As a support dude I stood next to the 11B's, shot the same weapons, jumped out of the same planes, and then went to my little office and did my job. The USA Armed Forces has the ultimate capability to plan and attack an air or ground combat war, or dispatch for rescue and humanitarian relief. Less than 10% of the Taliban are even Afghani. The other 90% are foreigners, mostly from Pakistan, but also from places like Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, or Indonesia.
That is how it was from the very beginning. The Taliban actually invaded Afghanistan from Pakistan after the war with the USSR and took over the whole country. Pakistan is where the real problems are with this war, not Afghanistan.

If an occupying force went into my town, searched every house, threatened to kill me if I didn't cooperate, and then started fighting some big battle in my village, the first thing I would do is grab my rifle and shoot every foreign son of bitch I could find. I agree with what you are saying. It's a VERY difficult task we have ahead of us. But I don't think you understand. Every Afghan killed by foreign troops outweighs a thousand Afghans killed by Militants. There is a serious complacency in the targeting of airstrikes by coalition forces to the point where almost as many Afghans have been killed by our airstrikes as by militant actions. We are losing this war, and it's because we run around like john wayne.
They aren't fighting the Afghan people dude. They are fighting the Taliban, and Al Qaeda. The terrorists tend to use local villages as bases, and also steal the young men and force them to fight for them. They have to suspect everyone.
And many local men voluntarily join the taliban. They do forcibly recruit, but that that often. They know the war is about hearts and minds and they're careful not to tread on the Afghans. You fail to realize that oftentimes fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda means fighting the afghans. Suspecting everyone and blowing everything up is going to kill the "terrorists" but also a shit ton of Afghans. I can't believe we're having this debate 8 years into the conflict....this is old news people........
The taliban recruiting grounds are the madrasah in Pakistan. The influx of indoctrinated Pakistani or nationalist Pashtun is something the taliban thrive on.
I have had the privilege of serving with the 173 AB in 2007 as a ISAF liason officer. These guys are professional, hardcore and very diplomatic towards the local people.

173RD combat brigade was is the Army's first to deploy along with all the other air borne brigades.
No other infantry can be used like a air brigade combat team .These soldiers train in italy on jungle operations ,night raids, ect ect .
So for someone to say Inantry in army cant compete are wrong .

Meh, some high ranking generals still dismiss special forces as "the only thing special about them is that they believe their own pressclippings". I wouldn't go nearly that far criticizing them but some of that criticism is warranted because some of those soldiers have egos so big they think they're infallible but others just describe themselves as "military" & shock their families & friends when they learn that they were in some elite military unit.

The USA Armed Forces has the ultimate capability to plan and attack an air or ground combat war, or dispatch for rescue and humanitarian relief. The British Army is not the best in the world for the mere fact that they could not defend nor protect their own country during the Second World War as they had to call on the Russians and Americans for help.

Less than 10% of the Taliban are even Afghani. The other 90% are foreigners, mostly from Pakistan, but also from places like Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, or Indonesia.
That is how it was from the very beginning. The Taliban actually invaded Afghanistan from Pakistan after the war with the USSR and took over the whole country. Pakistan is where the real problems are with this war, not Afghanistan.
My Persian friend Wahid from North Eastern Afghanistan told me the whole history.

If an occupying force went into my town, searched every house, threatened to kill me if I didn't cooperate, and then started fighting some big battle in my village, the first thing I would do is grab my rifle and shoot every foreign son of bitch I could find. It's only natural to want to defend your home and family and it's very easy to see the foreign occupiers as "bad". Thus, making death threats incites hatred and anger instead of fear. They're not afraid, they're pissed as fuck!

Which we did by ruling and invading their country. Justified or not, the way we're handling this war is terrible. Like I said before, running around like a cowboy is great and all, but is very detrimental to the goals we are trying to accomplish.
Ironically US presence in the middle east was specifically for rooting out terrorism, but has instead caused a ten fold increase in terrorism. The reason so many people are dying is because we unified the enemies of the united states under one banner.

I agree with what you are saying. It's a VERY difficult task we have ahead of us. But I don't think you understand. Every Afghan killed by foreign troops outweighs a thousand Afghans killed by Militants. There is a serious complacency in the targeting of airstrikes by coalition forces to the point where almost as many Afghans have been killed by our airstrikes as by militant actions. We are losing this war, and it's because we run around like john wayne.

The taliban recruiting grounds are the madrasah in Pakistan. The influx of indoctrinated Pakistani or nationalist Pashtun is something the taliban thrive on.
I have had the privilege of serving with the 173 AB in 2007 as a ISAF liason officer. These guys are professional, hardcore and very diplomatic towards the local people.

I'm not saying this is a real war. Fighting in Afghanistan is far heavier than fighting in Iraq. I'm SAYING that we never declared war on Afghanistan. We are there looking for Al Qaeda, fighting the Taliban, and trying to rid the world of Islamic extremist rats.
