  • It's sped up a little... just a little (not that I have a problem) LOVE this part though *.*

  • 4:53 - 5:07 thebest part of entire movie

  • I don't get the drawing Toothless made at @4:09 Could someone explain it please?

  • That deamn person who disliked this part of the movie with a very good quality dont know what REAL friendship is!

  • No doubt, he is Dragonborn

  • @BaltoMovie x'D you made my day

  • y'know what's special is that the first time we both my cat home, this is exactly how I got him out from under the couch. Cat food and patience until he was purring like the adorable black cat he is...

  • Best part: 1:17 - 5:12

Best part of the best part: 3:30 - 4:38

Best part of the best part of the best part: 4:27 - 4:37

    :)

  • Really, sometimes I watch this movie and find it hard to believe it's all animation because everything looks so real.

    So beautiful.

I love animated movies so much, and I probably always will.

  • OK it's official! 1 person has no heart

  • ...aaaand this is officially the point in the movie where I began wanting a pet dragon

  • The most beautiful part of this entire sequence is how they managed to build the most important relationship in the entire movie without any dialogue, all in a few minutes with an incredible score and superbly lifelike animations.

  • As far as animated movies from 2009-2010 go, I'd deffinatly prefer this movie over Up....just sayin

  • @ChameleonHead Unfortunately Pixar always wins. No matter what.

  • @XxSingYourHeartOutxX I know! Don't get me wrong, they've made some good movies but I feel like I'm the only one who didn't like some of them. I thought Up was really over-rated.

  • I agree this scene. the forbidden friendship was the most touchy scene.. the music and the emotions in it was so beautiful. i really love this scene.. specially when hiccup doesnt realize how close he's gotten to toothless, and tries to touch him. Its such a special scene. just amazing i dont think anyone can get bord of this scene..

  • 4:25 i love the friendly smile haha

  • am i the onley one who see's the scar's on toothless body when he whas catch with the rope

  • @chibignoufs I think those are just skin folds. You know, like when you force your chin to your upper torso or when you curl your wrist...

  • You knoww. Sharing a half eaten fish would probably be more tasteful to Hiccup if he were also a dragon. LOL

  • Did anyone else try to find the dot that toothless drew?

  • @soulcornflake1 they originally were going to make toothless like a wolf but the director's wallpaper of a panther inspired him to make him more feline.

  • I love how cat-like Toothless is: from stalking Hiccup on the rock to regurgitating the fish like a hairball, his fascination with birds, and placing his head onto Hiccup's palm (which I've seen cats do). The animators clearly studied both domestic cats and panthers when creating him.

  • I always love the look on Toothless' face when Hiccup kicks his knife into the pond. It's like, "WTF?"

  • The whole movie was amazing... but this particular scene is absolutely beautiful... The music and timing is so perfect.

Still makes me teary and it still gives me goosebumps.

  • @thesearemyglasses Me too! I was getting teary-eyed just sitting here watching this scene! It's so...so...great. Just amazing how the whole scene is. The music, the setting, the timing....EVERYTHING is perfect about this scene.

    Now I just need to buy this movie...;__;

  • I have seen movies and good movies but this is a ........ BEST MOVIE of All . The soundtrack is so beatifull and the animation is so good .

  • BEST MOVIE EVER

  • Its a cat... I mean come on look at how toothless acts... Like a cat... It friggin awesome!!

  • Aw...Hiccup and Toothless are so cute and funny at the same time.... * v *

  • How cute is Toothless ^_^

  • "Toy Story 3 was the better movie" says the academy. The same academy who didn´t nominate Cristopher Nolan for Inception OR The Dark Knight. Suffice to say i stopped believing the "academy after 2010.

  • @Curls913

Oh my gosh! Me too! ^_^

  • one of the best scenes I've ever seen.

  • What's so amazing about this is that it doesn't even have plenty of lines yet you can understand it completely and what more...get touched by this very very simple and heartwarming scene.

  • Really get goosebumps all the time I see this scene. I almost cried during this part the first time I saw it. So inspirational. HTTYD has become my favorite animated movie.

  • Mmmm yummy dragon covered sushi. I love sushi but I don't blame Hiccup for being grossed out. This part when the "Forbidden Friendship" music plays I get emotional and I know I am not the only one who is like this.

  • That is true man

  • AMAZING SYMBOLISM

The shield represents Viking tradition and culture

0:02 Hiccup is hiding behind it

0:12 He gets stuck: tradition is holding him back, yet he chooses to go under it

0:16 He can't take it with him; he's leaving behind everything he knows

0:19 He has to go forward without ANY protection in order to meet this fierce dragon.

