  • I wonder what the inside of a WW1 tank looks like...

  • Seems like a hunk of fun to travel with down a busy highway.

  • thats no tank, its an armoured track layer!

  • @Kahu1958

ANZAC and French divisions stopped the German advance in 1918 directly in front of Paris. American divisions were nowhere to be seen.

  • @Adonnus100 Didnt need an American Division, why waste all that man power when they could just send a Brigade instead, primarily the Fourth Marine Brigade ;)

  • @xxuncexx

new zealand did heaps in ww1 more that america ever did

  • @Adonnus100 . That may be overstating it a bit, even though New Zealand was in it from start to finish and for its size made a huge contribution. American involvement at the end did help the outcome.

  • @Adonnus100 Lets do a little math here.

New Zealand in the 4 years it was involved in the war contributed around 120,000 men to the war effort and a little under 70,000 became casualties (18,500 of which were killed). All that in 4 YEARS

America was only in the war for 1 year and 7 months, in that time they contributed 4,355,000 men to the war, with 323,018 men becoming casualties (116,516 of which were killed) All that in 1 year 7 months!

So who contributed more to the Allied Victory in WW1?

  • @thetruecardigankid I'm not sure what you're trying to say. New Zealand only had a population of 1 million people in 1914. They contributed more troops as a percentage of their population and lost more. America was an industrialized nation which could afford to mobilize troops faster. But it was mid-late 1918 before any US troops actually showed up fighting in France. NZ divisions played vital roles defending Rheims in 1918 while US troops simply took huge casualties due to their inexperience.

  • its funny cause thats full speed

  • no im talking about the two wheels that go on the back to help it steer

  • were the wheels on the back they not build them

  • @Kkoga987 I think they did use some Bulldozer parts, and made the rest.

  • @Kkoga987 Only the first Mark had them. Later designs did not need them.

  • the things look far more scary than todays tanks

  • sitting in your trench in a field... quietly, waiting for the enemy to come along,

    then this comes... oh shit

  • ALL HAIL THE PARALLELAGRAM OF DEATH!!!

  • XD its noisy as hell

  • Just once... JUST ONCE... I want to take a ride in one of those old Tanks. British Mark I-V, Renault, Wippett, A7V, I don't care. I just want to be able to compare it to what it was like in an Abrams- and see how spoiled modern soldiers really are first hand!

  • Dear Santa....

  • @Fedro994Q Thanks, that really made me laugh! :) I've often thought about buying some scaffold poles, sheet metal, and an old Rover V8 or (ironically) big Mercedes and seeing what I can come up with. My folks have got a few acres.....Hmmmmm. And they live in France.

  • @thejacalofskaro74 Let's do it dude. :) I'm in. I don't know what I could do, but sure i could help somehow :D It'd be a great project for my history class :D

  • Can you only imagine what the germans would have thought seeing one of those rolling at them let alone a whole row of them? There was absolutely nothing else like it at the time. They must've just about shit their pants.

  • i also like those sopwith camels too!

  • I see it passed in front of Peter Jackson's WW1 Blue Max Movie Pfalz, too!

  • I lold when u flinched at the gunshots haha... I probably would have too though.

  • This is mark 1 male. Pop-outs do not fold in for the travel of train. 2 and 3 were only used in training.

  • lol how many gallons per mile?

  • It is a male tank, two six pounders and what looks like two Lewis guns. The armour was very thin and could easily be breeched by a 303 bullet. Conditions inside where awful, carbon monoxide poisoning, burns from the hot engine - heroic men. They broke down often and at Passchendaele they just sank into the mud.

  • Yay its moving at Full throtle 4-5 MPH yay squeking all the Way !

  • looks like a 40k space marines landraider!!!

  • @vizesgk Where do you think the idea comes from? Or the idea for the soldiers of Krieg, for that matter?

  • @vizesgk i know!

They are in the year 41thousnad and their still using WWI tanks!

  • ha this tank was in dominion tank police brings back memories

  • This is the first tank? am i right. this is the most tank i ever seen when i was a kid but my most favorate tank is only 3 Tiger tank,M1A1 Abrams, and M4 sherman.

  • @ravenhirio . This was not the first tank, it is a mark 4 or 5 I think, but it is a replica of first world war Tank.

  • i dont think thats a replica since you can see rust on it :c

  • Bloody good replica too ! It fooled me i thought it was a real un'

  • wish there was no spectators' heads in the frame..

  • Its a very rude tank, at 0:40 it farts!! Should have some manners.

  • @Alienerd hahahahahahaha

  • This looks like a late war hermaphrodite. If you look closely, you can see the machine gun mounted behind the cannon.

