  • "HAMMER OF THE GODS'

  • You mean ledbelly did this song, not led better.

  • @tasomw this is page and plant, but most people don't know that led zeppelin split up and that page and plant came together again. They just know "Led Zeppelin"

  • great song but i believe this is page plant , not really led zeppelin

  • the original was by leadbelly and boy are the 2 songs different from eachother. still both good :)

  • @foxytiger96 Ledbetter did a version but, there is no known original, its a traditional song. likely wasn't even english in origin, but swedish or finnish from centuries ago.

  • @thewhakka if you want totry a dff' version check this out by Odetta, it's wierd

  • What does he say near the end, right after he sings "see saw....." I could never make that part out =0/

    Anyone know?

  • @xeokym See-saw marjory daw

    See-saw knock at my door

  • @arena052 Hey thanx, that's been driving me crazy for YEARS. LOL

    >^.^<

  • This teaches a great lesson, hand over the gold, silver, and your sister AFTER you're freed from the noose. Not before.

  • @Prone2ill LOL. Right on man. Cruel. He takes the silver, bangs the sister's coochie woochie and still hang's him. Maybe if his friends weren't so poor? The hangman's price is high!

  • @Prone2ill its interesting my bro told me in the original version (this is based on a super old folk song) the guy lets him go. two different meanings. I like what led zeppelin did with it

  • Comic Sans is garbage, other than that great vid and song.

  • yeah!~

  • What is the gallows pole?

  • @vinyl2k8 The gallows is where they sent "wanted men" to be hanged.

  • FYI - it's "riding many a mile", not "riding a many mile"

  • Fuck so much good music out there i wish i could listen to it all in a short period of time

  • good

  • good

  • The No Quarter DVD is the best version of this song. Good song, but not released in great audio quality untill then,.

  • there is an hidden underline in this song...it's a song of disillusion and fall on the atcher years...

i think is not just a simple ballad as it sounds like

  • what a jerk he still hanged him! theres a special floor in hell for the ones who do such a thing.....

  • @rockntroopen never trust a hangman

  • led zep 3 is my favouraite album!!(currently!)

  • Supposedly, no one really knows how old this song is, or where it it originates from...I read that it could possibly date back to medieval times????

  • IMO their best song by far. Why do radios hardly play it?? I'll hear it by surprise like every 2-3 yrs ;-(

  • great work on this video, should do this for a living

  • @hemet92544 thanks

  • @hemet92544 thanks

  • interestingly enough.... another song that they put on the map that was not written by them..... this is an old folk song...

  • I can remember driving my Super Beatle VW and listening to this great song! esp. driving a VW

  • @coldshot5555 lmao me to, in the early 80's, my bug had a stinger pipe coming out and up the back end, all my neighbors hated it, i would come home late and all "reeeev reeeeeeev rev rev rev reeeeeeeev rev rev haha

  • Interesting that in the original lyrics as sung by Leadbelly there's no conclusion to the story, we're just left with the question "What did you bring to keep me from the gallows pole?"

  • @glamstarlady I like that lyric conscept... Just don't want to swing on that gallows pole myself...lol

  • @coldshot5555 Haha, neither do I!

  • wat,is,the,gallows,pole,is,je,shagg,nooit,op,durf,je,wel,boodschappen,te,doen

  • wat,is,the,gallows,pole

  • Probablement l'album que j'ai le plus écouté de ma vie. Surtout les trois chansons qui se suivent: Gallows Pole (ici), Tangerine et That's The way. Mes trois favorites!

  • my #1 most favorite Zepplin song........it reminds me of TY and SAM

  • led zep 3 was a brilliant album very under rated

  • This version is great. I realized that I like it almost as much as the studio version, at least to have variety. The Ovation guitar; lower voice of Plant,; additional instruments, wow, it is all so great. Such a breathtaking song.

  • yes the third album is fuckin awesome

  • Epic...

  • Live, recorded, it doesn't matter. Led Zeppelin is like the Dark Angel of rock. (in a good way) Now, the new age stuff is literally only Beat! It's sad they think me, a thirteen year old girl, has the worst music taste ever. I think its the exact opposite. You know those people use voice changers to sound good. I've heard jason Derulo and all those posers live, sadly, and they are soooo bad. x.x

  • @Berrypool001 WELL IF A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL LIKE U CAN APPRECIATE ZEPPELIN MAYBE THERE IS STILL HOPE

  • @Berrypool001 you are the smartest thirteen year old alive

  • @Berrypool001 You should listen to the original version by Leadbelly if you like music without all the fluff. Blues is the beating heart and soul of modern music and guys like Jim Page, Hendrix, Duane Allman, Clapton, and David Gilmour certainly knew and respected this fact. Some of these blues musicians taught themselves (Bukka White, Miss. John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis) and still refined their style beyond what machines make of some modern music. True love, heart, and soul.