This movie is about changing the world; going against cultural norms in order to find truth. And I must say, it's beautifully done :)

  • @HerosMark777 Woww....that's amazing; how the writers can come up with it...

  • Damm...how old am I? This scene is so awesome and emotional that I feel like a little boy and I don't mention that epic soundtrack...

  • Finally i have the movie , but in blu ray.... yet . But i must have this magic movie , this especial movie , to me this is the best of DreamWorks skg

  • that last part at the end speaks so much without words

  • they both reflect each other's vulnaribility and courage.

  • Seriously guys, search for the soundtracks. I recommend a user named samajula, they have all of the soundtracks, and I very good quality too. All of them are also full tracks. ^^

  • I love this movie in my whole heart... this so AMAZING!!

  • I have seen this movie about 110 times since it got released here in Norway. I never get bored of watching it, it's my Number one favourite movie of all time..

by the way has anyone seen the "Gift of the Nightfury"? if not go watch it...

"How to Train your Dragon" + "Gift of the Nightfury" = Best movies ever made...

  • my favourite part of the entire movie <333

  • quien es el que puso no me gusta ese es un stupido

  • This movie is to me the best movie of DreamWorks of the decade!!!!!!

  • sniffles! i love thisss! I want a dragon!

  • Can you upload more scenes, please? =D

  • 100% true, that you said Gar2d21

  • This scene is spectacular, just like @LordGodsServant said, no spoken dialogue is needed here. The animation is beautiful, the music adds drama and feeling. I was telling m brother the other day that, for an animated movie, the characters move so realistically, but at the same time, in a way that gives them character. All in all a great movie.

  • 4:06 I'm not really sure if that's supposed to be Hiccup's face.

  • I love how after he sees Hiccup drawing, we stands up and waddles away

  • I am a dragon and i wanna know how to train my viking

  • @xfact9r Read the book by Cressida Cowell, from Toothless's perspective. It is entitled "How to train your Viking" I think you would find it helpful.

  • 1:39 so cute i wanted to hug toothless at that part nd when he murrs i wanted to hug them there aswell

  • 1:04 BEST FACIAL EXPRESSION EVAR!

  • Ones of the few scenes in movies these days that doesn't need speaking in it to be amazing.

  • I will buy this movie on blu ray in next year , and that i swear than i will do it . This is a ...... Epic movie to me . Really is.

  • This is by far the best scene of the movie, honestly, as much as I LOVE it, the only other exciting scene was when Hiccup was in the battle ring and Toothless tries to save him, otherwise it was sort of straight-forward and fast.

THAT being said!, I LOVE this movie

    huh...I coulda sworn you had..

    *CRUNCH*

    teeth O-o

  • I love the part where Tootless sits on his hunches and then sits down completely. It's so cute >.<

  • Great film that shows how everyone can learn!

  • I love the sound Toothless makes after he licks his lips.

  • if you have watched lilo and stitch (i did when i was 8 or so) you'll probably see that toothless has some of the same looking emotions as stitch.

  • It's actually insane how much I like this scene. I don't particularly enjoy animated films as a rule but this was excellent and this scene is one of the best I have ever in films. I don't even think I'm exaggerating. Anything that can still give me goosebumps after 20 or 30 plays is pretty special. The music is phenomenal and that last moment between the two is unbelievable.

  • what did you use on recording?

  • By far my favorite scene in the entire movie.

  • I feel so bad for my friend..... He is blind......".. Makes me sad to think that someone can't see this magical movie

  • I love this movie. I wish I had Toothless he is so cute!

  • This is an excellent film.

  • It's so magical it's ridiculous

  • @CookNut456 I agree completely; this movie deservers more! :)

  • i cant get enough of the calm n soothing music starting at 03:32 .. n movie itself is one of my few all time fav movies... i still watch it with the same enjoyment like the first time... wish i had one toothless :/

  • I really wish I saw this movie in 3D in the theatre, but no i saw it on the computer, then i got the dvd and now I have seen it 90 times.

  • @XxMadMax593 story of my life, bro

  • I love how smart Toothless is

  • Like if you notice when toothless eyes get cute and big <3 :)

  • I saw this in the theatre, and this precise scene - specifically (4:27 through to the end) - changed my life forever. Seriously, it's so poignant and beautiful, that I couldn't help but cry. Thanks, DreamWorks, you've made me a far more sentimental and awesome girl. <3

  • @Rinicorn that sounds so sweet and cute :)

  • Why did Hiccup bow his head to pat the dragon? That part confused me...how does that show loyalty?

  • @YumnaBaqai The way I see it is that because Hiccup is looking at Toothless when he first tries, he reserves the option to run away should Toothless prove violent, in essence it shows he doesn't trust Toothless because he's a dragon (which Toothless associates with the Vikings killing the dragons.)

