@MrPloughe you wont be saying that if you play football, i love both rugby and football.. both are different so dont judge a sport you never played....
@wackymac28 NBC opted out of a second season. TNN & UPN were not willing to pick up the remaining cost. Attendance and TV ratings dropped off after the first few weeks.
I'm from St. Louis, The Rams just gave Sam Bradford $78 Million/ 6 years. I don't want to see him hurt. The 2009 Rams had three starting Quarterbacks it was ugly, 1-15 ugly.
@123TheBeat Lol definitely. There pretty much isn't any excessive roughness penalties, no fair catches, and you can send one person on the offense in motion during the snap.
I don't know about you guys...but I'm excited about the UFl starting tonight. It's not as Extreme as the XFL...but they did get rid of that stupid fucking Tuck Rule.
Yes. They play on Wed. Thur. nights usually on VS Network. But their championship game is Thanksgiving weekend. So the first season is just about over.
I recently found the tape with the First XFL game on it. New York Hitmen at the Las Vegas Outlaws. Sold out stadium, and how they replaced the coin toss with a ball possession drill. I may up load in the future. Also a Regional Football League game from 1999.
I'm so glad this was posted. I never got to see these games all the way through cause I had to work and when I got home they'd be almost over. I wish the whole season would get put on DVD.
XFL was great. They gave up on it too quick. No sports league or association has been successful in the beginning. If they had given it five years I think it would have worked out for them.
If they could have lasted for more than a season... the quality of play and players would have improved. Kind of a shame... some of the players they talked to on here seemed to have a legitimate passion for the game.
they had so good jeresys and helmet logos, except Birmingham
The league was doing great the first 3 week, some of the TV rating were better than the NFL's and the staduims were selling out. the problem was people wanted to see wrestling on the football field, and that is not what happened
The other half of the problem was the fact that they had WWF wrestlers showing up, doing TV commercials, and generally advertising the product. That was just easy fodder for ESPN sports analysts to make fun of the product.
I think a lot of those XFL QBs got sacked much more than NFL QBs is because XFL O-line dissolves in a matter of seconds and none of the QB are NFL mobile.
say what you want about the XFL but some of those dudes hit hard. and if it had of stayed around for another year or 2 they probably would have worked all the nutty stuff out and it would have been a pretty descent league
Yea... Arena is hard to watch. I hate the goofy short field. The best thing to come from it was Kurt Warner. I enjoyed the XFL, I wish it was still around... real football in the spring!
if that's true then how has the arena football league lasted for more than 20 seasons. it looks like thousands, maybe even millions of people disagree with you.
I'm just saying that the fact that millions of people watched it is not a valid argument for it being good. After all, tens of millions of people voted for George W. Bush to be president and would vote for him again.
i'm just saying that: 1. different people have different opinions of what's good and what's not and 2. just because you say something that doesn't make it true.
p.s. ESPN has been around for almost 30 years, they're an authority on sports and they have a contract with the AFL.
Brohm played college football at the University of Louisville. He won the Kentucky "Mr. Football" Award in 1988 while attending Trinity High School in Louisville. Brohm played professionally for the San Diego Chargers, Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns of the National Football League and for the Orlando Rage of the XFL.
However, the final nail in the coffin for the XFL was that Vince McMahhon refused the terms set out by UPN, that WWF Smackdown be cut down to 90 minutes instead of 120 minutes. It was soon after that McMahhon announced the cancellation of the XFL.
The ironic thing is that the reason that the XFL flopped is because it tried to kill two birds with one stone by attracting pro wrestling fans along with football (NFL/NCAA) fans. Even though there's no evidence either way, the majority of football fans distrusted the league, assuming that because of its relationship to pro wrestling, the games were scripted in advance. However, a few XFL players went on to play in the NFL and CFL.
That might be my fault. I have an XFL video on my profile. My profile in turn has a lot of soccer videos which attract a lot of what US Soccer fans would call "Eurosnobs". Not only do they not like US Soccer, but they look at any chance to talk down on "American Football". My video is linked to yours via "related videos".
People love to rip on the XFL now that it's dead and buried but most of their games drew well, especially in the warm-weather cities. Their TV ratings were abysmal by the end of the season but for the most part they didn't have any trouble getting fans to come in person like other failed football leagues before them.
I think people miss the idea of perpetual pro football. Super Bowl, XFL, NFL Europe, Arena, CFL, and then the NFL. I think there was lineman who played for 18 months or so.
Whats the mai difference between the XFL and the NFL?
Like asking AFL and NFL, youd say the field is 100 yards for nfl, 50 yards for AFL and there are walls, i dont understand the difference bt XFL and NFL.
No fair catches. 1 player from each team would run after an idle ball instead of doing a coin toss to decide who kicks/receives. They also had the option of going for 1, 3, or 5 extra points after the TD (5 being the furthest distance from the endzone). Good times.
To this day I still believe that the XFL had the best overtime system. People probably didn't like the XFL because it was run by McMahon. But I liked the XFL because it was different, nicknames on the jerseys (He Hate Me), introduced the sky cam and sideline interviews, and it wasn't as traditional as the NFL as far as team names go. You'll never see team names like the Hitmen, Maniax, or Demons in the NFL. I've always liked the NFL but XFL felt and dared to be different. RIP XFL.
Panzy Brady of the NFL can't take these hits.Media hated XFL cuz Wrestling owner McMahon owned XFL.
