I'd rather have the Benq, no 360 is quiet, my Xbox slim is loud as the Hitachi 360 when playing Black Ops but not as loud when playing MW2.

Man the PS3 blu ray is soo quiet, I don't know why people think Xbox is better, I can hear my Xbox over the TV sound and I don't want to install EVERY game I play!

I would advise installing games to the harddrive when ever possible. Not only does it reduce the noise, it also reduces wear-and-tear on the drive and make it last longer

I just got a new xbox lite version, and while im in game, it will just start making a wierd ass vibration sound. When i tap the top of the console, the sound goes away only to come back a minute or two later. its starting to get worse. i suspect its just the cheap plastic on top vibrating. does anyone else get this? and is there an easy way to fix it?

Now I don't know why all of you guys are fighting about noise, aren't we suppose to fight about performance of the two?, as I have done a little research I have heard that the number of Lg-Hitachi drives are less able to get ruined compared to the other three DVD drives.. Now that makes me think I have owned mine (which is a LG) since 2007 and up to nothing has happened to it, so thats 3 years with problems, and YES i am a heavy gamer

Mine is Elite is very loud indeed - sounds like a helicopter taking off! And Microsoft have the nerve to market this machine as a media player - get away! You cannot hear the damn media over the bloody fan noise!! Ridiculous. I also have a "phat" PS3 and its as quiet as a church mouse!

@bosstimeagain Word bro, i had the Elite Fat earlier before i got the Slim and it was impossible to play games that wasn't installed to the HDD, especially when the console was placed vertically. Fortunately it´s almost silent when gaming on the disc on the Xbox Slim and it was very silent when gaming on HDD on both versions. I have a slim PS3 and i also agree with you, they are supersilent!

prob cause you download ur games to your hard drive. If you have an elite, this is highly recommended. All PS3s are forced to do this, thats why its "Sooo quiet"

I have a benQ drive on a new Jasper unit (old 360 RROD'D) and when I'm in the dashboard with a disk in the whole damn room vibrates. It makes a horrible low pitch humming noise and sounds like its possessed. Its really annoying. Also this drive seems to load things slower than my original one which from memory was a Hitachi. Finally it makes a clucking sound when its reading discs and sounds like a cow mooing when you close the tray with no disc in it. Good going Microsoft

Youre using a lite-on, not a benq. Lite-on is the newest disc drive, and has the same shape as benq. I really doubt you would ever see anything other than a lite-on in a jasper unit, as they were put into 360's, at the latest, september 08. Mine has a lite-on and was built on 9-13, and jaspers were introduced around november.

The shape of the tray determines what drive you have. There are two drives not shown in the video, samsung and lite-on. Lite-on has the same shape as a benq, and can be told apart because it makes a lower pitched noise. If your disc tray is in a shape not shown in this video, you have a samsung.
