  • I used to live right on the Canel at 74 Bridge st, Thanks for the memories!

  • We had a great holiday on this canal a few years ago. I do remember though that the natives of Banbury did not all appreciate the boats passing through, and holding up their business. Not that I worried.

  • I remember when I helped out on that lock. That top gate was always harder to open and close lol

  • speed limit on UK narrowboat canals is 5mph ,but who's in a hurry?

  • @patlaws "The maximum speed on narrow canals as 4mph. But if you're making waves or your wash is hitting the bank, you're going too fast -and need to slow down.

  • Just boated through the Welland Canal in Ontario, Canada. Same concept but a whole lot bigger!!

  • Narrowboats have one engine, and the horsepower can average around 43Hp for the bigger boats, of about 50ft.

  • 43 hp is almost massively overpowered. 20 hp is enough to get 8 knots on a river which is about your speedlimit anyway. What a lovely passage through a town; my sister works in Banbury. Good memories.
