What really happened (i think) was that *SOMEHOW* Siegfreid was released from Soul Edge's power (I am assuming through Soul Calibur's own power) and Soul Edge's power manifested itself into a being we all know and love as Nightmare. Basically Nightmare is just an animated evil suit of armor hell bent on destruction (as of Sould Calibur 3 and forward).

people didn't ignore the story that Soul Edge turned you evil. The story was twisted so that the tale said it was a blade that would make any wielder of it powerful beyond belief. Soul Edge didn't split into two pieces, it was like 30, then reformed into two, Soul Edge female, (Cervantes' sword) and Soul Edge Male (Nightmare's sword). Algol... driven by vengeance? vengeance for what? it was more like remorse. also, you only cover Soul Blade and the first Soul Calibur. because there's not 4 more.