  • @halo07guy2 Haermaphrodite? No, Those only existed as a varient of an MKV (this is an MKIV), were there was a machine gun sponson on one side, and a 6pdr gun on the other. All MKIVs had a machine gun fitted behind the primary armament.

  • How can you NOT like thses videos? Are the still finding WWI UXB's?

  • you say useless, imagine being a soldier in 1916 you may have only seen a horse !! or even a car in your lifetime let alone this thing , the idea caught on !! great to see outside a museum and making noise

  • I'm so sorry I mean no offence but this tank is the worst tank ever it goes 6.5 kph top speed no suspension and no comfort its armour can be penetrated by machine gun fire. It's just sad

  • @Avatar230594 only because the germans developed armor piercing rounds on time. it still was a huge advantage over the germans because there was nothing else like it (unlike WWII where there were other machines to match eachother) the battle of the somme would have been different without the tank

  • @Avatar230594 Avatar it was impregnable to machine gun fire, only later on did the germans create anti-tank rifles to counter them. Yes they are slow and cumbersome, but if used in unison with creeping artillery, close infantry support and air support as the british and commonwealth forces did at the end, breakthroughs were made.

  • @Baldwynmayhem Still I would happily cruise along in a sherman over this hunk of junk any day except kill all sherman tanks day

  • @Avatar230594 I'd be happier with a Tiger I personally lol, couldn't beat the 88 back then mate ;)

  • @Baldwynmayhem I respecty that but Shermans were faster that was all

  • ssaad...a replica...

  • Only the MKI (1916) had the steering wheel attached to the rear. This is a male MkIV tank (1917-18). Very nice to see and hear! Another good reason to visit New Zealand! Nice armoured car too!

  • Big mofo' init?

  • Its a piece of tech 100 years old and in comparison to modern tanks its a go kart but i must admit.. that critter still sends chills up my spine

  • That motherfucker sounds like it goning to fall apart

  • It´s amazing !

This tank is nearly 100 years old and it still works find...

  • It's a replica, so actually it's fairly new.

    @ hasemithut:

The wheels you're thinking of aren't for steering, they're to prevent the tank from getting stuck in deep trenches.

  • @Pzgraf

Thank you...i didnt know what "replica" stands for...^^

  • these were actually modified in the later years of the WW1 as APC's to transport troops because they weren't very practical as battle tanks however by the time they got the them to the battle the troops were usually so nautious and disorientated from noise fumes and vibrations they got cleaned up anyway, Poor Buggers

  • it doesn't have the funny useless steering wheel on the back.

    and its soooo slow

but a masterpiece of engineering considering that it was first of its kind and was constructed almost 100 years ago.

  • @hasemithut When it was contructed it was designed for infatry support so this speed was quite ok..it's problem was that it could easily stuck nearly everywhere :P

  • @Fotistou94 Actually, given the conditions this thing had to fight in, it's an excellent design. Modern tanks would actually perform worse in the Western Theater of WW1 because modern tanks are designed with plains, forests, cities, and deserts in mind. They would perform very poorly in the heavily cratered battlefields of WW1's Western Front compared to this.

  • @hasemithut It didn't need to be fast, its purpose was to roll across No Man's Land without having to fear machine gun fire and being able to act as cover for advancing troops an roll over barbed wire.

  • @hasemithut Its slow because gasoline engines were no where near what they are today.. Considering that the war was a stalemate for many years, any movement at all is a plus.. Remember, the tank was to be a spearhead in conjunction with infantry at its side.. So it only needed to move as fast as walking infantryman.. all in all, an amazing weapon for its time. The Brits do not get enough credit for it...

  • @hasemithut This version is the "Male" the "Female" had the two big wheels at the rear

  • i remember seeing one once

  • Wow.

Now see how scary it would be having that thing coming at you shooting.

Imagine seeing one for the first time ever, While being bombed and shot at from ground troops.

    ..shit.

  • Exactly dude, it makes so much noise.

  • Man.. Those poor guys. Machine guns, barbed wire, gas, tanks.. Not to mention those rotting cesspools they called trenches. Not the best war to be involved in..

  • well at least they likly dident get trench foot

  • i wonder if my great grandpa saw some in his day when he was in the trenches????

  • I know my grand father saw them... he was in every battle the US was involved in in ww1 -- military intelligence officer on the front lines .. how he survived I don't know . 6 battle ribbons

  • damn thats scary :S now i know why germans was scared when they saw these beats coming from the fog

  • looks like a Landraider

  • Landraiders were based on that type of tank.

  • I would have been terrified to have seen one of these coming my way if I was a German. Just the thought of a huge armored thing going over every barrier of no man's land, and no matter what you do, the thing keeps coming at you.

  • Beast!!!

  • i want one of these in my garage

  • @28jul1821

Same here. I want to replace the crappy KIA my parents have.

