  • bought a 2010 evo x sst never have come across this problem

had it for a year now

  • get a manual. that will fix the problem

  • @ExoTiiCz21 I got a different car... that fixed the problem pretty well. Also, I disagree with you since this wasn't actually a transmission problem, but a software problem. I'd go back to the SST in a heartbeat.

  • what happened?

  • @krossF Nobody knows... Not even Mitsubishi. They thought they had fixed the problem, but it happened again. I traded the car in about 9 months ago. It's someone else's problem now.

  • The SST gear box is shit !!! I have had same problems !! Mistubishi don't give a shit either !!

  • @intensekart You should try Subaru.......horrendous company to deal with.

  • thanks for posting. Got the same stuff doing 120mph in Indiana.

I did not understand why everybody was driving soooooo slow but I was in a 50mph construction zone,. OH well. Move out the way

  • thats just a bad code...take off the poles of the batery for 10 minutes and put it back to restart all the computer codes....and the problem is gone....all manual tranyy of this lancer includin cvt tranyy do the same sh##tt

  • My 08 Evo MR transmission failed yesterday with 4 days left on the factory warranty. Dealer said I see mods but we will replace. Not heavily modded so we will take care of it under warranty. Service advisor looked at me and said do you know you had 4 days left, your lucky dude. He asked me did you take it to the track I said no the streets were my track. He said after we swap trannys track this mofo. You don't know what your missing.

  • OMG this exact same thing is happening to mine. Sent it back to Mitsubishi today to sort it as it's only done 90 miles!!! Gutted.

  • @MrSooty1000 Ridiculous. Hit me up if you need a good lawyer to go after Mitsu. Mine did a great job.

  • @rctheil

I love Mitsubishi, but I gotta admit, their quality control has gone down quite a bit.

May be why they are (attempting) to go all electric in the States.

  • @rctheil What did your lawyer do for you I have the same issues and am tired of getting blown off.

  • @geremych We threatened to sue them under the Colorado lemon law, and they replaced the turbo and a few other key parts and resolved it to my satisfaction at the time. Didn't have the problem for months but it came back. That's when I decided to sell the car. If you need attorney info, send me a message. I didn't pay a dime.

  • is there something to do with the cruise mode thing so it keep slipping to prevent over speeding?

  • shud've gotten honda with grade logic and hold control :|

  • this is why i dont like semi-manual.

  • @41ACE Obviously you didn't read my comments. This was not a transmission issue.

  • @rctheil my bad, but still i dont like semi-manual car. not as much fun as stick. its just an opinion. agree or dont agree dont matter, everyone have their own taste. still EVO all the way. :)

  • @41ACE And-clearly-you-dont-realize-how-much-faster-this-transmission-is-than-ANY-manual

  • P1235, MAF, had the same code last week. Problem solved after MAF is cleaned.

Slow down message is due to overheated transmission, can be avoided with a SST cooler kit.

  • Hey the car needs to be tuned with the DTC-Disable Patch which eliminates limp-mode by deleting p1235, p1234, etc......There are many patches available by using Ecuflash for tuning software...Just check out some of my videos to see how I know......

  • @moneyhungry8604 Yeah, it can be done but that's a warranty voiding thing. I tried to keep it stock and let Mitsu fix the problems, but they couldn't. I just traded the car in a few days ago. Glad to be rid of it.

  • @rctheil can we have the VIN number so we do not buy it ? :P

  • @adrianTNT LOL! Not a bad idea, and I don't have the VIN anymore, because that POS is long gone. However, it was already purchased and is unique in that it has a completely aftermarket 100% JL Audio audio system with a Marine (white in color) M4300 JL Audio amplifier.

  • All computer there cause I think the car wouldn't even run if you had a mechanical problem

  • the only reason you beat me after we left Vegas was because i didn't have it in the right gear....and your Evo is faster too! OH!!! And i can't shift for shit!

  • dude im a mecanic and youre got a transmission code you need a transmission!!

  • @tamere86 I'm thinking you may not be a very good mechanic. The problem is completely fixed, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the tranny. Since when does a P1235 have ANYTHING to do with a transmission?

