barrel, many people say you can't or shouldn't; well it was dirty and required a bit more time to properly clean but I didn't have any problems.
You won't be disappointed.. nearly .44 Mag power with 9mm capacity. Spend the extra few bucks for factory Triji sights.
papa likes. I got the gen 2 .40, before I knew the evolution of that round. I hunt deer with it out to around 35-40 yards but would really like to convince my wife to let me spend a weeks pay on another gun. And hope she don't shoot me with it.
How much does the long slide cost for that 10mm, and do you think it would I should get one for my .40 that I hunt with?
WoW..AS usual great video..You sir are a great shot and thank you for the informative videos on the great weapons you choose to demonstrate..Well there went 100 bucks on those 50 rounds you shot,.LOL.Thats the only reason I shoot a glock 22 with a 9mm conversion barrel to keep costs down on the ammo..
Love the videos you put up sir. Some of the best gun reviews on youtube. You and kickok45. I always enjoy an informative and well done gun review. Keep up the good work.
@Gunblastdotcom Probably jealous of the beard, as he/she should be. If my wife would let me, that's exactly what I would do with my beard. Great video too! I'm going to be in the market for purchasing a 10mm in the not so distant future and this video was very informative to me.
"I also tested velocities of the Lone Wolf conversion with the compensator attached. I was expecting no noticeable difference in velocities, but to my surprise, the compensator showed a velocity gain with almost every load tested."
See the referenced review for more info, including a chart showing velocities with/without comp.
Sick of people saying certain calibers are weak. Make a video of yourself getting shot with one of those " weaker" rounds and prove how weak they are. Fact if most morons know that won't happen. They just are idiots.
hahaha hard to see black targets hahaha you racist...naw im just playing i know what you ment i love the glock 20 just bought it and just bought one and the recoil is not bad at all it reminds me of the glock 21 but more versitale because i can use it when hunting...you can also buy from lone wolf a 40 caliaber barrel and a 45 barrel so it is like having 3 guns in one
I've been debating whether I should get a Glock 20 or an FN45 USG. I think you may have tipped my thinking in favor of the Glock. Might as well have a round that is hot and heavy, as opposed to just heavy. Thanks for another great review, Jeff.
i got myself a Glock model 20 a few years back and i think it's a great gun and the 10mm has become my favorite self defense cartridge and one of my favorite handgun cartridges period. i want to get a longer barrel for my Glock sometime and i also want to get a Colt 1911 in 10 mm.
What size spring were you uising for the 135 grn DT loads just a factory 17lb? I just got my Long Slide from LWD and have the 22lb ISMI spring installed.
@Gunblastdotcom does the heavier spring have an advantage like reduced recoil or less risk of a missfire? I've handled glocks before but im new to glocks and other automatic handguns. I know the 10mm has alot of recoil, but i want one as a concealed carry gun, because i live in an area where theres both gang violence and dangerous animals. there are black bears and wild boars around where i live, and i dont think a 9mm is going to be a bear stopper like the 10mm could be.
@Gunblastdotcom okay, cause I'm looking into a glock 20 with a similar slide/barrel set up as yours, but I'm getting the 6.61" barrel, which will mean with the hottest magnum loads (a 165gr jhp on 11.0gr of powder with a large pistol magnum primer) the velocity could be over 1600fps, and with some, nearly 1700fps, and that'd give it around 1,000ft/lbs of energy. I at first was looking into a 9mm or a .357 sig, but neither would stop a 500 pound bear.
357sig with the right bullet might actually surprise you. If a 357sig isn't good enough, a 10mm isn't much better.
Then again I'd prefer to have the 10mm over a 357 magnum, and I'd rather have a 454 if I thought my day might involve a 500 pound bear. 10mm makes for a great gun to carry when you're in a bad part of town though.
I went with the compensated glock 20, and I've never been happier. It's more comfortable shooting than a G22, because there seems to be less snap.
@skyhop I know both are extremely powerful and both can top 700ft/lbs easily, but I'd think a heavier, larger caliber bullet at the same speed would be more effective at making sure that even the most aggressive bear wont be able to attack me

