Totally different type of reaction - mine has nothing to do with climate. I just read the newspaper, had seen this name before but I never realised it. Yvo de Boer was a classmate ... we did the same social study in the Hague from 1975-1979. It was great to see him, many years later, but still recognise 'the boy' from then :)
I think it is important to understand their proof of man made global warming. There is no direct proof an increase of 100 ppm in CO2 has any effect on temp. Fact is an increase of 100 ppm CO2 has a no effect on temperature in the lab, none! You need to increase CO2 to about 200,000 ppm in the lab to see a 3 degree C change. Global warming nuts then say, well the lab is not fair because CO2 is 50,000 feet of atmosphere.
So there are some theories based on an idea of layers in 50,000 feet that tries to prove a 100ppm increase in CO2 increase temp a few tenths of one degree F. A few degrees F is an insignificant increase much less proof of man made global warming so the nuts say well CO2 has an amplifying effect and then they rely on flawed global warming models which are grossly positive lookback biased so of course they are going to show an amplifying effect from a small amount of CO2 as they are built to do
Warmer temperatures do not mean the end of the world. If you take a look at the GISP (Greenland Ice Sheet Project) ice core the temp was 1 degree C higher 1000 years ago then the Anasazis Indians thrived in Americas southwest from 850 ad to 1250 ad as the southwest was much wetter and the Vikings were able to plant crops, then 2000 years ago it was 2 degree C higher when the Roman empire was doing pretty good. Last it was 3 degree C higher 3300 years ago but this did not stop the Jewish exodus.
The polar bears survived all these warming periods. It is true in the last 800 years the northern hemisphere temp has been fairly flat with an upward turn the last 100 years but the last 800 years have been the exception as the other 9000 years of records show 100s of temperature changes varying as much a 3 degrees C in a couple 100 years. Note the data from the southern hemisphere (Vostok) shows something different as it shows 3 major temp changes by 2.5 degree C over the same last 800 years
Phil Jones director of the U.K.'s University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit said "That the world is warming is based on a range of sources: not only temperature records but other indicators such as sea level rise, glacier retreat and less Arctic sea ice," he said. That is their proof, that is all they have.
No, what those things do prove is natural warming and cooling is happening like it always has for 100,000s of years, it does not prove a few 100 ppm increase on CO2 has any effect on temp. In the lab there is no effect, none! Their proof is these incomplete models that claim there is amplifying effect over time but their models cant predict tomorrow much less a 100 yrs from now as their worry shows in these emails as the data shows the earth cooling and their models are being exposed as wrong.
