  • Bernard Hill's acting gives me the chills

  • I'm black, and I love LOTR, I know, not alotta black folk love this genre of film, but I love it. Its hard for me to see that alot of people use this speech as a metaphor for the current state of Western Civilization. Seeing the black armies of Mordor as a black/arab/non-whites coming to destory the West. Like there never were wars, plagues and troubles in the West before. Anyway, I love LOTR, cant wait for The Hobbit

  • @reaper555ym

The original books never intended to make it as West vs non-West. Peter Jackson just happened to make the Haradrim similar to Middle Easterners. In the original novels by Tolkein, the Gondorians themselves were slightly darker skinned than the Rohirrim, and the Southern Gondorians had very dark skin color.

  • @Intranetusa I know all of this, but alot of people dont. They use this is a metaphor, the way Tolkien never intended it to be used, I think thats a shame. For this is the greatest story ever told, imo

  • @reaper555ym

    Indeed.

  • @reaper555ym

And the "black" armies of Mordor is figurative. The evil "black Numenoreans" of Mordor would've looked like Gondorians. Black means evil, not "black skinned."

  • Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?

Where is the Spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing.

  • The most moving and elegant "we're fucked" I ever heard.

  • my fav quote from an awesome movie

  • Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain... Like wind in the meadow. The days have come down in the west, behind the hills... Into shadow.

  • @ivantheemperor thx :)

  • How ironic that this speech reflects the current state of the West in our world.

  • Comment removed

  • Wordy ass fuck, give the white fuckers some bazookas and shut the fuck up. This nigger talks too much.

  • @Bloodact :/

  • @Bloodact obvious troll is obvious

  • @AtaraxiaMedia shit speech is shit

  • after hearing this, you're just like, "time to merc sum bitches!!"

  • To me, this scene speaks this: A nervous and doubtful King heading into a battle he feels that cannot be one. He questions himself and this shows when he ask, "Who am I?" and "Do you trust you King?"

The poem, he recites, says to me that, like Greece and Rome, the old world is coming to an end. In this case, "shadow" represents darkness a.k.a the evil of the Orks...

    Just me...

  • @MrOmeMan *Won*

  • you misspelled "speech"

  • this scene is like greece nowdays!the days have come down in the west...

  • Theoden is my favorite leader in any fantasy movie every. He is brave and loving for his people, yet so very human. He would gladly sacrifice himself to save all of that, but he, as would anyone, would feel fear as he did it.

  • thumbs up if you think this is related to "The Wanderer" poem

  • Anyone else want to fight for this guy?! (raises hand)

  • Theoden King is my favourite character, to me he is the most human and fallible....

  • LOTR OWNS THE WORLD!

  • Too bad Aragorn and Legolas didn't sing the poem about Boromir, like in the book did.

  • Why am I not watching these movies right now?

  • That shot of the uruk-hai at 1:24 is so incredibly epic

  • Bernard Hill is simply fantastic in LOTR. One of the best performances if not the best. Much underrated.

  • Call for the Rohirrim

  • Funny how it is so relevant when compared to the situation the western industrial nations are in right now

  • @contractedwow

    did you slip the soap?

  • Those shots of the kids suiting up for battle are so fantastic. A lesser film would have played kid soldiers for

  • @starmin76

Totally agree. It was one the little details that gave me the chills. Such a desperate image.

  • @starmin76 thats what i called desperate....in any other normal circumstances they would not allow children to bear arms against a fearsome enemy like the uruk-hai....in this situation they don't have enough manpower to keep the stronghold against a determined attack

  • This is actually based on the Old English poem 'The Wanderer' that written in the 10th Century. Still, epic speech and probably my favourite in the film along with his speech at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

  • Like the books says, That when Theoden shouted his speech at the fields of pelenor. It had not been heard a voice like that since the VALA(GODS) Orome strode over the wast fields of middle earth. I Think it's fucking epic when gamling says "Your men my lord will follow you to whatever end" FUCK I WISH MY LIFE WAS LIKE LOTR! EPIC AND WILL NEVER DIE!

  • I love this speech. He delivers it so powerfully, without raising his voice at all.

  • This is my favorite scene out of all three films. The lement of the Rohirrim.

  • incredible quality, thanks for this

  • Πού είναι το άλογο και ο αναβάτης; Πού είναι το κέρατο που ήταν το φύσηγμα; Έχουν περάσει όπως τη βροχή στα βουνά. Όπως τον αέρα στο λιβάδι. Οι ημέρες έχουν πάει κάτω στη δύση. Πίσω από τους λόφους. Στη σκιά. Πώς ήρθε σε αυτό;

  • THE LORD OF THE RINGS FOREVER!!!!!!!!