But when Hiccup looks away he gives up that option. He completely places himself at Toothless's mercy, showing Toothless that he isn't like the other Vikings at all and sincerely wants of be friends.

  • @LordGodsServant oh that makes so much sense...thank you!

  • @LordGodsServant It's also a dominance thing. Toothless is a really rare bird: a cinematic animal that's dominant, not submissive. When Hiccup looks away, instead of eye-to-eye, he's being submissive toward Toothless, and that eases Toothless' fears. You see the same thing later with Astrid; the moment she (vocally) submits, Toothless gentles down and starts behaving. {:

  • Can someone explain to me how the scribble looks like Hiccup? :p I've been starring at it for quite some time...

  • @erinandkim02 Well it is really hard xD you see the rock at Hiccup? Under there are the eyes of he, and then his nose. all the other things around is his hair =')

  • @SoulDragonit Lol! Toothless has wonderful art skills =D

  • the one guy that disliked this vid almost got his head blown off by toothless

  • 1 guy is a fish

  • 0:09 hehe *squelch*

  • I love how Toothless just waddles off to find a stick to draw at 3:38 and the way he was taking a nap upside down like a vampire bat? Oh my god, this movie was so great <3

  • The true Best Animated Feature of 2010

  • The really amazing thing of this scene is that after Hiccup says "I don't hav anymore" there is no more dialogue. All you have to go on is their expressions, grunting and purring sounds, and of course the situation.

And that is more than enough, no dialogue is needed or wanted. You know that the scene is fantastic when you can show a life-defining relationship forming without a single spoken word.

  • @LordGodsServant Awesome film and scene. I love that singular detail that makes this scene of a whole new level of quality, and it reminds me of my favourite animated film, Wall-e :) (this one is 2nd or 3rd :D)

  • @LordGodsServant Yup, just like Pixar has done in many of their films. >:D

  • tsundere dragon (?)

  • One of my favourite parts of this scene is when it goes to sunset at 3:09. It makes you realise how much time they are spending with each other.

  • I get goosebumps listening to the score for this. I get even more goosebumps watching the scene of it :D. Best movie scene and song ever! We need more movies like this!

  • 1 person didnt get toothless,AND they are also a major jackass AKA adolf hitler

  • Probably THE most underrated movie of 2010 -__-

  • @CookNut456 where was this movie underrated? it got great reviews, made big profit and got 2 oscar nominations.

  • @justplayitlouder It should've won at least a nomination but lost to toy story 3 and the social network. Toy story was great and all but this movie should have easily beaten the social network.

    Toy Story - Best Animation

Social Network - Best Music Score

  • @CookNut456 Both TSN and HTTYD had awesome soundtracks, both deserving of Oscars. This one has the sound of one OST for the ages, likes the classic ones of Jhon Williams. On the other side, TSN has the only one soundtrack that became one with the movie, and it couldn't worked one without the other. It's almost a work of engineering, to achieve that amalgam of soundtrack-movie. (If TSN would have won Best Picture, I'd be happy to see HTTYD winning Best Score ;D)

  • @CookNut456 Uh, I dunno I remember it being pretty highly rated. Like extremely highly rated and had a great box office performance and a sequel and animated series is coming outta this. I would definitely NOT say this is an overrated film but it is definitely RATED haha

  • @lavalamp625 -__- I guess I just overreacted. To me it just feels like this movie deserved more, like an oscar award. This movie is perfect in every way. I wouldn't have changed a thing throughout the entire movie. Thats how much I love this film.

  • @CookNut456 how is it under-rated? it got a 99% on rotten tomatoes.

  • @Darkiesmistress Could have won an oscar or at least best musical score.

  • @CookNut456 Don't be so suprised. It was up against Inception.

  • Makes my heart melt. I want Toothless! :)

  • This is the most touching tune I've ever listened to. *happy smile*

  • idk how you can dislike this movie. it has scenes that show friendship action and entertainment.

  • Why is it a forbidden scene? Theres nothing wrong with humans befriending dragons. Thats the problom with people now and days . they think they shoule rule over all fantasys and other animals too . Id rather live with the dragons in there world. then live in this crappy world we all live in now. Nowonder theres not enough dragon movies . It's because of humans probloms with ruling over all.

  • @purplewolfpimp the score that John Powell (the man who composed the music) is called forbidden friendship. It's called that because Hiccup is supposed to kill Toothless, not befriend him.

  • @purplewolfpimp You obviously don't understand it...

  • The music...

  • I absolutely love the sounds Toothless make! All those purrs and growls.. <3

  • This is has to be my FAVOURITE scene from the entire movies I've ever scene in my life ;D

  • Anyone else notice that when Toothless is in predator mode his pupils are slits. And when he's calm or happy they are round

  • 2:30 Gurl if you try and touch me I'ma bite your hand off

    2:53 Not you again...

