If the government legalized all non-lethal drugs (Marijuana, Salvia (which is still mostly legal), shrooms, LSD, DMT, Peyote, MDMA), there would be a significant drop in coke, heroin, crack and meth addicts. There would still be an abuse of them, but a LOT less.

People drink soda and diabetes kills plenty of people. Besides, MDMA is relatively benign compared to many other compound. It causes damage by creating free radicals which, in turn, create oxidative stress leading to the damgae of cellular molecules leading to nerve cell axon damage/loss. Noticeable cognitive impairment only shows after around 50% of nerve axons in the serotonergic system are damaged. high doses of antioxidants such as ascorbic acid and alpha lipoic acid
prevent said oxidative stress. Dehydration is another worry but can also be prevented by rest, water and fresh air. A testing kit can be bought to test pills. The brain damage mentioned before wouldn't happen in a moderate user who uses around once a month or so and who stays at a dose of around 130mg. The LD50 of MDMA is around 6 grams so even overdose is basically impossible!

Being a freek420show I'd have thought you'd have known that pot does not increase your risk of lung cancer, but may infact reduce your liklihood of developing lung cancer from tobacco smoke if marijuana is used concomitantly with the tobacco. LC are like 10 times more prevalent for young ppl than ever before!

Also, I didn't know that 15 is more than half than 50. In case you didn't know, 15 states have legalized it for medical which is not over half. I agree on the issue about legalizing it but don't speak on behalf of it if you don't know what you are talking about.
@freek420sh0w great post! i would like to add though that lung cancer is more associated with the commercial prepared tobacco products. there are many very old people who have been smoking the locally grown tobacco( ie mapacho in the south america) and are very healthy active members of society. ive seen this myself personally. also the usage of cannabis in inda goes back millenia and there arent any cases of cancer associated with it. on the contrary, cannabis has been found to fight cancer.

big example of this is the existence of marinol, a pill containing THC. Since it is created by drug companies it is taxable. Pot that can be grown by anyone in there own basement however is not taxable.

With all drugs you need to recognise if they are causeing you more harm than good. And find out how to use them safely, eg dont drink alcohol with extacy and other stuff you would find out if you read up on the substance and treated it with respect. However the risks are blown out of proportion by the law, and in a lot of cases they are increased with them being made illegal. There is also a point where safety should not outweigh freedom.

Narcotics will cause physical withdrawl systoms and cocaine withdrawl does not cause any, it however does cause a strong mental urge to continue to use the drug hence it is a very mentally addictive drug. Also alcohol is not a narcotic but a depressant however this drug will also cause a physical withdrawl but no where to level of an opiate (narcotic) withdrawl. Goggle it for yourself and see.

@jdogGA15 Of course, the addiction isn't the only parameter to deal with in coming off of drugs - the drugs themselves served some purpose apart from the addiction (if even only to help pass the time which was otherwise long and boring), and if a user doesn't deal with those issues, they'll likely end up using something else in a similarly addictive/detrimental way, or relapsing entirely.

@BIGGREENLEAF1 Sure, Cocaine may only produce psychological cravings, but the fact that you can take Cocaine every day and have it serve its purpose is way different than that of magic mushrooms, simply because of the drug's natural tolerance factors (tolerance goes up in shrooms at a huge rate compared to Cocaine, which is why trippers are told to wait a week between trips). A Cocaine habit can be daily for years when addicted, whereas a shroom habit never lasts long even as a weekly drug.

@mycelian Well most of the studies we did in college was cocaine to pot not mushrooms it was only classified in the same class as pot. I was guess the psycological cravings for the drugs would be based on the person, the weaker the constition the more the craving. The saying "addictive personality" is true and can be carried down the genetic line more so in one person than another.

Alcohol is a perfectly legal and socially acceptable drug in most societies yet that kills more people than many illegal drugs like marijuana, acid, peyote, or ecstasy.
Not everyone worships alcohol. It's definitely NOT the best out there. I'll drink it some times, but most of the time it's not worth the trouble. It costs too much, it makes you go stupid, possible memory loss and poisonings, dependence issues, destroys your body, etc. Even as something to decrease social anxiety I see it as severely lacking. Cannabis and any of the psychedelics are a perfect fit for a lot of people who don't get along well with drugs like alcohol. What is your source?

Typically tobacco is not THAT harmful and is certainly not the worst drug. It's the other toxins and tar that kome with cigarettes but, plain tobacco? Possibly the least harmful.