  • This is right behind Saving Private Ryan as one of the greatest war movies ever made

  • @GamrDan wrong. lotr is way better

  • Gamling... what is your story, dear man?

  • i'd follow him to what ever end, i often dream about being one of the last defenders and being his bannerbearer in the last charge of helms deep

  • I totally LOVE The March Of The Mighty Isengard Army.

    0.49 - 0.52 and especially 1.24 - 1.29... Wow, It's GORGEOUS !!!

Just Look at the Uruk-Hais, armored head to toe, with Great White Hands...

Man, They are utterly Badass !!

  • 7 people don't have horses

  • This has always been my favorite part of LOTR II. His speech, the music, the boy soldiers.... so overwhelming

  • Listen to what he said!! its So true its all Over, how did it come to this. Great Britain i weep.

  • There are no true leaders left in the real world whose followers will follow them to whatever end. I would choose to follow Theoden over any of our so-called 'leaders'.

  • @ATMofAnubis Aye ...

    D~

  • @ATMofAnubis same, follow him to death :) only if middle-earth was real ;)

  • So awesomely epic...won't mention.....Poor spelling of video title ( I men speach? Really man?)

  • @prideofclouds *mean

  • To whatever end...

  • lawl at the Hilter Argument about 4 months ago, lol You really would've put up a good point of view if you didn't put up all that stuff about The Jew propaganda thing, ur funny, btw I'm being payed by the jews to say that you're just a conspiracy theorist, with absolutely no proof besides your own biased opinion lol

  • Such a beautiful scene... the dialogue of this scene reminds me of Shakespeare. It's wonderful. lol

  • Is incredible how the music make this scene so much more powerful, Howard Shore truly is the MAN, what a contemporary composer we have :) great scene, no wait.... any scene from LOTR is AWESOME ^-^

  • This speech is such a good statement on the increase of mass production; of the soullessness of the production line.

  • 'Every villager able to wield a sword' They should have said 'every male'

At 1:12 I see them giving a boy who look no older then 8 an axe... yet even the adult females do nothing but hide and cry in some cave. If they are fighting for their survival, why are they not out there too? Its not like the Orcs are there just to take over the land, they are there to eradicate them, so why not do something useful?

  • @ErikaCn100 I think it's implied they don't mean the females considering the date and place of this scene.

  • @ErikaCn100 there was hope for children and women to flee for the mountains,if the battle goes ill.. so,if they would fight, there would be no more hope for Rohan at all,if the battle went ill

  • Aragorn ''Send out riders, my lord. You must call for aid.''

Theoden ''And who will come. Elves? Dwarves? We are not so lucky in our friends as you. The old alliances are dead.''

    Aragorn ''Gondor will answer.''

Theoden ''Gondor? Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell? Where was Gondor when our enemies closed in around us?! Where was Gon - No, my Lord Aragorn, we are alone.''

  • i don't know who's that rider, but surely im pretty sure its not sauron

  • @1918Polska Arnor fell to the Witch King

  • you can say Aragorn is THE fighter and Theoden is THE King or vice versa

but as my girlfriend said, they both are honorable man!! :D

  • This and Theoden's speech before Minas Tirith shit all over Aragorn's one at the Black Gate IMO.

  • @MerryGoFuckYourself

Actually this speech is from Aragorn in the books.

  • @MerryGoFuckYourself yeah but Sam's speech at the end of this film > all. So much hope, especially in the music. God damn.

  • @MerryGoFuckYourself Hahaha. That's because two of them were based on lines from the book and one of them wasn't...

  • The lighting effects on this scene were really good!

  • how did it come to this ....noma sana .......Theodon King ..yu was just the qing... Sam too

  • how did it come to this ....noma sana .......

  • @SAOrules

    @666Von666

How about you both shut up and let people who actually like this video make comments instead of us reading what you two write.

  • @AnbuScythe Don't look at me dude, I was just asking what that other commenter had against capitalism and shit. I didn't want to start an argument.

  • Very profound....... Theoden has the greatest lines.

  • This sounds so good with earphones :D

    anyways love this speech

  • Where is the wealth that was glowing? Where is the money that was flowing?

The days have gone down in the USA behind the hills into shadow.

How did WE come to this?

  • Can cinematography create anything better than this? And this is just a part..

  • Kill all mens they are boring, orc rules :)

  • Sadly there are no leaders in the real world whose followers will follow them 'to whatever end'.