Thanks for all the great reviews. I was just wondering why you mentioned Corbon as full power? The Corbon 135gr and 155gr 10mm velocities seem to be about the same for the 40... although I have a ball with the 10mm 135 Corbon loads. Winchester ST's are snappier on the Kimber but easy on the 1006 (more recoil than with Corbons). Also, any experience on DT and BB's actual velocities versus claimed? Some 10mm YT posters say they're getting a good 100-200fps less than advertised.
it has been my experience that the Colt Delta Elite is very popular and i noticed you didnt shoot one. do you have an opinion on that pistol? also, my dad works in law enforcement and he almost bought a DE in the late 80s when he began work. he ended up with a colt series 80 1911. it ended up that they decided the 10mm was over penetration, it would go through an average person, hitting people behind him should he be unprotected, thus, the .40 was born. what do you think of using it for defense?
The 10mm is a very good defensive weapon. The Colt Delta is a good 10mm, but there are better choices, especially if shooting the high performance ammo available. With the original full-power Norma load, the Delta Elite did not hold up well.
Thanks for the excellent review...I have a couple 10MM's myself, the Glock20 and an EAA Witness (Steel) as a smaller carry gun.
I wholeheartedly agree with you that the recoil is highly overstated on these. I load the 155 Gr. hornady's up about as far as i can go, and they are still easy to control, even in a fairly rapid firing mode.
This is an excellent all around cartridge for hunting or protection, or whatever.
My 21 year old, 115lb girlfriend shoots 10mm JUST FINE out of my G29SF all day, FMJ target or carry ammo. So any man who says it's too much recoil.....gimme a break, nancy.
I very nearly bought a 10mm in 1991. There was a 1911 style longslide made at that time called the Javelina. Obviously made to shoot hawgs, but the finish left a little to be desired, and not long after that the Bren10 breakdowns started happening, so I neve bought one. I always liked the concept. I reckoned it to a cut down .44 automag. Another gun I wish I owned......
Good overview of the 10mm...I personally don't know much about 'em, and like ya said, I would have guessed recoil would have been worse than what it is.
That compensator definitely did it's job well - that was pretty damn impressive.
Howdy again brother...I'm glad to see this review on the 10mm because in theory it's always been one of my favorite rounds in theory. Unfortunately I've never been able to shoot one and I've always gotten mixed reviews in terms of the ammo being snappy or significantly worse than a .45.
I can fire off 70 .45 ACP 230 hardballs off in 30 minutes and my wrist would only get sore if I accidentally limpwristed. I use to have bad tendonitis, do you think 10mm would cause trouble?
@IcabodCrane Tendonitis in the elbow? I have that and shoot .357 and 10mm. I do pretty well with it if I concentrate on shooting right. I usually shoot about 50-75 each time out.
In the wrists, but it's not as bad as it use to be. I figure it's like you said though about concentrating because even a .45 snaps my wrist a little if I get too comfortable and let my wrist go limp LOL. Thanks for the reply :D
@IcabodCrane Hopefully they have exercises you can do to help with that. Also know 10mm ammo is from way watered down .40 to stuff that exceed .357 Magnum. Get some PRVI 10mm as it doesn't have alot of pop.
Oh I'm not too worried about it anymore after asking a few people, and my tendonitis is mostly gone now...I was just hoping for some information particularly on the sharpness of the recoil, and if the 135 grain high-vels have the same sort've recoil as the original 180 Normas (which I seriously doubt).
@IcabodCrane If you get the SwampFox 135's or any load for that matter yes. They are the hottest 10mm out there bar none! When I shot them at the range it was night and day pop. Buffalo Bore and DoubleTap are also pretty darn hot but not SwampFox and I believe all of them exceed the original Norma. I shot some Underwood ammo the other day for for budget pop it is hard to beat. Better than the BVAC which is actually the cheapest plinking ammo out there.
Hmm this vid made no mention of the most famous 10mm of all, the BREN TEN! (Think Miami Vice and Don Johnson.) :P Also, I would love to get my hands on a 10mm MP5 some day. (Legally, of course.) Either way, great video though! :D