  • @rctheil

    P1235 is the MAF sensor

  • @Xsite88 No... It is "possible MAF" due to overboost. If the MAF picks up incorrect readings, it will cause an overboost. Therefore, the Evo assumes it's the MAF, but Mitsu specifically says P1235 is "POSSIBLE MAF". After replacing the MAF 3 different times, it's not the MAF.

  • @rctheil

I am driving a MR with SST and had the problem also changed the MAF 2 times already. And now after installing Defi Gauges i see at full throttle i get 2.0 bar 29 PSI on stock Turbo :D and than getting the shifting problems of the SST and have to restart car. now will get a remap of car and hope to get fixed the overpeak boost. maybe should install a boost controller.

  • I'm seriously confused about how replacing the turbo and manifold fixed this issue.

  • @fostytou The thoughts among the evo community are that the boost pill had been removed, causing overboost. When they replaced the turbo, they likely replaced all the vacuum lines too, thus replacing the line that was missing the boost pill.

  • @rctheil That makes much more sense.... fail mitsu on that diagnosis. You should get tuned... even a base flash will make your car MUCH more fun!

  • @rctheil If the car was over boosting it would display a very different error to this, ASC or alike. In fact whilst on a RR we have tested the car with over boost to see what would happen. The ECU pulled the injector cycle down to counteract the over boost.

From my view it looks more like a clutch plate issue than anything else. If the clutch was slipping it would also get too hot thus why you were seeing the "slow down" light.

  • @MrCreeky This is 100% NOT a transmission issue. The car goes into LIMP mode once the p1235 code is thrown, which causes the erratic behavior of the transmission. Quick off and back on makes all normal until the code is thrown again.

Why would the ECU tell the injectors to give LESS fuel for too much air (overboost)?

  • i live in silverthorne, and i have to drive up to the tunnel every time i want to get to denver. That's a steep stretch of freeway, especially for my '97 buick lesabre haha

  • @THEFRESHSC Totally. The car has been happy every time I've taken it up the hill, since they fixed it.

  • I 'll take a real manual gear box any day !!!

  • Car is still going strong! Not a single problem since Mitsubishi replaced the Turbo assembly and a few other items.

  • i love everything about the new MR, the brakes and suspension where incredible, and that twin clutch paddle shifting was so much faster than a 5 speed would be. the cool thing is my talon is almost as fast as it :)

  • i agree with Loudsouth1. he is smart and you are a dummy. SERVICE REQ! You jumped the gun cunt!!! You should get a Mazdaspeed 3. Less problems. hahahahaha!

  • @dickinscider69 I beat your mazdacrap 3. hahahahaha

  • @rctheil Yeah.......fwd.....=gai. Motor mount failing, engine intake valve failing.....mazdaspeed crap.com

  • I have 2009 Lancer Ralliart with ‘Twin Clutch SST’ that I experienced exactly same things on your video.

There is no way to fix it. Just turn it off the ignition and turn it on.

    ‘ucking Mitsubishi can’t fix it.

In my experience, you have to be careful less than 55F weather temperature.

  • @Iyanjung If you are tuned, check your torque limit tables.

  • The MR is for people who want the convince of a automatic for everyday driving and the option to switch to manual mode for more of a spirited drive. Stepping on the clutch gets exhausting after awhile in stop and go traffic and your ankle and knees hurt. The MR is better I think. You get the best of both world but you pay more for the MR. MR=daily driving GSR=track driving.

  • stupid I personaly owned an evo 10!

your problem is you are not in the right engine speed so when you do it in automatic it will keep down shift or up shift.

  • @LOUDSOUTH1: You are an IDIOT. This was an issue verified by Mitsubishi Engineers that came out from Japan specifically to look at my car because I threatened to sue Mitsubishi for non-conformities in my vehicle. Mitsubishi later admitted the car had issues. They replaced parts to fix the problem, and are settling the case with me.

  • @rctheil dude I had that same prob but with my GTS CVT xD It told me to slow down as well xD

  • buha buha buha... my gsr not problem ( 390hp)... mr is very very bad!

