  • and now the world can see the state of your roads through youtube. terrible i'ntit.

  • I've traveled to Arran many a time over the years and the roads have been steadily getting worse, the roads don't need a quick fix, they need ripping up and starting again, I know that would cause a lot of disruption on the island but it could be done, NAC really needs to get it's act together for the safety of the islanders and the tourists, a beautiful island, spoilt by the roads :-( I'll be back again in Aug 2012 for a few weeks, can't wait but hope the car can handle it.

  • I took my car over to Lochranza from Cloanaig and I noticed a big difference compared to the roads in Argyll the minute I hit the roads in Arran. They are the worst roads in Scotland. Keep up the campaign

  • My wife and I come to Arran as often as we can. We bring our caravan from the ferry at Brodick to the campsite at Lochranza.

I can speak from experience that the items in the video are spot on, The only bad thing about this lovely Island are the appalling roads. Come on North Ayrshire Council, Get some cash spent on the Arran roads.

  • Great Video Ian, big thanks because we were planning another Scotland trip and Arran was high on the list. Too dodgy for my motorbike I'm afraid. Post another video when you get the roads sorted and we will be over....

  • these roads are so so shite, my honda needs a new back box and anti roll bars coz of the roads.

wats the deal with the big squareat whiting bay bus stop!?

  • We visit the island regularly in a Motorhome with a Scooter on the back. I frequently have to drive the MH in the middle of the road to avoid ruts and holes and when on the bike we have to be sooooo careful, hit a pothole or loose gravel and your probably dead. We are seasoned visitors and know the roads and most of the problem areas well. This is the worst I have seen it and I hope I am wrong but one day soon an unseasoned visitor possibly on a bike is going to get killed Keep it up Ian!

  • I think this is a very well made video. I'm sure it's the potholes that have warped both my wheels on my mountain bike.

  • Good work Ian - KEEP IT UP. Next time there's an accident someone might not be so lucky as me. I'm sure there will be another one with the state of the roads. The String Road has got worse within the last 4 weeks !!!!!

  • The String road is notoriously bad so going at 60mph is not a good idea. Staying on the road is the drivers responsibility first and foremost.

  • If motorists gave cyclists the same consideration and room as horses get, nobody would get injured. Speed is always the problem. What's the big rush on a beautiful island like Arran?

  • You seem to not understand or have forgotten that this is not just a beautiful island but it is also a working island, and home to many and you forget that a horse has a mind of its own and could decide to stop at anypoint

  • Yes. Because we have jobs we should ignore the highway code. Dafty.

  • If you hit a cyclist swerving to avoid a pothole, I think your agenda will be that pothole.

  • Yes, but do you not think that this particular campaign would be a lot more credible if it also highlighted the need to tackle speeding on the island?

  • and for the record, motorists should give cyclists 1.5 meters and slow down accordingly when overtaking. Anything else is bad driving.

  • I often cycle and run the gaunlet!! its just a matter of time before another bad accident. NAC should be ashamed of themselves...

The tourist comments sum it up really, its an embarrassment. Fight the fight Ian!

  • The main cause of 'accidents' is bad driving. Something that this video ignores. I wonder why Yes have good roads, but they are useless without safe drivers. Do Ian and Chris not think there is a problem with speeding on the island? Or do they just have and agenda to promote?

  • why is all the blame on nac why no blame to thomson or forestry commission

  • I agree! They do play a big part in the deterioration of the roads.

  • well done Ian! shows our lovely roads in their true light, safety shoud be a priority, the RICE KRISPIE machine is nae use!!

keep up the good work xx

  • Yet they feel the need to steal the money for fixing the roads to spend it on the Magnum?

  • Shocking state the roads are in. I look forward to cycling round the Island several times during the summer season, but I'll be having second thoughts about it this year unless I can hire a Challenger 2 Tank which might be adequate for the job. Go to Argyll if you want to see better roads, you can go for many miles without seeing a pothole!

  • Well done Smally,

In the last year we've had new shocks, a buckled wheel, a puncture, and now new bushes. NAC should go to Skye & have a look at the road from Scullamus to Armadale. It use to be single track like the Ross & now puts the M8 to shame. If they can do it why can't NAC???

  • The Romans had better roads in 46AD!

  • Brilliant, Gus McLeod should be made to

    watch it every hour

  • hope this will make them stand up and take notice

  • good work... wish there were more guys like you in the world that do care about others... the ribbon road on WoH (westcoast of heaven-- Arran) is total hazardous to the point of deadly danger..
