I've had the opportunity to watch Nellum tear it up in California high school track because I was an athlete and coach. They have league meets, invitationals, and relays. Then, CIFprelims->CIFfinals->CIFmasters->CIFstateprelims->CIFstatefinals. CA high school trackstars go through a long process,so I can understand if Nellum didn't have a faster split than Blake because CA State Championships are a bigger deal. CIFprelims, all the was to State Finals,he sharpened and peaked at the right time. : ]
shame what happened to Bryshon =/ he's still comin back from the gun shot wound. 45.38 as a prep, he'll get it back :) im ruiting for USC in the 4x4 this year. hope they do well
St. Jago! Kingston college! Long Beach Poly! St. Jago! Calabar! Long Beach Poly! St. Jago! Calabar! Kingston college! That's some talented commentating right there...
He started to kick too soon...He should have waited until the final 100 meters...He started his kick just a little after the halfway mark of the final curve..
Oh my! this is the best video of the race! incredible. Bryshon is finally back on the track. He ran the first leg of USC's 4x400m winning team in pac 10 championship this yr 2010. great he's back
@ tbon3r , i could say too bad Bryson Nellums got shot in his leg 3 times & may never run again but i'd sound mean spirited & stupid just like you do but since you are one of those haters wishing & hoping for a drug story out of Jamaica YOHAN BLAKE WAS NEVER TESTED POSITIVE "FOR TAKING PREFORMANCE ENHANCE DRUGS" do your research , The athletes bought & drank a popular supplement drink & it had substance that was questionable to the Jamaican authorities the substance was'nt even on the IAAF list
@404Orion first and foremost yea you could say that about Bryshon Nellum But it would be completely irrelevant to the Topic at hand ... And trust me I would never "wish and hope" at anyone tested positive for taking drugs becauze i run track myself and its sad that when people run fazt they're always accused for taking drugs i love to see CLEAN people who run fazt, GIVES me something to aim for. But as far as you telling me to do my research maybe you should reevaluate yours.!
@404Orion and another thing If he didn't test positive for ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING then he would have been a competitor in Berlin..!! so stop trying to Find any little thing to prove his innocence becauze the JAA sure didn't..!! if an athlete Took ANYTHING that would get him/her banned from a big meet like that then they loose all respect from me..!!
@tbon3r blake never tested positive for anyhting...he took a suplement and it came up with a red flag but the IAAF never recognized it as a banned substance and the JAA looked into it and realized he wasn't at fault so they cleared him...but he couldn't compete at championships cause it would have been too much of a distraction so they didn't take him...
@tbon3r I am really tired of people making comments without knowing the full context of the case, for any athlete. You all should really read up your information before you make comments. Make you sound a bit foolish when later it is not as simple as you said. Read before you post.
i woulda loved 2 see nellum get da stick in 2nd! def woulda saw penn relays fastest split eva! maybe high school too! he already have h.s fastest split at 44.6! and yohan is faster den da dude he caught so i say probly 44.1 or 44.2! shit really didn't run here untill da home stretch when yohan came up behind! but can't wait till he start runn'n again! i heard dis year he comes back... uh ooooh lol!
Great run by the 2nd and 3rd leg runner. 2nd got them back in from the stagger, third gave their anchor the confidence and the lead, what more can you ask.
By my watch I had Nellom at 45.3 and Blake at 45.2 for what it's worth. But also keep in mind that Nellom split a 44.6 at the California state championships in June of that season. In this race, it appears that he's not running his fastest. But, who knows....................................
i got nellum at 45.54 and blake at 45.66! one u got to start the clock when they hit the line and two blake slowed down! das what made his time a lil slower! he woulda def had a faster time and so would his team if he woulda went thru the line! but again start the clock as soon as they hit the finish line, not when they get the stick in their hand! so try it again, u'll see
I've been involved with track and field for almost thirty years. I know how to time a relay. One thing that I know that you don't do, is carry out a hand time out to to hundredths of a second. So, I would question the 45.54 and 45.66 times quoted.
4X4 relay legs are timed from the middle of the zone, if you really want to be technical. What it appears you have done is timed them from the point they recieved the baton, to the finish line. I did not do that. This is not correct.
4X4 Relay legs are timed from the point the baton passes the middle of the zone (which is indeed the finish line on the last three legs), to the point it passes the middle of the zone again.
Time it in that way and YOU'LL see..................
45.3 for Nellom........................45.2 for Blake
trust me dude! in another video (long beach poly going 3:09) they clock it the same way! and they got nellum at 45.4 and so do google! i run track as well and thats wat my coach told me 2 do when u gettin splits!
Well, I don't want you to go against your coach. But, the way that you're taking splits is the way that many do it................and it's wrong. I've competed, coached, and studied track and field for over 25 years. The correct way to time a split is stopping the watch every time the baton passes the middle of the zone.
how da hell do he go out that hard and still can turn it up even harder the last 100!!?! he splits 45's and 46's and walk off the track like it was nothing!! when i first went 47 i was crawlin on da ground!! this nigga splits 44.6! smiles and talks about the race!! i split 46.9 and was yellin about how much pain i was in!!! lmao! that jus go to show u how strong bryshon really is...
i kno right lmao!! man if u watch da arcadia 2007 boys sprint medley when they broke the national record, this nigga was smilen and jokin wit his boys after the race in there interview! and dat was his first time goin 45! he get on my nerves lmfao!
kingston college???? doesnt make sense its a high school race and kingston COLLEGE is in it anyone else catch that? dont matter tho the U.S team still won
I ran in the trials for this but we only ran 3:20.1 and we were in the fastest heat. But i was also on the 4x8 relay and we made the championship of america. I anchored and i am not exaggerating when I say if there was a jet taking off in the middle of the field, hell 20 feet away, i would not have heard it. Im going for blood this year in the 4x8 and we stand a chance to metal this year in the COA 4x4 too...I must beat the Jamaicans.
If you have never been to Penn Relays; see you in April 2009. Penn Relays is absolutely off the chain. The Jamaican schools dominate; great friendly rivalry between the Jamaica and the US; wonderful meet. USA - Jamaica!
don't u feel a chill go down ya back when bryshon and yohan is battlin down the home straight away and the commentator is screamin along wit the crowd????? i watch that part like a thousand times b4 i'm done lol

Great anchor leg by Nellum, he is a true 400m runner. Doubt St Jago would have won even with a 100% fit Blake. The key was the poor 1st leg by Calabar and the equally poor one by St Jago's 3rd leg runner.

i was there too, i also ran the 4x4 that day, u cant fuck with long beach nellum is nasty but yohan blake is fast too he kinda closed the gap on long beach
st jago ran a good race they needed a better 3rd leg though. and also overall that year st. jago had a faster 4 by 4 time than long beach with a 3:09.5