Jeff, fabulous overview of the 10mm and the auto pistols chambered for it. I'm curious why the FBI didn't just go back to the .45 ACP, but perhaps recoil would be a drawback as well. I'd have a hard time choosing a 10mm from those you've reviewed...wish ammo availability and selection were better, and prices were more in line with .45 ACP, .357/.38, and 9mm. Great review, love the comparison angle you've taken on this.
The FBI choosing the 10mm was the result of their dismal experience with the 9mm in the notorious Miami shootout. The Bureau wanted better penetration than they had with the 9 against hard targets and body armor, and the 45 ACP does not offer that. I think they should have stayed with the 10mm, or went back to the 357 magnum.
@Gunblastdotcom If you read the entire "1986 Miami Shootout" on Wikipedia, you will see that the 9mm had little to do with what happened. The 2 bad guys were ex-military men; as a result they were better marksmen than the FBI guys on that day. One agent was killed with a single headshot and the other with 2 shots to the head. Most of the "weak" 9mm rounds either missed the intended targets completely or hit the bad guys in the arms or legs. Oh, and the bad guys had a Ruger mini 14 .223.
@retthok The problem with the 9mm rounds at the time is that they failed in certain shots to penetrate enough tissue to reach vital organs and cause enough damage to end the fight. After the shootout the FBI adopted a penetration minimum of 12 inches and stated that 18 inches was optimal. Most manufactures of 9mm now offer rounds that meet and surpass this requirement, however they still offer munitions that do not. Caveat Emptor.
@Gunblastdotcom that makes sense. Windshields, body armor, etc. I guess they had a lot of requirements that needed to be met--recoil and control being among them--so they compromised with the .40 S&W.
@HOD0R Really? .45 ACP offered nothing over the 9mm? I'm not sure I buy that the 9mm was superior to the .45 ACP. Also, I thought the FBI was actually better off with the old .357/.38 Special in the revolver platform than the 9mm in the S&W automatics they'd adopted. For example, the reports I've seen put forward that Agent McNeill, with a snub nosed 2" S&W M-19, disabled Matix with two shots using the standard .38 +P FBI load. Dove's "fatal" 9mm shot may have svd his life if he had a 45 acp.
@HOD0R I'll have to order the abstract and read it. I could only find a summary, and I'd love to see what additional research has been done since 1987.
@HOD0R Does the abstract you cite below discuss the stopping power of .38 +P ammo or the .357 magnum? I would think the .357 magnum especially would prove as good as the 10mm. I wouldn't call drawing conclusions from the .38 or .357 "isolated" given their history and usage. I used that example because it meshed with what I've read about the effectiveness of the .357/.38+P. Also, wasn't this research undertaken precicely because of this one shooting incident?
@Optimatorz yah 45's are always better than 9mms but the difference is actually very minimal in terms of damage on target. Something like the 10mm would be able to create a larger wound cavity due to it spreading the tissue at super-sonic speed as it passes into the body, causing the flesh to snap and rip past the speed of sound generates small sonic booms in the tissue. This is why rifles are so effective compared to handguns. I don't see why they went back down to 40 instead of 45 frankly.
Wow a 10mm video! I so wanted a 1006 and love being able to see one run. In the end I picked up an EAA Witness Elite Match that has the same heft, rail and lifetime warranty. I was converned with getting parts for the 1006 and this one was still $200 cheaper brand new.
Unlike the typical Gunblast video, in which I only speak about one weapon, this video involved several different weapons and a conversion unit. I just had a lot more to discuss. I needed a nap!
The 10mm's an awesome cartridge, but for LE, I figure it's kind of overkill - not so much because of the recoil/muzzle flash but rather due to how much it penetrates. Heard too many stories of officers shooting a BG and having their round(s) blow right through and kill a bystander or even another officer ... and that's just with 9mm. Given, gun safety rules say to be sure of what's behind your target, but still ... 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP just seem more practical (to me) for LE and CCW use.
Hey Jeff,
Any word on a 10mm carbine on the market or soon to be on the market?
Thanks

