I will say. This system is beautiful. It is really easy to learn and it fits perfectly in "MMA" or sport systems. Becasue it works "LIVE" . I mean jujitsu's framing the kneck and blocking the crossface? thai clinching>? this works beautifully. Its nothing new its just a better package and presentation and great teaching.
@valgorlin I humbly disagree, Sir. The Spear System is actually NOT designed to fit into sports. It is behaviorally based and therefor meant to apply in the "real world", where actual natural behavior plays a huge part. And if I may refer to my reply on your comment on the other video: what your eyes see here is only a quite small piece of the whole picture. I mean this video here is actually titled "Outside 90", so of course Coach Blauer focusses on that. Nevertheless thanks for commenting.
@valgorlin Did not mean it as being a sport technique. Im just saying that it has some of the same qulaities because of the simple "live"ness of the move. Framing is comon in bjj for example.
I learnt this at a law-enforcement agency in Hong Kong, where PPCT prevails... i opine this is the best self-defense technique ever.. esp. for small built female officers..
@119Elias119 Thx, Sir. The funny guy is Tony Blauer, in my eyes one of the greatest authorities when it comes to practical self defense, conflict management and close quarter tactics.
You see that's the neat thing about reflexes - you don't have to learn them at all. There all yours already. What you need to learn is converting them into combative options, i.e. getting back in the fight and doing what's necessary to overcome the thread. That's what the S.P.E.A.R. System is all about.
What about the double defence? You do not know what hight the attack will come from? If you lift your hands and the attack goes under your block? I see the point of "The flinch" but sometimes you do not know what hight the attack will come from...my humble opinion. And no...I am not a master...just a student.
@spartan8able That's a fair question, mate. Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately one only has about 500 characters for a YouTube comment so I wrote a brief note on my facebook page. Just search for Tobias Brodala on facebook and check out the (only) note.
I learnt this today... it's AWESOME!!

I like this guy, he's funny.
It seems like a good reflex to have, and easy to learn.