3:00 WHAT 'CHOO TRYIN' TO PULL?

3:30 Oh hey that's kinda neat what's that - OH MY GOD IS THAT ME?!

  • 5:12 - Eurgh, your hand stinks!

  • You're awesome! I love this scene! Can you upload the final battle against the Red Death on the island and in the sky?

  • It's the miniscule details in this scene that make everything so charming. Like Toothless's ear twitch at 1:01 - 1:05 (which made me squeal like a schoolgirl :D) And the fact that he dots a point in the dirt with the tree whilst trying to imitate Hiccup's twig-drawing. Small variations and details in the scene really make all the difference in the world.

  • YUUUPPPP! That's My Kitty!!!! LoL!

  • @TheOnlyMuffydarling Mine too; in fact, our new nickname for our cat is Toothless, because she looks so much like him.

  • Hahaha, 2:26, best face ever

  • love this movie, i play it every week.

  • is it just me or does the music sound higher pitched than normal?

  • @insanitystudio Yeah, it's higher pitched (having listened to the soundtrack a bazillion and a half times XD). It's also slightly faster. My guess is that John Powell did the soundtrack using the rough edit of the film, and when revisions were made, this scene was slightly shorter than what Powell had scored the music for. Hence, to sync the music with the scene, the music was sped up just slightly, which in turn alters the pitches to a higher frequency (the chipmunk effect). Hope this helps!

  • @SilverEyedHyuuga

That would explain it. Thank you for clarifying!

  • j'adore!

  • Great movie, my favorite animation movie as well as my favorite scene. I always have to smile everytime I see Toothless. Cool dragon.

  • i like toothless 's face at 3:54 till 3:56

  • Tomorrow I will go to the pet shop and ask for a Toothless. Hahaha, An incredible pet, you will no longer get stuck in traffic, free flying. Everything you need is fishes and a cage. :D

  • @rebirthish

isn't Toothless more of a faithful companion, rather than a pet?

  • @insanitystudio Ok, Toothless is a faithful lovely friendly cute companion. Right?

  • @rebirthish

    Yes, that's right. :D

  • I'll put this movie on my top 5 list of "best movie ever" that i ever watched on my whole life

  • 1 guy watch ben 10

  • The drawing does vaguely resemble a human person if you look from a wide point at 4:07 . The little "o" like shape to the far left is the mouth, and the "u" facing up right is the nose, the oval to the right of the "u" and the oval attached to the "us" are the eyes. Everything else is hair.

    Or I'm just over thinking.

  • @WinxGirl1766137 I can see that, though I doubt it was intentional. Cool observation though.

  • Toothless reminds me so much of my cat.

  • @Kittyanimaluv97 LOL funny thing is I've said the same thing as has other people about mine as well. My cat is pure black and has green eyes just like Toothless and the two are so much alike. His name may be Gizmo, but I do like to refer to him as Toothless from time to time.

  • Comment removed

  • The face Toothless made when he regurgitated the fish was soo funny. His eyes rolled back

  • 3:07 toothless's face is so funny

  • toothless is so cool i love him :) And this movie : its so amazing!!!!

  • God this scene was beautiful, Thank you animators and Josh Powell for making this a scene that I will constantly go back to watch and a movie that was so amazing, that I will love it well into my adult years.

  • I freaking love this movie -3 !!!!

  • Lool I love how the scene that follows this is Gobber saying "and with one twist, he took my hand and SWALLOWED IT WHOLE!"

  • @tettilo nobody knows man. Probably that person is jealous of toothless's cuteness

  • you people have no imagination the picture that toothless drew was a bunny i mean cant you see it jk

  • i love how well they almost made the music subliminal by hiding how it started and how it went with the animations of the scene. so amazing how a bond can be so clearly displayed even though they cant actually talk to each other

  • I love this scene! The way the music starts slowly and then builds ... and Toothless' expressions are just brilliant!

  • i love toothless!!!!!!

  • there's always one jackass to press dislike, what is there not to like about this?

  • 4:06 is proof that dragons can draw better than me :)

  • @hvitrgharm15 hahahaha

  • The one person who disliked this video is the back half of the fish that did not get eaten

  • Like if you can see Hiccup in the scribble Toothless drew (:

  • @DDay12G haha i can see it

  • @DDay12G i cant where is it

  • Toothless reminds me of my dog xD

So cool listening to the soundtrack by itself before watching this scene, then seeing how each dynamic of the music fits it perfectly. It's awesome

  • I dont know why but Toothless reminds me of my cat XD
