I love all of Shorty and Slim's music, I just wish there was a way I could get it with closed caption on it as well. I know a few Zonians that are hearing impaired that would love to be able to feel the rhythm while reading the Closed caption and watching the beautiful videos of Panama and the Canal Zone.
Soy panameña 100% nacida en la capital de padres aguadulceños, no puedo hacer mas que sentirme orgullosa con un video tan lindo y una canción tan dulce que elogia a mi bello país y a mi gente. I've been to Panama. It was a cool place, nice Bars. The wild life is crasy , it's a jungle down there, for real. Just getin of the boat there was a dead beetle bigger than my fist. I got drunk and wondered into a Hore House and got Gonorrhea in my mouth. That was my fault, dumb things you do when your drunk.
With great pleasure I discovered the Shorty and Slim's video, knowing full well that their authentic lyrics and images will remind me of our common life of growing up in Panama and the former Canal Zone. All elaborated by musicians that faithfully translate the folklore and cultural details of life in Panama. As an old Gamboa boy, I am pleased to have such talented musicians as Alex and David remind me of the beauty and wonder of our common roots and unique cultural heritage.
Excellent song guys! As a former Zonian (Gatun) and Cayuco racer I really enjoyed the song and video. I've enjoyed the Mango Street and Platano CD's for years now. Are you guy's gonna try to get to the ReUnion in Tampa this year? We'd all love to have you. Come and get some Panama Cervesa and ceviche and all the friends anyone could want!
Hi, I've liked Shorty & Slim since I heard their CD "Gone Platano". Their songs are easy to follow and touch interesting details of Panama. This video is wonderful - it shows beautiful sides of my country. Congratulations! Come and enjoy Panama.-
like a few others who have posted comments to this video, I was also born in Panama. My family lived there for several years, off and on. The last place we lived was La Boca in 1970 across the street from what was then the Community College of the Canal Zone. Anyway I loved this video, I am going to make this my theme song as it is my dream to return to Panama to live as soon as I can afford it.
Wow just at work and it's gettin cold so I just typed in Panama and lo and behold I happend to click on this, well when I was in Panama I remember Alex, but we used to call him Tropo cause he wore the beach wear. Man great memories all my life Panama is still so fresh in my mind thanks so much for making it even better.
Hi I am from Panama, I loved your song. its pretty good I am promoting it on my facebook so all of my friends from the north can see it.. Muchas gracias por tan bonito gesto.
I loved the video!, I am from Panama but I have been living in Montreal for the last 5 years... I know how does it feel to look at the trees and seeing no leaves!! ;-) nice tune!
yikes how i miss panama, I was born there as well. I have to say my fondest memories are from there and i cant get them out of me. I should go visit soon. luved the video.
I believe I saw the leader singer in the video perform live at a party in La Boca back in 2004 when I was at FSU. I'm not sure about the other guy but I do remember the face of the lead singer.
I live in Panama and here is Wonderful. There are many things near of us: Mountains, Beaches, Amazing landscapes, Rivers and an awasome nature and the most important thing, people here is very nice and warm. I love my country and I invite to all here and know it. I liked too much this video. Me gusto mucho este video. Bienvenidos a Panama.
The video is perfect. Especially watching it this time of year (in the states). I grew up in Coco Solo, that's on the Atlantic side of Panama. Can't wait to get my ticket! Planning on a Sept. visit. Slim & Shorty....you guys are Great! Corondo Es Vida!!
Oh Lard a Mercy, Coco Solo!! Listen to our 4th Album, song called "Colon, It look Like Venice". Colon not the same as she used to be, but she always will be the Gold Coast! Yeah Man!!
Ditto to that depressed feeling. Wish i had'nt gone all the way into coco solo. It was terrible. Other than coco solo the Atlantic side was pretty well intact. I usually stay at the Coronado Resort when in Panama.
This video is beautiful. Wow you read my mind! I was born in Chiriqui,Panama but my parents moved here when I was 7. I'm 27 now and lately I really miss my contry. I 've even convinsed my husband into moving back there, his American and has never been there before. I'm so happy we're Going Down to Panama. I'm coming home.
Love this so much. Can't stop playing this. And what a far cry from St. Mary's choir...Love and best wishes from all the Dawsons..Gail, Brian, Sharon, Erin, Kelly and Herb. Keep up the great work!!
EXCELLENT!!!! That's exactly why we moved here 2 years ago. Where was the "ugly cold part" filmed? Looks alot like a grey day in Pittsburgh. The band is great! Love to hear more from them!
haha! the 'ugly cold part' was filmed in Kansas. A cold, dreary winter in Kansas. I thought it would make a nice contrast with all the beautiful scenic stuff in Panama.