  • its very slow..........

  • Well, it's better than nothing... Besides, these were the first combat vehicles of their kind - and they were built mainly for breaking through otherwise unpassable fortifications and entrenchments...

  • It woulda been cooler if the battle wasn't supposed to happen...

  • Bellissimo video complimenti 5 *****

Very nice video. Congratulation! 5 Stairs ad in my prefery list!

  • Good to see the KIWI army and airforce keeping up to date ;)

  • Nice Fokker D.VII as well

  • Super!!!! 5+!

  • feel sorry for the germans who saw the tanks and ran. must have been scary to one of those for the first time

  • it would be comparable to the Mayans being attacked by horses and guns for the first time.

Although, the Germans quickly found out that AA guns were fairly effective against the british tanks..

  • where is this ?

  • New Zealand, at Omaka Airfield near the town of Blenheim. (Top of the South Island)

  • @Kahu1958 lol ww1 reanactment in new zealand... whats next an american civil war reanacment in singapore?

  • @xxuncexx Many New Zealanders fought in the first world war, including both my grandfathers, and my great uncle who died in the trenches in europe. It is fitting that we remember them.

  • One thing thats interesting is that the Mark1, when introduced, could go 2 mph. Then there was what was considered to be a HUGE change of the Mark1, (I believe the engine was improved) and it could now go 4 mph. That was considered to be a BIG change for the time.

On the negative side, the main French tank of WWI (I cant remember its name) was very dangerous to be in, ironicly. The design caused the exhust from the engine to pass through the cabin holding the troops before escaping the tank.

  • the main french tank is the ft-17 renault

  • I think he meant the main heavy tank. I know that the schneider and saint chamond wer lumbering deathtraps :-). The FT was *probably* the best tank around then, although I like the LK2. Pity it was never put into production.

  • LK2? As in the German light tank? Sweden bought a couple

  • Man if you were to see and hear that thing coming at you and had never seen one before it is enough to make a person crap their pants. Just the sound it makes with those tracks..

  • that looked like General Grant with the camera

  • This tank is the world's most frightening tank.

  • personally, I'd rather fear the A7V of the Germans, that beast was 8 meters long 3 meters tall and had 12 machineguns with it

  • pufft, the A7V just a big fat slow armored box,

i could imaging it tipping over or getting stuck in a large ditch

the mark 1! now thats a tank!

  • actually any tank of the first world war could fit with that description. I do favour the Mark 1 as well, but I think it would have at least found his equel in the A7V

  • No, the A7V was a completely awful tank. It would nearly always fall over due to its height. This also made it an easy target for enemy field guns. German crews always preferred to use captured British tanks, which proved much more effective.

  • depends on how you use it, the A7V had 6-8 machineguns, and was like a moving fort, though the mark was way more effective in crossing terrrain and clearing barbed wire

  • 6 mgs actually......

  • 1. 1 in front+2 on either flank+1 in the rear= 8mg's. Though they're might have been some modified ones.

    2. this comment is 5 months old, I really feel akward about people who look through comments older than 1 week just so they can reply

  • is that a male or a female

  • I think it is male. Females only had machine guns, this has a couple of heavier guns.

    I may be wrong

  • @Kahu1958 actually you're right it is a male tank!

  • @Kahu1958 its a female. the males had cannons

  • @Kahu1958 yes, its a male

  • @Kahu1958 It's male. On the Female version, the sponsons mounted four Vickers Machine guns, in addition to its hull mounts. The Male variant, carried two 6 lb cannons. The lesser-known 'Hermaphrodite' tank had one of each sponson, which wasn't terribly practical.

  • Male tank, what Kahu1958 says is correct.

  • Yaaay, it really sounds like that while moving ! :-D

  • thats one huge ass tank, are there even any tanks left from WW1 that are original? them were some huge i mean some super huge tanks back then, i mean look the tread goes all the way around the tank lol

  • Apparently theres 2 left.

  • you know, for the first war to use tanks, that tank was pretty impressive

  • Fighting in the trenches of WW1 in europe

  • what would scare the shit out of me in 1917

  • nice... but that planes... still flying. awersome show lol

  • Go freedom tank, Go!

  • Nice re enactment, think the MK1 was a lot smokier engined even noisier brute, engines burnt lots of oil then (no valve stem seals etc), cracking replica also of RR and triplane, good clip thanks!.

  • the name tank was given to them becuase the soilders said it sounded/looked like an water tank on traks and hence how it got the name

  • Actually it was given the name 'tank' because it was kept secret from everyone. The people building it were told they were basically building big water tanks and water tank was a code name.

