  • He says that he makes alot of money from his church so he gives alot, but because he makes alot it doensn't count for much. He is devaluing the gift of the giver based on their financial postions. This is wrong. God looks at the attitude when we give, not how much we do or don't have. He should be teaching people how to make the same money he is instead of telling them to stay in poverty. Deliberatly putting yourself in poverty is not of God.

  • @Smartguy561

"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

If we have more than we need, of course we should give to those who are in need.

  • @Smartguy561 I agree with you, that God seeks the heart more than what is actually being given. However, I don't believe Piper is telling us to stay in poverty; you cannot judge on this clip alone. All throughout his many sermons, he is telling us that the Bible warns us of what wealth could do to the heart. Yes, there are some in good financial positions who do give charitably with compassionate hearts, but many times, this is not the case. Money has the tendency to corrupt the heart..

  • @Smartguy561 And that is why Christ tells us in Matthew 6:24 that "[we] cannot serve both God and money" because if we try to serve both, we'll "either ... hate the one and love the other, or [we] will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Piper is just trying to relay to us that we should be careful.

  • it didn't come from prosperity.

  • From where in scripture is John Piper reading? Thank you in advance for letting me know.

  • It's so true.