EXCELLENT VIDEO. very well done, makes me feel so happy to be living here. Whenever i go to the States or anywhere else now, I'll have something that I can watch to make me feel homesick of Panama. And I heard that one of the guitarrists goes to Saint Mary's Church in Balboa? Well once again, congratulations with the video.
Yeah MON! Right here in the old Canal Zone, Rass. The band is still kickin', Sharty he's off in Germany since '99 but we are still composing over the internet and getting together any time we can...
Hello, Slim. I enjoyed the Going Down to Panama video and song very much. I belong to a group of small hotel owners in Panama, and I go to different tourism fairs to promote Bird Watching and Nature tours in Panama and would like to exhibit the video at the stands. Would you be interested? (I just got back from fairs in UK and Holland yesterday and I am sure they would have enjoyed seeing this video!)
I grew up in an area called Altos de Bethania and attended Colegio Javier. I had a fantastic childhood and love everything about it! Unfortunately life changed in 1989, we moved to the US prior to the Panama invasion. I gone back a few times and backpacked from Panama city to Volcan in Chiriqui, I loved Santa Catalina in the Veraguas area, going up the milky way before volcan but my favorite spot is in Bocas del Toro.
Dear Amy, I spent my early childhood in Panama and the Canal Zone (1940-48). Where else could a group of kids see a Tarzan movie, and then, 15 minutes later, be playing in the jungle behind a friend's house...swinging on a real vine hanging from a real tree, over a natural creek yelling Tarzan yells at the top of our lungs? How about reading a pirate story, and then exploring Old Panama City and seeing the ruins left by Henry Morgan and his men? (Continued in next post.)
(2nd post)We learned about animals and insects by seeing them in their native settings. Our pets were dogs, cats, countless bugs, lovebirds, even a baby alligator and a coatamundi(for a brief while). We swam in warm waters, watched the ships pass by our house as they entered the Canal, and were fiercely patriotic during WW II. We learned to value diversity by playing with children who lived a far different lifestyle in Arahan (our maid's village). (more to come)
We just HAD to dance when Lucho's group played his music.&bsp; Sunday lunch at the (now razed) historic Tivoli Hotel was customary and special. Carnival...bright colors...polleras and montunas...music...dancing, joy! Colorful fish...sudden rain showers...the San Blas and thousands of other islands...white and black sand beaches...sliding down hills on palm fronds, walking down the Causeway at Amador (then and now)...the Party Bus from Balboa Ave. to Amador...and so much more! Life was great!
We were able to embrace two cultures with love for both. Panama is a very special place. It's magic seems to envelop most of us who were fortunate enough to grow up there. My family returned to the States when I was in the 4th grade (in Balboa Grammar School), but a big part of me still belongs in Panama. I returned in 1957 and three times in the past seven years, and will go back again.
Shorty and Slim have continued to satisfy the need of those of us who have been lucky enough to experience Panama to relive our days in the Zone and beyond. I love the scenes of Panama in this video.
hey Amay am glad you like my country this video make me feel proud about my country i cry watching it words can express the joy of wwatching this video i dont need to be jeallous form other countries panama is my country and my roots Panama is a place to discover
I love this song!!!! It brings great memories of CZ. I get married next month and will be flying down to Panama. I have fwd a copy to all my guest which will be joining us.
This song has a nice beat. The pictures don't always square with the music's words, but I think I get the picture. It does bring back pleasant memories.
?Como que "foreigners"? Somos Panamenos, loco(a)!! Creelo!! I was barn SanFernando and raise Balboa. David (shorty) him a Gamboa Bway. IS Lombris!! Viva Panama! ar

eapsystems 4 years ago
haha! the 'ugly cold part' was filmed in Kansas.

Well once again, congratulations with the video.
kris1490 4 years ago
hmmm, not sure where they go to church, but Balboa sounds really familiar.

Yes, both David (sharty) and I are members of St.Mary's church! That's were we got our start, jamming guitars in Youth Group!! Alex (slim)

Wow, you grew up there? What was your experience like? Thanks for watching...

That must have been one exciting childhood!

You know, it's becoming so Americanized, it's hard to find the laid-back small village Central-America type of place.... I miss the old days.

Shorty and Slim have continued to satisfy the need of those of us who have been lucky enough to experience Panama to relive our days in the Zone and beyond. I love the scenes of Panama in this video.

This song has a nice beat. The pictures don't always square with the music's words, but I think I get the picture. It does bring back pleasant memories.
