I love the way he looks at her. He's like "Who the hell are we talking about here?!" Lol. And she's like "Uh....shit....Ms...Ingram...right...no...?"
When i first saw the trailer for this movie i wasn't interested but i decided WTH leh me just watch it and now i'm hooked really a great movie. (never saw the other adaptions though i think i'll look into that)
you forget that in that period, physical touch was the big no-no! kids were raised up to think it was forbidden, and that proper behavior was the most important sign of a good person.
I find it fascinating what a whole society (and I suspect most of the European societies where like that) could indoctrinate people with!
and btw, have you seen michael fassbender in anything else? it's mindbogglingly how sexual the man is.. or rather, acts :-)
even in X-Men is hard to watch him and not think sex
i love this movie to death. I just didnt get what kinda stare back Mia/Jane was giving him. When Rochester said you transfix me quite she should have seemed intrigued somewhat but she looked scared or like wtf? and when he said what he said at the end she just looked confused lol just because after in the next scene she is smiling to herself so obvs she knows there is something there btw them. so it didnt add up to me. I guess im just reading to into it lol
@Moldbreaker This version is wonderfully intoxicating isnt it :). I think Mia/Jane was looking at him like that because he has purposly confused her into thinking that he is talking about Ms. Ingram.. when infact he is talking about her. He has confused her. She knows he is being forward with her and in her private thoughts she likes it. But she is confused as to why he seems to pursue her and then flaunt Ms.Ingram around.
Dude, I've replayed this part more times than I can count. Dude's str8 up fucking her with his eyes. His dialogue is persistently laced with sexual innuendos; I was going crazy with sexual frustration watching this movie....LOL
I don't like this movie so much... I mean. all the time during the film it's like I could see the script from which they're reading their part... their voice is all the same, without emotion... feels like hearing machines talking. It's like there's no emotion, just lines that they say without really thinking about what they're talking about.
Esse filme é horrível!! Acabaram com a beleza do livro!! A serie é um milhão de vezes melhor!! Li o livro mais de 10x e fiquei triste com o que fizeram com o filme...Ficou super sem graça, eu quase não aguentava assistir todo. Esperava coisa melhor, realmente!
It's funny how Mr.R would just assume that Jane would know that it is her that he was talking about. Really, after flirting with Miss. Ingram so conspicuously?
I must say, Michael Fassbender captured the essence of Edward really well, but I think Mia lacked passion, or at least the fire in her eyes. Because Jane may be plain on the outset but it is through her eyes that you could sense her strength, and unfortunately I couldn't feel that from Mia.
@eidothea Agreed about Michael's version of Mr. R. I really think he did a great with what he was given, however, who screen tested these two together?! Jane and Mr. R NEED chemistry and these two don't have it! I would have liked to see Michael with someone else, because I think he could have really provided a sensational performance if he was playing off a stronger scene partner. Still it makes me appreciate Toby and Ruth in 2006 version all the more!
Just to clearify, I am a girl. DoctorMailwoman just sounds weird. Anyhoo, I thought that Mr. Rochester was supposed to be "an ugly man", as is often repeated in the book. But this man is GORGEOUS! His eyes, his face, the contours of his body... *Sigh* I would do whatever he told me to do...
Honestly I don't know how Jane controls herself when Edward is like inches away from her face. I would've been like "Ah, screw Ingram!! Take me now!!"
Oddly enough this is actually how i imagined conversations between jane and rochester although timothy dalton and toby stephens did a great job. But Michael Fassbenders eyes are brilliant.
His eyes are absolutely gorgeous and his voice is ridiculously hot...
I know Mr. Rochester is actually supposed to be ugly, but he was a great choice. Despite being handsome, and I find that he mirrors what I read him as when reading Jane Eyre. I also feel that Mia is the best portrayal of her character ever! And I know people think that he acts without emotion, but I could not disagree more... It's something in his facial expressions... Love this movie so much! <3
I think Rochester is supposed to be ok looking, not ugly, but not handsome. I think in the book it mentions something about him having an appealing quality, though I can't remember too well since I haven't read the book in a long time. =O But I agree with you; his eyes are gorgeous! =D
I love when she mentions Blanche and he looks at her like, "How the hell can I get you to understand that YOU ARE THE ONE I LOVE!!!" Seriously I would have gotten the memo at first freaking sight!!!!
I don't think I've ever seen this scene done so well in any version in terms of script, but Michael fassbender is just so rigid and lifeless. Toby Stephens had vulnerability, you can pity him as Jane does, and he seemed thoughtful, romantic and passionate, Fassbender just creeps me out. Perhaps it's becuse I'm reminded of that awful film FishTank.
@yookiedookie I know. This movie was beautiful and much more tasteful and clean than the 2006 one with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens, but I like the acting better in that one. There were times where Toby Stephens was a little too passionate. :P This one actually showed Jane's reasons for leaving him better. In the 2006 one, you don't really get that unless you know before you see it because you've read the book.
Haha! And yeah, that could be a reason why Michael Fassbender creeps you out! :)
@robynn0405 It's nice to hear the opinion of someone who's read the book, and clearly doesn't like the "sexed- up-ness" of the 2006 version. I'll definitely be going to see this one when it comes to the UK now, thanks for convincing me. :) Mia Wasikowska looks like a good strong, independent Jane, whilst still being believable, and young enough.
@yookiedookie Hahaha! It's good to know that I'm not the only person out there who doesn't like the "sexed-up-ness" version. Haha! And I like how you put that. :)
You mean it hasn't been released in the UK yet? That kind of surprises me. I thought that would be one of the first places it would come out. . . :P
And your welcome! She is a pretty good Jane. Kind of weird to see her as Jane at first though. And it's really confusing at first. You'll see what I mean when you see it.
@robynn0405 Thanks :). Yeah I'm really surprised, I think we have to wait till September in the UK :(. Ohh you've intrigued me now, I've read that it starts from where she's just left Thornfield, and carries on in flash backs, which could be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing the cinematography, I'm hoping Cary Fukunaga has worked with flaring of the lens etc.
@yookiedookie That sucks! I'm sorry! :\ The beginning was actually kind of confusing. :P Especially if you've never read the book or seen other movies of Jane Eyre. And St. John is the biggest jerk! :P You just want to punch him! But that just makes Mr. Rochester seem even sweeter. :) And they're more respectful toward Jane in this one than they were in the 2006 one, too.
@robynn0405 Haha. Yeah, I can imagine. I know what you mean, St.John's such a fool for not marrying Rosamond Oliver. Cool, I'm looking forward to seeing it :).
@yookiedookie No, actually. I mean, he is, but Rosamond Oliver isn't even in this movie. :P Which I thought was a relief and a disappointment at the same time. Because I've never really been fond of that whole part with St. John. Hahaha! I kind of just want to get that part over with so there's more Mr. Rochester! :D Hahaha! St. John's just a jerk! He's the most disrespectful! Everyone else respects her and treats her better but he's just horrible! >:P
Is there abottle that one can store his voice in , like those bottles of perfume or air de France? It doesn't matter how tired I am or how much I have to work, such voice, if sensible and kind, could always revive me, make me pause and thank God that he has created man. I never thought, I'd say that. let alone feel it. Wow, I have a lot to be thankful for and being a woman is one of them :X
