@Stryker1999 I just bought the '08 off an eBay American seller - actually bought new but they sent me the b stock by mistake. The encoders weren't working properly (go up and down instead when turning only down for e.g.). Checked with DSI about the serial number and the keyboard was more than 3 years old. I'd be very careful when purposely buyin b-stock - and the new stock doesn't come in original packaging. Just for the tip.
By the way, ebay does have a few qualified sellers of the keyboard and module, and they sometimes offer good sales and decent prices on B-Specs and demo units.
0:41 Magnificent!!!! I imagine being whisked away on ELO's starship....Reminds me of their 1981 album "Time" that featured the mighty Oberheim OB-Xa ~_^
i think it's easy to do the brassy sound of Steve wonder and Toto with that kind of keyboard, at this point it's far better than any digital or software emulation i realy need to buy it.
@GV1UK Dude, I'm in the exact same boat with you. I love them both, but I've wanted a real analog for many years. Been hesitating on this for a long time, and now prices on Andromedas are just ridiculous. This is about as good, and comes with a warranty!
you can do with Prophet drum machine patterns [4x16 step sequencer] and drum sounds. Personally I own an Evolver desktop, and it is such an amazing synth!

i'm actually a little dissapointed. while it's damn good sounding, i havn't heard anything my korg ms-2000 or alesis ion can't do... (at least not together!). although... the ion is my ace in the hole. the ms2000 is just meh... infact it's on ebay now... hope it sells!
couldnt agree more. When I look around my studio and admire my analog synths, I always forget I have a Virus TI parked infront of me. But I consider it an unstable computer, not an actual instrument.
The Virus can deliver, but put almost any analog synth next to it, and its just not that fun to play with anymore.
What's the name of that knob you always seem to be tweaking in the middle of the synth during some patches? I'm considering getting Native Instrument's Prophet-53 VST and would like to toy with it too :)
The unison button, in mono mode, causes all eight voices to sound on a single note, creating a really fat sound. Otherwise you can play a single note in poly mode, but only one voice will sound.
Yes, technically the Prophet is bi-timbral, if you split up the eight voices. My mistake - I tend to think of it as monotimbral since you can't assign A and B to receive on different MIDI channels, such as is typically done when doing MIDI sequencing.
Thanks.... presets, yes, except any patches in these vids with a "W" at the end are ones created by me, or else were presets that were heavily edited.
If all this is done onboard by the Prophet '08, must be the single most versitile analogue synth I've ever seen by a fair margin. sounds classic too...reminds me of so many signature Moog and ARP sounds with all the warmth and yet with insane clarity...makes me want one!
I tried both and bought the Prophet - I totally love this synth! You should all check out the Waldorf Blofeld - £345 and one hell of a piece of kit. Got me one of those bad boys too and I am having no sleep as a result of not being able to tear myself away from all this sonic fun.
I think sweetwater has a deal where you can get, the p08, blofeld, moog lp, and virus snow, and a midi controller, and stands and a mixer etc. all for like under 7000, is that a good deal?
Upon further reflection I've realized the Prophet 08 has a "hotter" sound while the Andromedas sound is classier and bigger. But the fattest sound? That would be the voyager.
It seems that it is great for gentle sounds, but for creating strange sounds and chaos, the Evolvers seem the only way... I am slowly leaning towards their raw sound instead...
That's more attributable to my playing style than anything. I am working on a couple of videos that feature lots of knob-twisting insanity - more chaotic stuff for those who desire such approaches.
The keyboard action is surprisingly good... It has aftertouch, which can be routed all over the place (which is very cool), and yes, there's a transpose setting in the global menu to take it +/- 12 semitones (in addition to octave transpose capability.

@stryker1999 I'm saving for the prophet as we speak, I'm just running out of space. Do they make a rack mounted version?
GV1UK 8 months ago
@GV1UK They do indeed! Nicely priced, usually. I'm debating on which to buy too, as I have a few keyboards myself.

lol i 100% agree with you...
You know at first i was impressed by the flexibility of the VIRUS TI....but you know, the's nothing like the analog texture.
Have a nice day

How could you possible hear the difference between analog and digital on youtube?
karimnn 2 years ago
i tryed both keyboard at my local music store...trust me, there's a difference!
JDVbeats 2 years ago
There's a little something called listening carefully. You should try it, and then you'll hear the difference.
Cable3999 2 years ago
If the difference are so minute, I don't think it is worth paying the difference; catch my drift? I would expect to hear a huge difference.

can this synth switch between polyphonic and monophonic?

yes, there's a unison button that throws it into mono mode

why can't you just hit one note? is there a difference in tone?

Hi again, KBW,
How would you compare this to the Ti you got there?
skyemac8 3 years ago
Completely different animals. Prophet is mono-timbral, analog, no effects. TI is 16-part multi-timbral, digital, and full of effects.
keybdwizrd 3 years ago
Isn't the Prophet 08 BI-timbral?
You got the A and B to make different sounds on each, and then you can split or layer them.
Robbinsffxi 3 years ago
Yes, technically the Prophet is bi-timbral, if you split up the eight voices. My mistake - I tend to think of it as monotimbral since you can't assign A and B to receive on different MIDI channels, such as is typically done when doing MIDI sequencing.
keybdwizrd 3 years ago
I'm sorry to be uninformed. You used the lexicons presets or
your own for the P-08?
skyemac8 3 years ago
I typically tweak the presets on the Lexicon, which is easy enough to do with the front panel knobs.
keybdwizrd 3 years ago
that stereo horns preset is very cool
killanator21 3 years ago

sKitsOo88 3 years ago
I think I have nine at present, but I only use four or five at any given point.

My knees become week when I listen to this baby; a pity that there's no reverb/USB but otherwise it's incredible.
A shame that it costs 800 USD more here in Sweden...otherwise it would by it immediately! :-)
Thanks for the great demos!
