But at the same time, I am in doubt about it's validity and broader application since it seems to have been little outdated.. done in 1998 or before and since it doesn't provide clear information on where the surveys were done. To me, it seems like the surveys were done in slums in Delhi where you would obviously find more cases of incest than in upper middle class.
There are more studies out there which are more recent. The same google search brings up a website called the-south-asian dotcom which talks about similar statistics, and it also mentions how the movie Monsoon Wedding which depicted incest in an upper class family was scoffed at because that is the attitude towards it in India --> Denial. No one wants to deal with it or even admit it exists. Admitting there's a problem is the first step towards fixing it.
