Interesting, she does get better the more she plays. She has some talent. It does help to have a reminder that the sound quality of the recording is horrendous. One of my new favorite Heifetz quotes, "I'd rather play it before the customers fall asleep." Hahaha, no wonder his tempo was usually brisk. I'm not sure he played at average speed but he sure as hell was always incredibly exciting to listen to.
I love that little scene when Heifetz stopped the pianist, and right after, apologizing to the lady. An apologizing Heifetz is quite rare!
I also liked his comments on the tempo of the music: so dry, direct and serious, and yet so very funny! His accent and choice of words are very nice, by the way and I can't stop a small smile, every time he makes a language mistake.
At 2.38 you hear the Heifetzian tornado take over. The girl is actually a very good violinist. She plays well & is melodic. Unfortunately for her, she is being contrasted on video with Heifetz. & almost anyone would sound bad or mediocre compared with him. Heifetz's playing, everything about it, is stronger than tungsten; bowing, fingering, portamento, intonation-- he is matchless. Heifetz had the ability to make students play better than they ever thought they were capable of playing.
@TheAssasin951 Hmmm.... If it would still be possible I would love to see you stand in front of Mr Heifetz, in a class full of excellent students, and a camera in your face... If you manage to get your violin tuned properly it would be already an achievement. Very easy to judge.
@TheAssasin951 Shut it,you arrogant hack.Everyone of these students were able to study under Heifetz for a reason - because they were way better than you would ever be.All of them were excellent musicians. That's why they undertook these masterclasses - so that they could become even better.
