@ManFromNothing Depends on what you're using the pickup for. I like the Screamin' Demon, but I prefer the Holy Diver. I don't think one is automatically better than the other.
@jmdb1994 Both manufacturers have their strengths. It really depends on lots of factors: the tone you are going for, your gear, and your budget! I have BKs in all of my guitars, but I realize not everyone can afford to do that. There are a few DiMarzios that I really like, too.
Are you sure? I know that it was inspired at sound of Vivian Campbell that used Di Marzio Super Distortion pick up.In effect this sound is very similar while I know that JB ispired the "Rebel Yell" model.Hi
@SEBANO1974 I've direct compared an ORIGINAL Duncan JB, before the base plates were even stamped, against the Alnico Holy Diver in that same guitar. They are very similar. Nailbomb/Cold Sweat = classic DiMarzio type of tone (but better). Holy Diver = classic Duncan type of tone.
If you look my video you can note that I use Seymour D. sh-14.You find that pick up has similarities to the Holy Diver because I find the sh-14 a valid bases of departure.
Thank you.Actually I have a set in mahogany guitars and I have heard that this can play dark in the mid frequency with Holy Diver.I have heard Cold Sweat and I don't like it because it seems a little chilly down.Hi
Hi.I'm undecided between the Bare knuckle VHII and Holy Diver..What are the differences more obvious between these two pick up.Note I like the brown sound like Van Halen but I most play metal. Thanks
@SEBANO1974 The VHII is a bit brighter than the Holy Diver, and you have to fight it a bit more to get the same level of push as the HD. The HD has more output and will push your amp a bit harder. Both are amazing pickups, however, but if you have a bright guitar, a Holy Diver or Cold Sweat is a better option than the VHII.
@TwilightOdyssey Sorry man I just don't know what everyone means when they say "aggressive" but I love warm tones and warm leads. In most cases I'll use the neck pickup for almost everything. I'm thinking about getting a Les Paul (all mahogany) but I'll either be swapping the pups out for some Bare Knuckle's or some Alnico II Pro's. Which would you recommend from the Bare Knuckle range?
@klummster88 I would term aggressive as meaning it has extra push in the high frequencies and will also drive an amp into crunch/distortion with more ease than an Alnico pickup. I don't know what country you live in, but here in the US, the BKs are about double the price of the Duncans, so that might settle your decision right there. If the guitar is ALL mahog, like you are saying -- I'm guessing mahog body/neck and a rosewood fingerboard -- you will probably want something (more)
@TwilightOdyssey ... that will compliment that already dark tone. I would say Riff Raffs are a good start; you can check out my Riff Raff clips for comparison.
@TwilightOdyssey i had the ltd one its junk i bought broke 20 and striped paint down and the cheaper lower grade wood on the ltd is so sad litterly 4 pieces of wood glued together, not on soli piece of mahogany sad
Hey there:) I'm considering putting a Holy Diver or a Nailbomb in the bridge of my HSS for power metal, wich of the two do you think fits most?:p Nice playing btw:)
im thinkin of buyin a pair of bareknuckle pickups, but i dont know with 1 tho, im lookin for a humbucker pickup thats hot and dynamic but i dont want to sound too eddie van halen, i wanna find my own sound, can any of you guys help me out pleaze :) it could rele help me alot thx
Depending on what your amp is and what type of sound you're going for, you should check out the Riff Raff (I have some RR vids up here someplace) and the Rebel Yell!
I noticed that in the photos on the ESP site both the M1 & the LTD version of this guitar have a curved edge on the body like yours, yet the LTD version i've seen in videos has a pretty flat edge & the body looks thicker than in the photo. I don't really like that about the LTD. Not only that, but in the photo the LTD looks like the yellow fades less at the edge of the body, but when you see it in Youtube vids you can see the edge fades almost to white even more so than this one. Wonder why?
Cheers! I listen to all sorts of stuff; as far as guitar music goes, a lot of what you would call melodic metal. My main influences are Lynch, Akira Takasaki, Criss Oliva, Dave Mustaine, Warren DeMartini.

@SEBANO1974 A solid mahog guitar with set neck can, indeed, be dark sounding. The VHII will add some much needed snap to that setup!

@rocksully Do you have an orginal, ceramic Holy Diver, or one of the new Alnico ones. Amp/cab selection has a lot to do with it, too ...
TwilightOdyssey 1 year ago
@TwilightOdyssey Do ceramic magnets generally give pickups a warmer sound? Or do Alnico magnets do that?
klummster88 1 year ago
@klummster88 Generally, ceramic pups give you a more aggressive tone, but there is a lot going on besides just the pickups, of course.

Very true. The main thing is that you learn so much faster with a good teacher.
southpaw1969 4 years ago
not necessarily. all a teacher can do is show you how they do it, and as we all know not everyone plays the same.
PooPoo2U 4 years ago
A good teacher teaches you music theory. Music is the same as a language, you need to know how it works before you can express yourself fluently.
A quote from Billy Sheehan...."You need to know the rules before you can break them."

They are not too disimilar from each other. The Cold Sweat will have more push on tap, as well as tighter bass.
I think that the CS would work really well in the M1.