  • @vars280287 There are: Now they are just called something else than leaders: Terrorist is one example, of people willing to follow them to whatever end.

  • @BeckBo I don't think theoden is the same as bin laden

  • @petertel123 Nope cause he's dead.

  • @SAOrules so is Theoden :P

  • @petertel123 Ha ha! Yup. He too has passed "like rain on the mountains", in that he got what was coming to him!

  • these days man´s orcs are inside

  • I wish there were orcs so we humans could unite against a common enemy.

  • @MatthewEnfield

    Capitalists = orcs.

  • @666Von666 Funny capitalism made this movie.

  • @SAOrules Capitalism didnt write the book.

  • @666Von666 Nope, but it did help to give the author a reason to write it, as well as published it and distributed it to interested readers, as well as create an substantial fanbase! Whats your deal man, capitalism is good.

  • @SAOrules how did it give the author a reason to write it? and it would have still been published under any other political system...didn't really help or hinder the book but gotta agree with Von...Orcs :P

  • I watch this and feel the same way every finals week.

  • EPIC!!!

  • Berlin. 1945.

  • SPEECH

  • But where does all this light come from?

  • @JeePsSsS a huge spotlight right behind that entrance!

  • there were manny leaders but such few hoow where true rulers

  • This discussion of leadership and rule is a silly one. Theoden is a traditional King, hereditary and without any particular consent from his people. Yet he is a wise and well-loved King who does his best in a dark time when things are so overwhelmingly against him. He has his flaws and is as human as the rest, yet he proves to be one of the greatest and wisest and is perfect for his leadership role. Imagine an elected politician stood in his place! How much worse!

  • "A leaders role is not to be served by the people, but to be the people's servant"

Like what Jesus said, "Whoever wishes to become the greatest must first become the least and the servant of all."

    Good day and God Bless

    Sincerely, LordGodsServant :)

  • Deeply moving....

  • Theoden is one of my favorite characters in the trilogy even tho he's a secondary character.

  • @guitarcenter999 One of your favourites? Is my all time favourite!! When I see this scene I always think of King Alfred (I live in Winchester) and the great odds that he faced to save his kingdom and people

  • How did it come to this...

  • @Scorch1zl33t how did it come to this? massive unchecked immigration, political correctness and destructive liberal policy.. oh wait.. are we talking about the islamization of europe or the orcization of middle earth? hmmm

  • 'The Hitler comparison is a very good one, whether you like it or not!! this man know;s the historical figure, not the creature the jewish controlled media and the half backed academics who never stepped into real life made him to be!! Hitler, before anything else was a great patriot and a true leader, he knew what the people wanted and more than that he knew a sacrifice was necessary to save the german people as a whole, tragic as it may have been, he played his role fittingly, unlike men today

  • @Boromir26 BUT He also used fear and military might to force his way to power. If you take time and listen to accounts of German people that were "ruled" under Hitlers Third Reich, you will see that the German population were forced into showing loyalty. In fact it was illegal for you not to shout Hail Hitler if some said it to you. But back to my comment to him. He in fact did state about how the Armies are similar, along with Theoden. And Tolkien fought in WW1 against Germany.

  • @Boromir26 And as for Hitler being a fitting man and play a rule men dont do today. Yes and no. Yes he did take action to help his people. But in the process became a genocidal dictator. And you cant tell me that he did not try to exterminate the Jews and had any intentions of stopping his conquest if he had won the war. Hitler was a power hungry being who used his authority and speech ability to corrupt a people and lead them down a path to war that lead to the division of Berlin and more prob

  • @Entriken133 You clearly have a very very heavily biased view of Hitler, don;t take it wrong, I had it too until I started questioning the man, his motives his reasoning and the structures of his policy. The official documentation you read in school, university the media is all censored, it is clear jewish propaganda. and yes there were detention camps and there was genocide, nothing new, genocide has been and will be around as long as humans exist, it is in our nature and that you can;t change.

  • @Boromir26 I questioned the mans motives and reasoning my self. Like i said, i think what he wanted to do was good and great. But his means to do it were wrong. Exterminating a group of individuals is not the best course of action. And like i said he kinda kept that hidden. Until Allies found the camps not many people, even Germans knew what he was doing. So the Jewish propaganda that you speak of did not cause a biased view of hitler.

  • @Entriken133 You didn't understand my point!! jewish propagande demonized and still does demonize the whole german nation for the past. they created a constant feeling of guilt and self hatred in countless german after war generations!! during the war USA media giants, many of them under jewish control, constantly produced media and reports about the horrible evil german Reich and how they wanted to conquer the world and the usual paranoia bullcrap. 1 thing for certain hitler never wanted that.

