  • "V The Final Battle"

  • @Freddyzorder He's wearing gloves because their nails get extremely sharp.

  • nice tegu

  • That poor lizard must think. "Fuck i wish i was in the wild eating real ones!"

  • What he lacks in table manners, he makes up in appetite!

  • @Freddyzorder They're probably because their nails are SHARP. My baby is 35" nose to tail tip, and she tears my arms up lol.

  • tegu bites are not venomius

  • lmfao all was like dam ima kill it o wait no its dead already lemme eat the other one first lmfao

  • how old is he and how long ? (: nice tegy btw !

  • yummy :)

  • though I still find it sad that the little rats had to die, at least they where already dead so they didnt suffer. I'm glad that you didnt make them go though a cruel death.

  • rat a la carte

  • I created a site, showmyreptile com, where you can upload pics, videos, start discussions, chat w/ other members, and start groups. Looking for members, would love for you to join. Thanks!

  • I have a baby tegu. i am not sure how many times i am suposed to feed them. Snakes i feed him once a week i understand but how bout tegus?

  • @PSTRIPPLEE About every other day but as babies you can feed them every day make sure they get plenty of different things to eat so they dont get stuck on eating just one thing

  • Eww, that things ugly.

  • What a beautiful reptile. Very jealous!

  • i LOVE red tegus

  • which do you think is better a tegu or savannah monitor

  • he got some fatty jowels!! dig it. my reds still a baby so i cant tell if its a boy or not :P

  • @atreyuguy01 You can probe it and if it goes down far it's a boy and if it only goes down a little then its a girl.

  • thumbs up for humane feeding

  • Great looking tegu man!

  • haha he's cool

  • why wear a glove for a bird? the nails arent sharp....

  • lol he moves the first mouse to the side... saving the best for last.

  • does tegu habe poison?

  • Beautiful animal. Also, what a change, to see a handler doing it right.

  • It's good you've got him eating F/T. So many people prefer live, but F/T is so much safer.

  • holy crap!

  • Good omomnoms

  • Nice animal there, how many rats like this, do your Tegu eat in one week ? thinking of getting one of them..., but then again i allready have a iguana, but these Tegu´s just so beutifull and awesome, Thanks for sharring vidio.

  • Tegu's r really cool lizards, I'd love to have one

  • hey mate, how much centimeters do they growing up mostly ??

  • i love the fact that you feed ft. i wouldnt feed my tegus any other way!( except pinkys if thats all the shop has other-wise its ft. only)

  • Beautiful...what an appetite eh?I agree its nice to see someone feed in a responsible manner...nice lizard!

  • nomnomnom :o

not often you see reptiles here on youtube that actually is being fed in a serious manner :P Mostly it just seem to be some kids posting vids of their ''ferocious'' reptiles smashing living food that is waaaay to big for the poor reptile..

  • Yeah....well....I'm not a teenage kid who gets off watching animals kill each other. Hehe. Some would say this video in no way makes up for the other ones I have posted...including my 9 year old daughter shooting a WWII German handgun. Ah well....

  • @2276cc I just seen a video of a Tegu kill and try swallow a giant Rat. Could'nt give my lizards live mice or rats. About the gun .... Target practice at any age supervised by an adult is fine, and filming just makes it great. Lol Take care

  • really cool man im on my way i just bought a black and white cloumbian i was told, i purchased it for 90 $, does that sound about right ?im new to the tegus i own a savanah and its tame now at about 6 months old

  • A humane feeding. Well done Gromit! You've even trained him to eat froma plate! Now that's what I call a civilised Tegu.

I still want to hear if their accidental bite can cause incurable infections. Has anyone died from a bite?

And once bitten, what percentage of owners forgive and make up?

I wonder if there is a separate section for lizards at the local pet cemetery?

  • My brother had a golden tegu that was VICOUS, it would jump at him if he even opened the top of the cage.

  • I had a golden (many years ago) that had the same temperament.....until you took him out of the cage. After the 5 minutes of fighting, he calmed down to where you could handle him. Goldens (and Columbians in general) are much more agressive as a rule.

  • @2276cc Thanks for the info.

  • @listen2meokidoki Alot of people get bit i doubt any die from a non venomous lizard but it is extremely painful and its not the animals fault we decided to take in wild animals and we feed them by putting food inside the cage so when someone reaches in and it looks like food they will bite especially if its hungry. no grudges are kept i havent heard of anyone blaming the animal.

  • An accidental bite shouldn't cause any unusual problems. The ones you're thinking of are the Komodo dragons who are left with rotting meat in their mouths after they eat, which gets all nasty. I don't think that's an issue with these guys...especially if you wash and treat the wound.

