It's amazing, the technique Satriani has... truly amazing, and oddly matched by such a gently, unassuming personality. He's never that much on my radar though and I think it is because the emotional/spiritual content or feel of his music doesn't resonate with me. I just don't feel what he is doing. It can wow me, but I can't really feel it deeply, like with Jimi or Stevie Ray. Also Vai has more resonance with me that way. But much respect, he is great.

Spinal Tap did go on tour for a while, releasled several concert DVDs, have played numerous tribute concerts including the one for Freddie Mercury (SP?) in the early 90's, and have put out a couple albums that have nothing to do with the movie...so in that sense they are not so much a "Not Real Band".