  • @fantadavide Do u wanna race, My EVO X MR has been replaced by HKS turbo kit... and HKS hi power exhaust, 510 HP, same as HKS EVO, even HKS use MR, U dumb shit

  • Well, I think the car is finally fixed! Dealer replaced the turbo and exhaust manifold, and I've not had one single problem yet. I took the car up the hill where I shot this video, and everything went well!

  • the problem is that there is no solution for the tcu so that limp mode dont happen. i have a ix MR with 425/411 and it is great. thinking of getting an X MR though. but i wont be upgrading the power so much as i am not in need of it anymore. just gonna do the suspension, make it look nice and do your basic bolt ons and a tune. dont like to shift in traffic anymore then again the need for power never leaves. hopefully they will be able to flash the tcu in a year when i plan on getting the car.

  • sucks bro....should get the GSR

  • No way. GSR sucks. Although we've come to find that this is not a tranny issue. This is strictly related to an overboost which puts the transmission into LIMP mode. Turn it off and back on and everything is fine. So again, this is NOT a tranny issue. Besides, the MR has SO many more things over the GSR that would make me not purchase an Evo at all, before I'd consider buying a GSR. Like leather recaros, two piece front rotors, painted trim pieces, more sound dampening material, etc, etc...

  • @rctheil cool, good lucky with everything, nice car btw

  • hey do you know how to read.? SERVICE REQ....UIRED!!!!!!. I don't think so

  • Wow, you're a moron. Don't you think that's why I took the fucking video?

  • After a month of having a new ECU, the problem seems to have been solved. I've put about 800 miles on the car, and literally driven the hell out of it, and haven't had a single issue. Let's hope this is the last time I have to deal with it.

  • i just got rid of my MR and got the gsr. sorry but i hated the sst nothing but problems complete shit and it cant hold power

  • If you're adding HP, and not upgrading the tranny clutch packs (as you would upgrade the clutch in a manual), then you're not giving it a fair chance. As I've not done any mods to the car, I don't actually have any issues with the transmission, and i's way better than having a manual. But if you are going to add HP, then you have to add the upgraded clutch packs. There's many reports of people running 500+ HP with the SST.

  • @Hockeyfreek09 blah blah blah just admit you couldnt pay anymore payments to keep your MR... and im sorry to hear you hated the SST cause that shit is one of the hottest shit out there .. and if you didnt know how to use it witch i doubt cause on your video you sound stupid as fuk so i bet you wouldnt shift it yourself.. anyways GSR ugly as hell slow at track compared to an MR .. and if you talkin shit about the MR take yo video out of you showin your MR and putting your GSR on fuk..

  • Dnt worry Bro, he is still living in early 90's he loves his Little Joy stick.. LOL No doubt MR is a better car, MR = Mitsubishi Racing

  • service required LOL!

  • OK. First off thats your opinion that you think its way better than manual. I happen to think manual is MUCH better but thats preference. and 2, ive never heard anytging even close to 500 hp on thr sst

  • You can't get even close to 500HP with the stock tranny. It's got to be opened and the clutch packs replaced with upgraded ones. There's a company that designed two different types. One that will hold up to 450 pounds torque, and another that is made for 700+. And they aren't the only company designing them. Problem is, it's not cheap.

  • SST is total garbage. Sorry about that, man!

  • I totally disagree with you. The problem ended up being the ECU. It was faulty and causing issues with the system which was putting the SST into a LIMP mode, which made it act this way. The SST is superior to a manual transmission in many ways, even as much as I love a manual. Watch a Rally race. Ever see those guys shifting? No, it's because this style of transmission is far superior

  • should of got a gsr hahah

  • Yeah, because a GSR wouldn't have had a bad MAF sensor, which caused this issue. (insert rolling eyes emoticon here)

  • Any time a engine related cel happens the tranny goes into safe mode. It does exactly what its doing in your video. Sometimes its the maf, other times its p1234 (overboost)

  • A followup: So far, this problem seems to have been caused by a bad MAF sensor. Mitsubishi replaced the MAF and while I haven't had the time to test the hell out of the car, it sure seems like these problems have been eliminated