  • @Boromir26 And Every country used propaganda. Thats part of war. Hitler used it, England used it, Russia, U.S., Italy, and Japan. Propaganda is part of war, always has been always will be. So the jews were not controlling all propaganda. Every country uses it. Since the dawn of time. So the Jews are not responsible for people saying Hitler is evil. Its everyone.

  • Theoden is like the good version of Hitler

Epic leader, epic army, Theoden-Jugend and everything.

  • @thehumor No, he is nothing like Hitler.

  • @Hordeman89

    Read my comment again.

    The second part of it.

OR don't you agree theoden has an epic army, that he is an epic leader?

Jesus some people in this world.... thick... thick omg

  • @thehumor "Victory at the Helm's Deep does not belong to you, Theoden, Horse Master." :)

  • @Hordeman89

    said by crazy saruman yes

  • @thehumor I dont agree with Hitler. There is no such thing as a good Hitler. Everyone is good compared to Hitler. And if your going to compare him to any kind of leader/army choose something more closely based. Being a calvary army they are more like the huns, but with a leader like George Washington, one who leads men into battle and fights along side them, but is not power hungry. And was bad at first but then turned good (George Washington was originally a British general)

  • @Entriken133

om my god. you are so retarded

please crawl in a hole and die slowly.

  • @thehumor You are the guy comparing him to Hitler. And im the retard? Im sorry that i actually know about the world and history and was able to compare Rohan to a closer army and Theoden to a closer leader. While you compared Rohan to Hitler and his army.... How? Hitlers army was a modern fighting force. They used tanks, guns, and planes. When did you see a panzer tank in lotr? And Hitler was a dictator, who wanted to create the perfect race and rule the world. Theoden did not want that.

  • @Entriken133 You know nothing about Hitler but what the ridiculous jewish media tells you, and they are masters at exageration, no wonder they had 5000 years of exile to practice the art of subversive propaganda!! and the man was comparing Hitler to Theoden he was not comparing the army, the strategy, the weapons he was comparing the character, the role, the influence the intentions of a real man, with a fictional character, a thoroughly valid comparison.Tolkien himself never objected to Hitler.

  • @Boromir26 No your stereotype of jews is ridicuculous. The Jews did not put out propaganda, how could they, they were in concentration camps. And what he did is cruel to a group of people that did nothing wrong. And dont try to say "The jew made it up" The proof is in the camps, which were found by Allied forces. In fact when the war ended the German people were forced to see what their "Great Leader" had been doing. And Hitler did recover Germany after their lose in WW1 i will give you that...

  • @Boromir26 But i will give you that Hitler was a smart man and was trying to making life better in Germany after losing WW1. But he did it in the wrong way. And he made many military blunders. Like attacking on two fronts. Thats what doomed him to lose. But I digress, Hitler is in no way like Theoden. Hitler gained power and wanted to build an empire. He was a dictator plane and simple. Theoden was a king. Who lead his men through a dark time. And died honorably fighting...

  • @Entriken133 well seems that you do have some brains. we disagree on some points, mainly on the jewish problem and the fact that hitler wanted to create and empire!

First the jews did make propagand and made it very very intensely throughout the war and even more intensely after the war. 1 they had the financial means to do it 2 they controlled all the media outlets in the capitalist world, a dangerous monopoly that persists to this day! USA was fooled into a meaningless war by zionist jews.

  • @Boromir26 The jews are a group of people. They do not run the world. They are no different then Catholics, Christians, and Muslims. And i know there are people out there that choose to believe that Jews control everything. But during WW2 Jews were getting exterminated. They did not control anything. They had no property or money. In fact until the allies found the first concentration camps and found the large number of dead, no one other then the jews and Hitler and a few of his men knew.

  • @Entriken133 and Hitler, saved germany out of the brink of social extinction. undoubtedly he did use force to eliminate his opposition but the testimonies of some clearly biased and influenced people do not convince me, the he had the utter loyalty and devotion of a very significant amount of the german population, why is that? because he created values in a society that had none left, he created an ideal identity towards which a people who was broken and demoralized could aspire to.

  • @Boromir26 Even the German people had no clue what happened to the Jews. In fact towns near the camps were forced by the allies to burry the jews. And they were shocked to see what they had supported. So not many people knew. So the Jews were not using propaganda. But i see we do agree that Hitler was trying to make things better for his people. And i do respect him for that, I mean he revived a beaten nation. I just think his ways to do it were wrong.