I was not aware that the Glock 20 was out in SF model. I had picked up a Glock 10 mm years ago and felt the grip was too big for me to control the gun well.
I will go back and take another look at the SF model

i like how you said smaller weaker agents, i mean honestly if you cant handle a near magnum power level handgun then why are you carrying one in the first place? am i being too harsh? not to brag but im only 5'8" tall and i have medium sized hands but i can handle hot hand load .44 though a 2.5" barrel Ruger Alaskan, and they are saying that FBI agents couldnt handle a 10mm effectively to warrant it being the official FBI sidearm, gtfo here!
timsgta 3 months ago

Likewise, I suggest a $100 Lone Wolf drop-in .40S&W barrel for relatively inexpensive practice.
silvermediastudio 4 months ago
@silvermediastudio I appreciate the input Silvermedia. Your story is just another reason why I want the G20.
fieldx200 4 months ago

What size spring were you uising for the 135 grn DT loads just a factory 17lb? I just got my Long Slide from LWD and have the 22lb ISMI spring installed.
loneeagle10mm 6 months ago
I was using the 22
Jeff
Gunblastdotcom 6 months ago
@Gunblastdotcom does the heavier spring have an advantage like reduced recoil or less risk of a missfire? I've handled glocks before but im new to glocks and other automatic handguns. I know the 10mm has alot of recoil, but i want one as a concealed carry gun, because i live in an area where theres both gang violence and dangerous animals. there are black bears and wild boars around where i live, and i dont think a 9mm is going to be a bear stopper like the 10mm could be.
drewnickel 6 months ago
The heavier spring makes it run better with high-performance ammo, siuch as Buffalo Bore and Double-Tap.
Jeff
Gunblastdotcom 6 months ago
@Gunblastdotcom okay, cause I'm looking into a glock 20 with a similar slide/barrel set up as yours, but I'm getting the 6.61" barrel, which will mean with the hottest magnum loads (a 165gr jhp on 11.0gr of powder with a large pistol magnum primer) the velocity could be over 1600fps, and with some, nearly 1700fps, and that'd give it around 1,000ft/lbs of energy. I at first was looking into a 9mm or a .357 sig, but neither would stop a 500 pound bear.
drewnickel 6 months ago
@drewnickel
It's more comfortable shooting than a G22, because there seems to be less snap.
skyhop 6 months ago

Some 10mm YT posters say they're getting a good 100-200fps less than advertised.

it has been my experience that the Colt Delta Elite is very popular and i noticed you didnt shoot one. do you have an opinion on that pistol? also, my dad works in law enforcement and he almost bought a DE in the late 80s when he began work. he ended up with a colt series 80 1911. it ended up that they decided the 10mm was over penetration, it would go through an average person, hitting people behind him should he be unprotected, thus, the .40 was born. what do you think of using it for defense?
bevofan123 9 months ago

AA550cord 10 months ago
Good overview of the 10mm...I personally don't know much about 'em, and like ya said, I would have guessed recoil would have been worse than what it is.