  • @crowley188

I totally agree, but those classic artists you mentioned are hardly "modern," haha. They are waayyyy too good to be considered "modern" in today's climate, lol.

  • @mussman717word I wouldn't say too 'good', but certainly far more original and heartfelt. There is plenty of 'good' music, even in the mainstream. There's just too much of the same exact crap. There's skill involved, and sometimes tons of skill. But that doesn't make heartfelt and soulful music people can connect with beyond the simple jingle in the chorus. Musicians today have lost the ARTform involved, they carry the skills, but use them to make simple shit =(

  • @crowley188

    Exactly.

  • @Berrypool001

Thirteen year old girls do have the worst taste ever you douche, you are just one tiny exception.

  • @toby099 LOL YOU MAKE LOL IN RL. XD

Get a life and stop picking fights with people who can kick your ass verbally and physically. kthnxbye :D

  • This is personally my favorite version of Gallows Pole.

So much more soul then the studio recording.

  • guess what ya'll this was originally an American folk song from Appalachia.

  • Ya good old Lead Belly

  • im serous

  • An uncharacteristic song of Zeppelin's... on eof my favorites for sure...

  • @Mohrtek ..it's about giving someone everything you have and that they want from you...and they go and shaft you anyway!

  • can u believe i got extra credit at skool for knowing this song and for knowing zeppelin

  • @irox309 lol are you kidding me ?

  • awesome

  • @irox309 I'd believe it, Led zeppelin is the greatest band ever. My inspiration, your teacher is a wise man

  • Never knew the words, but now i do. Fucking love the song now more than ever! Thats how life is in 2010!!!! Ropert u are the Man!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the Plant-Page version. lisent the first led zeppelin version, its way better, also its an old song song from a blues singer named ledbelly, look for it in youtube

  • i love this song but none of my friends have heard of it

  • you wanna know a secret ? no no i cant tell you

  • aww why not?

  • . . . SHE is swinging on the gallow's pole." Referring to the guy's sister.

  • It is actually "see you swinging from the gallows pole".But no matter what the hangman got he still hung him.Mainly out of enjoyment. This has been one of my fav songs for a while.originated from england as a old traditional. Then a black guy named led belly covered it in the US.And that was the version that led zeppelin heard in the 60's and decided to cover.they made some slight changes to it but still came out as an amazing song.

  • I totally agree. It's one of my very favorite Zep songs. I always loved the dynamics of the song - the way it starts off with just guitar and vocal and continues to build up to a full-on assault. Never heard the Ledbelly version, but I did hear it was orginally an old English folk song.

  • I always thought the line was: ". . . laugh so hard, SHE

  • wow .. thanks a whole lotta love ;) ..

  • not led zeppelin's version, just page and plant. I personally like the whole bands version.

  • this is one of thier less known songs, people dont seem to like allbum 3 beacouse its accoustic. pitifull

  • album 3's my favorite

  • srsly!? ive always thought it was one of their greatest songs.

  • @whitewidow777 yea that's the way if you're going to California to find the tangerine to save you from the gallow's pole during the white summer by the black mountain side. OHH!!

  • =) clever

  • @ledzepp12100

That's odd, Led Zeppelin III is one of my favorite albums of any band. Then, how could one even choose between the first 4?

  • @ledzepp12100 -- folk down there really don't care, really don't care--- but if you go down to the street you better open you eyes.

  • @ledzepp12100 Yeah the Immigrant Song is pretty much the only one from three that's well known. It's really too bad, there are a lot of song to like, especially Since I've Been Loving You, which has some of Robert Plants best vocal work.

  • @ledzepp12100 I think the first 5 albums are all equal... But if I was forced to pick a favorite, I would pick 3. It just sounds so different from all the other stuff...

  • @ledzepp12100 I think it is stupid rule that a song needs heavy electric guitars to be good

  • @ledzepp12100

Led Zep III was poorly received by the critics, who were expecting something like what Physical Graffiti became.

It also didn't seem to sell as fast as the two previous albums..

The band ,to their credit, always stood by it,to a fault, and were hurt by the negative reviews.

To me,a fan of everything they did,III is a favourite indeed, and has long been re-evaluated as one of their very best and a true classic.

Believe me,it has been beloved by millions of people.

  • Damn, I actually kind of like this version better. You can't hear the instruments as well as the album but I like the way he sings it way better here.

  • yeahhh

  • is this the live version?

  • Yes it is, "No quarter" DVD

  • @arena052 then you should have put live in the title dummy

  • @vXvMaNiKvXv You'r retarded if you cant hear that its live.

  • Of course it is dumbass!! Did u not hear the crowds !!!

  • @Murdoc2Dbabe Don't you hear the idiots in the background?

  • This... this song, makes you think so many things.
