damn i thought the sti was stock.. i tune subarus.. and 13.1 @101mph.. seems slow for ur set up.. wat elevation u have?.. the mods u posted plus some E85 should be in the mid 12s.. plus u are powershifting which helps a ton .. and u have a 07 6spd tranny.. do u have a catless exhaust system? also.. are u on stock injectors? i maxed out stock injectors on just pumpgas around 20psi..
What do you call "stock?" In these videos the car has stock injectors, stock pump, stock exhaust, stock intake with a KN panel filter, aftermarket wheels/tires,coilovers, and 33% e85 with 67% pump premium in the tank, the cobb AP with a tune. Ie, software & fuel. Most Sti's run 13.5's as they come from the dealership at this track. The best I got powershifiting on pump premium as it came from the dealership was 13.44 first run and 13.55s after that. (Elev. 2800', the temp was 88F)
if ur running a stock exhaust.. that explains a lot.. the set up i meant.. was a stage 2 sti set up.. with a good tune a good driver and powershifting.. its a good 12.6 at 105-106mph. i still dont see y u are using E85 on stock injectors.and exhaust.. when i regular stage 2 on pump would get u this times.. and u dont have to run the risk of running too lean if u go over ur 33% on E85 and pump more in, also.. how much boost are u on?. like i said before. i can max out sti injectors on just pump
We experimented with 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% E85. We found 33% was the max % E85 that we could run safely with stock injectors. However, that is at 2800'. On the coast you are right it might run lean due to more O2 being available. But I don't live on the coast, so 33% is what we did. Maybe 20% would be max E85 on the coast.
The reason for all this was I just wanted to show people how big a difference a little bit of e85 and a tune makes on even a stock care.
PS. Since the above video was taken, we did change the injectors out to 1100 and put in a wallbro fuel pump and it's now 100% E85.The rest of the car is 100% stock. Again, I am just trying to show the factory what they could achieve with nothing more than a fuel and tuning change. Haven't been back to the track since, but eventually will find the time.
After I do that, it'll be a new custom downpipe I've developted. :-)
i dont have a sti.. but i do have a wrx with a hybrid block.. 2.5liter block / 2.0 wrx heads.. and a 06 spd tranny.. i do have.. a fmic, headers, full catless exhaust. 44 tial wastegate, intake, turbo inlet, and methanol injection., walbro 255, and sti injectors..vf39. i once tried to run e85.. and i couldnt go past 16psi without maxing them out, and running lean
And what % of e85 did you try? with the intake and exhaust mods I am would not be reprised to know you maxed out the stock injectors even with a small amount of e85.
i've done lots of testing on my own car.. but we tried e85 on my friends 07sti.. and same results.. . my point here is. that E85 is a great fuel for making lots of power.. but to be able to make this power u have to run more boost and more timing than u would on pump gas.. and u also have to use more fuel, because E85 carries less energy than gasoline.. in other words u need bigger injectors to benefit from e85
I respectfully disagree with your assessment. If you are at sea level you can take 20% E85/80% pump premium and get a huge boost in midrange torque with a moderate increase in boost and timing for nothing more than the cost of the fuel (which is less than race gas) and a tune. If you are higher altitude you can run 33%E85/67% pump premium and achieve good results using the same mods.
Yes, to get the most out of E85, injectors & pump are required, however, when I went to 100% e85, with injectors, pump & tune, we only gained a small % increase in tq/hp. To get the max effect, it should be coupled with exhaust & intake mods.
So it comes down to 2 types of car. Stock with 20-33% E85 and a tune for an extremely cost effective boost in Tq/hp or 100% E85, intake & exausts, injectors and pump for a pretty big increase. The first costs $xxx and the second $xxxx.
also my best time on just pump gas on a vf39.. and the hybrid block.. with just a catless exhaust./ intake and tune on 18psi.. ran 12.8@109mph.. with a toasted clutch.. only had one pass cuz of the clutch.. i recently added the 6spd, and headers, ewg, fmic, act ceramic 6puck clutch, sti cams, and meth.. the car is a lot faster.. but im planning on running 100% e85 once i decide what turbo upgrade im doing and the size of injectors i might need
Thank you. I wish my camera man wasn't playing with the zoom that run, but it was fun either way. :-) Yes, it's stock except for the fuel (33% e85) and tune.
Need a camera man mod for sure damn!