If the government legalized all non-lethal drugs (Marijuana, Salvia (which is still mostly legal), shrooms, LSD, DMT, Peyote, MDMA), there would be a significant drop in coke, heroin, crack and meth addicts. There would still be an abuse of them, but a LOT less.
But the govenment stands to lose a LOT of money in legalizing Marijuana. Hemp can be used for pretty much anything. So I'm sorry to break it to y'all: As long as there's oil, marijuana will be illegal. Decriminalized? Maybe.

Also, I didn't know that 15 is more than half than 50. In case you didn't know, 15 states have legalized it for medical which is not over half. @freek420sh0w great post! i would like to add though that lung cancer is more associated with the commercial prepared tobacco products. there are many very old people who have been smoking the locally grown tobacco( ie mapacho in the south america) and are very healthy active members of society. ive seen this myself personally. also the usage of cannabis in inda goes back millenia and there arent any cases of cancer associated with it. on the contrary, cannabis has been found to fight cancer.

With all drugs you need to recognise if they are causeing you more harm than good. And find out how to use them safely, eg dont drink alcohol with extacy and other stuff you would find out if you read up on the substance and treated it with respect. However the risks are blown out of proportion by the law, and in a lot of cases they are increased with them being made illegal. There is also a point where safety should not outweigh freedom.

Narcotics will cause physical withdrawl systoms and cocaine withdrawl does not cause any, it however does cause a strong mental urge to continue to use the drug hence it is a very mentally addictive drug. @jdogGA15 Of course, the addiction isn't the only parameter to deal with in coming off of drugs - the drugs themselves served some purpose apart from the addiction (if even only to help pass the time which was otherwise long and boring), and if a user doesn't deal with those issues, they'll likely end up using something else in a similarly addictive/detrimental way, or relapsing entirely.

@BIGGREENLEAF1 Sure, Cocaine may only produce psychological cravings, but the fact that you can take Cocaine every day and have it serve its purpose is way different than that of magic mushrooms, simply because of the drug's natural tolerance factors (tolerance goes up in shrooms at a huge rate compared to Cocaine, which is why trippers are told to wait a week between trips). A Cocaine habit can be daily for years when addicted, whereas a shroom habit never lasts long even as a weekly drug.

I've never heard of anyone having organ problems thanks to REAL cubensis mushrooms, but amanita muscaria has some scary stories if not prepared properly before eating. what were you growing?

@BIGGREENLEAF1 I wonder if psychological addiction for any drug has a large % of its addiction related to the fact that once you break the "try it" barrier, you start to be exposed to people and questions that challenge the belief system society has tried to cram down our throats, and suddenly you're interested in not only trying it again, but learning about it online and debating it with others like we're doing. If it weren't so taboo, how much would psych.add decrease? :)

@mycelian Well most of the studies we did in college was cocaine to pot not mushrooms it was only classified in the same class as pot. I was guess the psycological cravings for the drugs would be based on the person, the weaker the constition the more the craving. The saying "addictive personality" is true and can be carried down the genetic line more so in one person than another.

I refer to one's constitution strength regarding how well you fend off colds and flu's etc, more than how suceptible you are to taking risks without educating oneself first (assuming that with education on a topic one can make a more reasonable decision within that topic than without). Weird definition-related cognitive dissonance if you think of a chronic drug user who never catches colds or flu...

I havent tried any psychedelics yet, but I know that they can help people in appropriate doses. These are the kind of drugs that expand thought, rather than repress humans potential, like TV does, or like LEGAL antidepressants and alcohol

Religious use of these sacred plants is a constitutional right . It is illegal to persecute people for practicing their religion. This issue really boils down to religious and class warfare being enacted through a corrupt legal system. Blessings to those who have the courage to think for themselves. I believe GOD=Truth. Not everyone worships alcohol. It's definitely NOT the best out there. I'll drink it some times, but most of the time it's not worth the trouble. It costs too much, it makes you go stupid, possible memory loss and poisonings, dependence issues, destroys your body, etc. Even as something to decrease social anxiety I see it as severely lacking. Cannabis and any of the psychedelics are a perfect fit for a lot of people who don't get along well with drugs like alcohol. What is your source?

Typically tobacco is not THAT harmful and is certainly not the worst drug. It's the other toxins and tar that kome with cigarettes but, plain tobacco? Possibly the least harmful.