@gunblastdotcom
IcabodCrane 10 months ago
@IcabodCrane Tendonitis in the elbow? I have that and shoot .357 and 10mm. I do pretty well with it if I concentrate on shooting right. I usually shoot about 50-75 each time out.
intercooler2 10 months ago
@intercooler2
In the wrists, but it's not as bad as it use to be. I figure it's like you said though about concentrating because even a .45 snaps my wrist a little if I get too comfortable and let my wrist go limp LOL. Thanks for the reply :D
IcabodCrane 10 months ago
@IcabodCrane Hopefully they have exercises you can do to help with that. Also know 10mm ammo is from way watered down .40 to stuff that exceed .357 Magnum. Get some PRVI 10mm as it doesn't have alot of pop.
intercooler2 10 months ago
@intercooler2
IcabodCrane 10 months ago
@IcabodCrane If you get the SwampFox 135's or any load for that matter yes. They are the hottest 10mm out there bar none! When I shot them at the range it was night and day pop. Buffalo Bore and DoubleTap are also pretty darn hot but not SwampFox and I believe all of them exceed the original Norma. I shot some Underwood ammo the other day for for budget pop it is hard to beat. Better than the BVAC which is actually the cheapest plinking ammo out there.
intercooler2 10 months ago
Hmm this vid made no mention of the most famous 10mm of all, the BREN TEN! (Think Miami Vice and Don Johnson.) :P Also, I would love to get my hands on a 10mm MP5 some day. (Legally, of course.) Either way, great video though! :D
TripleZ89 10 months ago
Jeff, fabulous overview of the 10mm and the auto pistols chambered for it. I'm curious why the FBI didn't just go back to the .45 ACP, but perhaps recoil would be a drawback as well. I'd have a hard time choosing a 10mm from those you've reviewed...wish ammo availability and selection were better, and prices were more in line with .45 ACP, .357/.38, and 9mm. Great review, love the comparison angle you've taken on this.
Optimatorz 10 months ago
The FBI choosing the 10mm was the result of their dismal experience with the 9mm in the notorious Miami shootout. The Bureau wanted better penetration than they had with the 9 against hard targets and body armor, and the 45 ACP does not offer that. I think they should have stayed with the 10mm, or went back to the 357 magnum.
Jeff
Gunblastdotcom 10 months ago
@Gunblastdotcom If you read the entire "1986 Miami Shootout" on Wikipedia, you will see that the 9mm had little to do with what happened. The 2 bad guys were ex-military men; as a result they were better marksmen than the FBI guys on that day. One agent was killed with a single headshot and the other with 2 shots to the head. Most of the "weak" 9mm rounds either missed the intended targets completely or hit the bad guys in the arms or legs. Oh, and the bad guys had a Ruger mini 14 .223.
retthok 10 months ago
@retthok The problem with the 9mm rounds at the time is that they failed in certain shots to penetrate enough tissue to reach vital organs and cause enough damage to end the fight. After the shootout the FBI adopted a penetration minimum of 12 inches and stated that 18 inches was optimal. Most manufactures of 9mm now offer rounds that meet and surpass this requirement, however they still offer munitions that do not. Caveat Emptor.
lightningjohnny77 10 months ago
@Gunblastdotcom that makes sense. Windshields, body armor, etc. I guess they had a lot of requirements that needed to be met--recoil and control being among them--so they compromised with the .40 S&W.
Optimatorz 9 months ago
@Optimatorz
Because .45 offered nothing over what they already had. Google "NCJRS Abstract 253695".
HOD0R 9 months ago
Optimatorz 9 months ago
@Optimatorz
Really. They investigated it. Read NCJRS Abstract 253695.
HOD0R 9 months ago
@HOD0R I'll have to order the abstract and read it. I could only find a summary, and I'd love to see what additional research has been done since 1987.
Optimatorz 9 months ago
@Optimatorz
Also there are way too many factors involved to draw conclusions from comparing two isolated shots.
HOD0R 9 months ago
@HOD0R Does the abstract you cite below discuss the stopping power of .38 +P ammo or the .357 magnum? I would think the .357 magnum especially would prove as good as the 10mm. I wouldn't call drawing conclusions from the .38 or .357 "isolated" given their history and usage. I used that example because it meshed with what I've read about the effectiveness of the .357/.38+P. Also, wasn't this research undertaken precicely because of this one shooting incident?
Optimatorz 9 months ago
@Optimatorz
Why don't you just read it? And yes, it was conducted in response to the Miami shootout.
HOD0R 9 months ago
@HOD0R Mayhap I will, partner.
Optimatorz 9 months ago
@Optimatorz yah 45's are always better than 9mms but the difference is actually very minimal in terms of damage on target. Something like the 10mm would be able to create a larger wound cavity due to it spreading the tissue at super-sonic speed as it passes into the body, causing the flesh to snap and rip past the speed of sound generates small sonic booms in the tissue. This is why rifles are so effective compared to handguns. I don't see why they went back down to 40 instead of 45 frankly.

Hey Jeff you should review the Colt Delta :D
TheEvilX338 10 months ago
The 10mm's an awesome cartridge, but for LE, I figure it's kind of overkill - not so much because of the recoil/muzzle flash but rather due to how much it penetrates. Heard too many stories of officers shooting a BG and having their round(s) blow right through and kill a bystander or even another officer ... and that's just with 9mm. Given, gun safety rules say to be sure of what's behind your target, but still ... 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP just seem more practical (to me) for LE and CCW use.