"In order to conceal the purpose of these first armored fighting vehicles, they called them "water tanks." This code name has stuck despite early efforts to change the name to "combat car" or "assault carriage.""

  • you would be running away if it was firing at you though...

  • Imagine you being a German in WW1. You look up one morning and see that beast coming at you

  • Its pretty good nice vid! awesome tank!

  • Thank You. It is awesome to see in real life. A deadly Beast for it's time.

  • damn, thats fast!

  • Isn't this Peter Jackson's [yes, THAT Peter Jackson] tank? I heard he converted a caterpillar tractor to make it. The sides are wood apparently.

  • Yes it was made by Peter Jacksons team. Not sure what is is made of but it looks real fom right up close.

  • Squeaky.

  • oau! nu credeam ca o sa mai vad unul mergand

  • good

  • its a boy ^^

  • amazing how it still works!

  • erm.. it is a REPLICA! of course it still works; its only 3 or 4 years old!

  • if it's a replica then its a 100% rebuild. But there are real original ones running in the world.

  • what wossys blocking there ears xD

  • Definently would not have wanted to be a WW1 tanker. They had to deal with going deaf from all the noise, inhaling all the smoke, burns, losing their vision, and whatnot. Very well made replica, nice battle scene, good video!

  • HAHAH JUST IMAGINE.. early 1900s.. probably the largest thing youve seen is a horse on your farm before the war.. that sound probably would have been enough

  • but i wonder, just how thick it's armor really was back in ww1. ww2 is i know, but not ww1

  • 8mm on the sides, thick enough to withstand small arms fire. Later versions had thicker armor to withstand anti tank rifles of the time.

  • wow this is pretty sick wish i was there would have been awsome

  • That is SO cool! *two thumbs up*

  • This is like the coolest tank ever.

  • EDIT:

Sorry I accidentally hit enter while I was in the middle of tweaking my last comment. That's why the end of one of the sentences is missing.

  • Remembering that the tank was developed in secret, and the German soldiers who first saw this coming towards them had absolutely no idea what it was, this must have been pretty scary!

BTW what sort of engine has thHave they made any attempt to copy the original engine, or just stuck a modern power plant in?

  • I don't think they copied the originl engine, just used an old Bulldozer.

  • The project was disguised and named as if they were making giant mobile water tanks, and the name tank stuck.

  • World War One reinactments that is so cool!

  • Is this at that place in Canada? If I ever decide to travel across country again, I must go there!

    WW1 Historian.

  • No, it is in New Zealand.

  • Is it at a museum or an annuel event?

  • lol, man that thing sounds like some of the super old cat's I worked around at the coal-mines with the tracks clinking'

  • WHERE WAS THE MUD ? run a bull dozer around the arena first next time to dig it all up, the it will be more realistic ! and tell some of them to die as no one got hit, americans are like action man all of them ! lol

  • wow.. is that an origial tank from WWI?

  • Not an original but a very good replica

  • I doubt there would be any original operational tanks left, Battle damaged tanks, Rusted tanks, artillery struck tanks, all are in museums, and the odd one or two still buried in mud from a forgotten battlefield that are yet to be discovered. But still, owning even a replica would make my day :)

  • Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset, UK had a working Mk V up until about a week ago - I saw a news item showing it being driven onto a lorry bound for London. I believe it is the only working original British WWI tank in the world. Apparently there are still quite a few French Renault FT17s running though.

  • Thanks for telling me. I'll look that up :D

  • I plan to get a 1/35 scale model of one of these and convert it to an rc model. Emhar produce a MK IV Male and Female, so I'll start with those.

  • 3 mph rofl

  • Yes but that was enough to scare the germans in WWI. At Cambrai the tanks were the main reason the allies penetrated the german lines so easily.

  • big :P

  • Hell..I know what I want for Christmas now. But its going to be a bitch to wrap.

  • A bicycle ?

  • @hxcjeff

Just put a bow on it.

  • really impressive, they are still terrifying war machines even compared to recent models...great vid ;)

  • impreesive tank no doubt, i think we have one in ireland possibly.most likely given to us by the british . good video

  • That tank would have scared the hell out of you back in it's day rumbling and rattling towards you in no mans land! I can see it's shock value in battle. Great footage!

  • haha looks sad compared to tanks today

  • That tank could own a M1A2 Abrams anyday =P

  • Nah, this Mk IV tank is only armed with two 6 pdr (56mm) naval guns, has a top speed of about 8kp/h and armour of steel 8mm thick. The abrams tank has a 120mm main gun, a top speed of about 65kp/h and has Chobham composite armour. Even 100 Mk IV's don't stand a chance against 3 Abrams tanks.

  • Yes and the tanks made in 2070 will easilt take on 100's of Abrams tanks. It is stupid to compare weapons of different eras.
