I met him a few years earlier. What a nice, genuine guy he was. I always had tons of admiration for him, but he made me feel like I was somebody important. I'd just reached the point where I'd decided everybody in the business was phony to the core, and then I meet this guy, who's a well-established, world famous artist, and he was thoroughly generous, kind, warm and honest. He didn't change my mind about the business, but he was a real breath of fresh air. The good they die young.

I am so impressed that you have chose to speak of Rory Gallagher. I have seen many bands in my 40 years of attending concerts. Rory was the only one I chose to see over a half a dozen times. The old videos help a person remember a legend, but stop well short of doing his energy on stage justice.It sincerely breaks my heart that when the top 100 guitar players of all time are mentioned that he is not on the list. He belongs in a Hall in Cleveland ! TY Slash for remembering.

I learned of Rory thru Slash. Thank God I did...Rory is the MAN! When asked to describe Rory's music, Slash mentioned: "If Jimmy Page was red and Hendrix was blue, then Rory was...Magenta! He was definately a big influence on my playing."

I agree with Slash on this one, if a band or an artist can't put on a good live performance, they ain't worth your time.

So checking out the live stuff prior to getting studio albums, I think is a great idea, and kind of what I do too with new artists.

Sounding good in the studio is easy, now playing live, that's the real test of any musician.

But it was just a bunch of dickhead radio and telly dicks trying to be cool, *Yah ya know I always loved Rory" etc etc..

Then Slash came on, and I finally sat up and started to take notice.

I wasn't talking about leaving the stage. Slash was back at the hyatt for a very short time. Rory broke out an acoustic guitar and played but Slash was long gone.

I first heard Rory in the late 60's when I bought "On the Boards" by Taste. Went to all 3 concerts he played in Aust, from memory 1974, 1976 & 1992 at the Enmore Theatre. He was indeed the greatest!!

Αυτά τα παιδιά δεν λειτουργούν με χολιγουντιανές δόξες. Πες τα παλαιομοδίτικα, πες τα υπερβολικά, καθηστεριμένα, ακραία, πειραγμένα, ή και φεγγαροβλαμένα αν θέλεις, αλλά δεν υπάγονται στην συνομωταξία των συνήθων σουπερσταρικών "ηρώων". Ε κοίταξε, δεν είναι καθόλου δύσκολο να την κοπανίσεις. Δεν είναι να φοβάσαι για το τι θα γίνει μετά κλπ. Αν μπορώ να πω κάτι κι εγώ ο ξαποσταλμένος ο κατηραμμεεένος όφης, είναι ότι παίρνεις τα μπογαλάκια σου και φεύγεις. Σιγά το κλάσιμο. Η εργατικότητα και η εφευρετικότητα του Έλληνα του ανήγουν παντού τις πόρτες. (Εκτός Ελλάδος φυσικά. ;-))

Κι εγώ ρε παιδιά ούτε μέσα είχα ούτε τίποτε άλλο. Απλά την κοπάνισα. Έκοψα λάσπη που λέμε.

Βέβαια για την ώρα είμαι εις υψόμετρον 3500 μέτρων εντός του κράτους των παραδοσιακών τραπεζιτών εις το καντόνιον Graubunden ινα μετρήσω τας ατμοσφαιρικάς διαταραχάς! Kι όπως καταλαβαίνεις εδώ στους παγετώνες δεν έχει ούτε μπαράκι ούτε Μαράκι να πιω μια ρετσινίτσα βρε παιδάκι μου!.

Ακόμη και η σύνδεση μας με το ιντερνέτ είναι μέσω κεραίας βραχέων που θέλει ταρακούνημα κάθε τόσο για να πιάσει το σήμα το γαμευμένον! (Άγια λυχνία βοήθησέ μας!)

Rory Gallagher, the penultimate guitar player in the small venue. He knew the blues like any one. Ry Cooder, is the only one I can compare him to, Rory made the blues and folk fusion popular. Rory, made the life of the guitar player more salable.

He was so great! Je le vois encore danser sur la scène avec sa guitare! Il sautait sur une seule jambe - juste à travers la scène, plein d'enthousiasme, de verve, d'énergie, d'amour pour SA MUSIQUE. Ah oui, ce sont des souvenirs pleins de joie!!!!