  • @Entriken133 Regarding his "Empire" for his ideology to work he needed a considerable infusion of "germanic blood" back into Germany, meaning he wanted to reunite all the germanic ethnic groups living scattered through central europe and secure for them a "Lebensraum". For this to work these people should be mixed with Germans from Germany. Initially he tried a program of relocation but many states refused to let massive migration happen therefore he was indeed kind of forced to expand the borde

  • @Boromir26 And my last point is. If he was going to unite the Germanic people. Then why did he invade Russia and attack Stalingrad? Or invade France? Neither country had Germanic heritage.

  • @Entriken133 France is obvious why he invaded!! it was clear politics and ideological play. he needed a show of force to assure a healthy public opinion, therefore France, having taken alsace and lorraine from germany after ww 1 was the ideal candidate. Interestingly enough in France there never have been any substantial oustings, wealth confiscation and so forth. Regarding Russia, one thing that I think you do not know is the extent slavic people identified with the whole Aryan myth.

  • @Boromir26 I understand invading the French as revenge. That is clear to me. You just said that he wanted to unite the Germanic people, but as you stated he also needed to get revenge. So he had other motives. And the Bolshevik, is just another term for the Soviet Communist party. And in fact the minority (non Bolshevik party) were actually aided by the Jews. So by saving them from the communist party they were actually helping the jews. Crazy idea. Which is why i dont believe that.

  • @Entriken133 Ukraine for instance welcomed Hitler as a savior from Bolshevik (again jewish run, jewish orchestrated and jewish financed) dictatorship. To gain the trust of his new allies and thus access to the vast agricultural resources of Ukraine he needed to make a move on Russia, which was a fatal error both military and ideologically.

  • @Boromir26 Germany invaded more for resources then anything. Plus he thought the war with England would be over quickly, major military error. But again, why would he invaded North Africa. There are no Germanic tribes there. But there is oil to mobilize an army to continue to invade, which he planned to do. If Hitler would of won he would have control of both England and Russia. He would occupy the rest of Europe and aid Japan in the fight against the U.S., if not invade the U.S.

  • I listen to Theoden's speech and imagine World War One in which Tolkien himself fought. No 'horse and rider' in the disease-ridden trenches, no glory in the mechanical massacre of men. By then the heroes of old are mere echoes of the past, and the days have truly gone down in the West.

  • Gamling and Grimbold should get an award!

  • 7 Orcs dislike this.

  • 1 word

    beautiful

    oh wait, amazing!

  • 10-12 year old boys and old men fighting fearless, mindless monsters (Uruk-hai)... Crap we're dead.

  • to whatever end...

  • Seriously Aragon is THE fighter but Theoden is THE king

  • @tinasepo Only in the movies. In the books Théoden was as much a King and Fighter as Aragorn.

  • @tinasepo eomer is THE fighter

  • @tinasepo yeah.

  • Comment removed

  • I would follow a leader like "Aragorn" to whatever end. There are too few really "noble" people left in the world. "How did it come to this?"

  • "Well the battle now seems a little irrelevant what with the supernova going on."

  • Seriously, aren't Aragorn and Theoden the two commanders you would want for your army?

  • @thejoker100ify Rather Theoden then Aragorn, actually

  • what does he say towards the end, after he says the 'the days have gone down in the west'?

  • @lolcatsful "behind the hills... into shadow." *Uruk-hai marching with epic choir* "How did it come to this?" (vid ends)

One of the most epic scenes in Two Towers in my opinion ^^

  • @lolcatsful "behind the hills, into shadow"

  • this was soo worth all the time searching for it

  • Good question. Where is the horse and the rider? They are always late Goddammit!!

  • King theoden is a sissy watch the movie and see when he gets a little wonded he runes. The uruk-hai are the real heroes not some Horsemaster!

  • @12potatos

It's not a 'little' wound. Theoden gets stabbed by a Uruk Hai Pikemen. He would of died if Tolkien didn't decided he should die at that part of the film.

  • What a true epic movie: they spent around $470 million to make & advertised it and the trilogy made a total profit of around $ 6 billion. Incredible

  • I love this speech

  • ....to whatever end

  • Where is the horse gone? where the rider?

    Where the giver of treasure?

Where are the seats at the feast?

Where are the revels in the hall?

    Alas for the bright cup!

    Alas for the mailed warrior!

Alas for the splendour of the prince!

How that time has passed away, dark under the cover of night,

as if it had never been.

  • @SaenWyrWulf Oooh, look here, someone's been stufying the wanderer recently.