  • 2276cc

You are one of a few sensible Americans around these videos. Congratulations.

Now, your comment makes me wonder if any Tegu owner out there in You-tube land BRUSHES their Tegu's teeth? I'd love to see a video of them doing that.

PS: You are 44, so you've had time to grow up. Unlike many of your excessively young & very confused country-people who from the age of <8 are pre-brainwashed into believing so much shit about freedom & the American way now being FOXed & computer animated.

  • @2276cc It's not just Komodo's, the monitor family in general CAN have bacteria in their mouth to cause infections. But in captive bred species it's virtually impossible for any monitor to get the bacteria, since it's being fed captively bred food that hasn't got the bacteria inside of it.

  • @listen2meokidoki What? Tegus aren't venomous. You're freaking retarded.

  • @jedihunter176 What? But then you are just another 18 year old USA child who, in this Internet generated society, will/can never will grow up. Someone said "i doubt any die from a non venomous lizard...". That couldn't have been ME because I NEVER type the lower case I (=me). So what don't you understand by the word NON? It means NOT. As in NOT VENOMOUS.

  • Anyway, there are venomous LIZARDS and I'd expect that a TEGU bite could give you septicemia. And in the USA, if you're poor, you can't afford medicine. And you'll DIE. What a good idea!

  • @listen2meokidoki Bye the way. I is no longer COOL to use the word RETARDED. Learning such lessons though is the what people like you use to "KNOW" that they have (finally) grown up. I suggest you grow. But this small lesson, once you accept it, really is not the way to know when you're a fully fledged adult. You become a Grammarian for starters. lol....no, you won't get that joke. Sorry.

  • Awsome tegu man, i picked up a 10 month old black and white columbian a week ago. Calmest guy ever.

  • he wears gloves like most people so he doesn't get bitten by accident or scratched

  • why you need gloves????

  • i wanna know why too :P

  • Two words: Sharp nails.

    Two more: Strong jaws.

Tegus and other big lizard can cause very nasty wounds with teir nails, even by accident.

And, though they have good eyes, they also guide themselves by smells. So if you thouched a rat and the tegu is too hungry, it can bite you. Not always, and not necesarily, but it may happen.

    Cheers!

  • @spamzer

Correct. Mostly for his nails (which some people trim but I don't have time to trim my lizards nails every week). But they can also deliver a nasty bite - often times requiring stitches. He's not shown that type of agression but accidents DO happen.

  • i bet it is so stupid that if u put 10 rats it will eat till it dies!

  • Well, you would lose that bet. He frequently leaves some food behind.

  • lol reminds me of a bulldog, but a reptile version :)

  • Funny you should say that...I had an American Bulldog a few years ago who did the exact same thing with a whole rabbit that he found in the yard (dead already I assume). He swallowed it whole...like an alligator, flipping his head up and crunching bones each time he bit down. I never saw a dog eat a whole animal like that before!

  • a beautiful animal

  • can u make a care vid 4 tegus

  • Hahaha that's so awesome! Kind of a spaz, lol. Nom nom nom.

  • Why did you wear gloves?

  • Probably cause of its claws I'd guess.

  • Good point I forgot they had claws

  • Ah the lizard looks cute.

  • what an awesome creature

  • That vacuum cleaner sound effect was appropriate: he seemed to be vacuuming up those mice!

  • how long would b4 u hav to feed him again after 2 mice that size?

  • like a day

  • haha what a beast!!!1! XD

  • i got a red tegu the other day, should i feed it live food r dead?

  • No benefit to feeding live. LOTS of benefits (for you and the animal) to feeding frozen-thawed.

  • there are pros and cons to feeding live

    pros:

you dont have to worry about givcing your tegu rotting food and realy fresh meat is better than frozen

    cons:

    your tegu could get bit

i prefer feeding just killed prey

  • Conversely, frozen thawed is cheaper and the freezing kills parasites that may be present in live prey. Also, I don't think a Tegu would be harmed by eating rotting meat.....pretty sure that's part of their normal diet in the wild as they are scavengers.

  • wasent that just hypocritical your worried bout the bacteria from live but not worried about bacteria from rotting? i have a blue tongued skink but i do agree that frozen kills parasites but i like to keep mine active with the thrill of hunting live mice and crickets

  • damn!!! that thing looks scary lol where can i get 1??

  • why do you wear gloves, does he bite you?

  • u can get em from the hardware store.

  • claws

  • hey should i get a bosc moniter or a tegu?

  • ur fat baby is so cute..

  • Thanks i think ima get one of these

  • How much does one of these tegus cost and since he was small u taught him to eat thawed

  • At reptile shows, the black and whites are around $100 and the reds are around $200. Tegus are basically scavengers in the wild....I didn't have to "teach" him to eat frozen thawed....it's natural to them. The only live thing he ever ate (when he was VERY little) was crickets. Then frozen-thawed small mice, then rats. Rats are better as they have more bone density which is important for the calcium content. A good variety of fruit is important to promote better shedding.

  • His weight goes up and down a bit....he had just eaten two large rats and a good amount of fruit was fed the day before. He might go almost a week without eating again. He's not overweight though...not typically anyway...

  • awesome vid and tegu and i applaud u for feeding the tegu thawed. even tho i no some snakes will only take live, ive nvr hurd of a tegu only taking live

  • so B/W are more tame than a Red? and a Argentine is more tame than a Columbian? so IOW, a Argentine B/W Tegu is much more tame than a Red Columbian Tegu?

  • The reds are generally considered to be the tamest......but opinions vary.

  • were they dead?

  • Yes...I feed frozen-thawed. It's cheaper and easier, and I don't need to watch him kill something....I'm quite sure he could and would though. Feeding live food has also been shown to increase agressiveness as their prey-drive gets sharper.

  • rly? i would have favourited it if they were live

  • same ^.^

  • He looks abit over fed.

  • how often does he get meals like that?

  • omg i sooo want one of those .

but it would eat my cat. xD + i already have three tanks ful of fish ,

a turtle , and twoo cats...

BUT I STILL WANT ONE D:

  • i have 3 turtles:d

  • Lol "Go ahead Al"

    -CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP!!-

  • how is a tegu's temperment?

  • He's pretty mellow actually. He's not handled as often as he should be, but he's never acted agressively. Each one is an individual though.

  • Why do you use gloves then?

  • Claws! I'm not worried about him biting, but his claws are razor sharp....if they just graze you, you'll have a nice scratch on your arm.

  • Argentine black and white tegu's are more docile

  • Actually, most experts say that the reds are the most docile....and Al is REALLY docile...

  • Why do you wear gloves I dont with me tegu?

  • Sharp claws....I probably should trim them, but no time for that. He's totally tame, so that's not the issue...just don't want my arms all scratched up if he flinches. It happens anyway, but the gloves minimize it when moving him around.

  • Main reasons:

Frozen thawed are much easier, cheaper and less messy. Those reasons aside, they also present no risk to your pet. An angry/injured rat can cause serious injury to your reptile, and have even killed reptiles. My response question would be, "Why do you want to feed LIVE"?

  • therockeronner

Pretty much everything you said there is wrong. Freezing is a common practice in the food industry for preserving nutrients and doesn't affect protein at all. Wild monitors and lizards feed primarily and preferably on carrion (dead carcasses), so pre-killed is actually more natural for them. Also, claiming that a lizard requires ten seconds of chasing live prey to get enough exercise is absurd.

  • alright i said that 3 months ago.... ive switched to frozen. i know it would benifit from the exersize but really it doesnt even need to be strong in any way....sorry i was wrong, ok?

  • I agree with you completely. Tegus seem to become food aggressive (as I can see in your vid, he goes nuts over those rats). Any sort of movement (such as a hand) that could resemble a live rat would result in being bitten. Hell, this even applies to Leopard geckos and Beardies. Sometimes mine thing my fingers resemble worms I feed them and they chase them expecting to get food out of them.

  • it depends on how you handle and raise the lizard. tegus are not really that aggresive when it comes to food. at least not the ones ive seen, the one at the pet store i worked at i could go into his cage and pull a rat out of his mouth lol, even though iwouldnt do that lol, but it really does depend on the upbringing of the animal, they are as tame as you make em, laot of work helps lol

  • my auntie got a tegu from reptile room cleveleys and the last owner dropped it so its abit more vicious now lol

  • wow nice video man! I love your Tegu, also glad to see that they are still prekilled feeder lol.

  • Oh, absolutely. There is NO reason to feed live unless an animal simply won't take frozen thawed.

  • I think with work and patience, any reptile will take either Freshly Killed or Frozen Thawed :) Nice to finally see someone who knows what they're doing.

  • another rare vid on prekilled feeding

  • thats a nice red mines still a yearling are you wearing the gloves cause he is agressive ?

  • He is just a year old now, too. About 32 inches long. No, not wearing the gloves becaues he is aggressive....just has huge sharp claws! Hehe.

  • i got a red and a black amongst my collection both are a little under a foot nowe they are about 5 months old
