@tasomw this is page and plant, but most people don't know that led zeppelin split up and that page and plant came together again. They just know "Led Zeppelin"
@foxytiger96 Ledbetter did a version but, there is no known original, its a traditional song. likely wasn't even english in origin, but swedish or finnish from centuries ago.
@Prone2ill LOL. Right on man. Cruel. He takes the silver, bangs the sister's coochie woochie and still hang's him. Maybe if his friends weren't so poor? The hangman's price is high!
@Prone2ill its interesting my bro told me in the original version (this is based on a super old folk song) the guy lets him go. two different meanings. I like what led zeppelin did with it
@coldshot5555 lmao me to, in the early 80's, my bug had a stinger pipe coming out and up the back end, all my neighbors hated it, i would come home late and all "reeeev reeeeeeev rev rev rev reeeeeeeev rev rev haha
Interesting that in the original lyrics as sung by Leadbelly there's no conclusion to the story, we're just left with the question "What did you bring to keep me from the gallows pole?"
Probablement l'album que j'ai le plus écouté de ma vie. Surtout les trois chansons qui se suivent: Gallows Pole (ici), Tangerine et That's The way. Mes trois favorites!
This version is great. I realized that I like it almost as much as the studio version, at least to have variety. The Ovation guitar; lower voice of Plant,; additional instruments, wow, it is all so great. Such a breathtaking song.
Live, recorded, it doesn't matter. Led Zeppelin is like the Dark Angel of rock. (in a good way) Now, the new age stuff is literally only Beat! It's sad they think me, a thirteen year old girl, has the worst music taste ever. I think its the exact opposite. You know those people use voice changers to sound good. I've heard jason Derulo and all those posers live, sadly, and they are soooo bad. x.x
@Berrypool001 You should listen to the original version by Leadbelly if you like music without all the fluff. Blues is the beating heart and soul of modern music and guys like Jim Page, Hendrix, Duane Allman, Clapton, and David Gilmour certainly knew and respected this fact. Some of these blues musicians taught themselves (Bukka White, Miss. John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis) and still refined their style beyond what machines make of some modern music. True love, heart, and soul.
I totally agree, but those classic artists you mentioned are hardly "modern," haha. They are waayyyy too good to be considered "modern" in today's climate, lol.
@mussman717word I wouldn't say too 'good', but certainly far more original and heartfelt. There is plenty of 'good' music, even in the mainstream. There's just too much of the same exact crap. There's skill involved, and sometimes tons of skill. But that doesn't make heartfelt and soulful music people can connect with beyond the simple jingle in the chorus. Musicians today have lost the ARTform involved, they carry the skills, but use them to make simple shit =(
this is the Plant-Page version. lisent the first led zeppelin version, its way better, also its an old song song from a blues singer named ledbelly, look for it in youtube
It is actually "see you swinging from the gallows pole".But no matter what the hangman got he still hung him.Mainly out of enjoyment. This has been one of my fav songs for a while.originated from england as a old traditional. Then a black guy named led belly covered it in the US.And that was the version that led zeppelin heard in the 60's and decided to cover.they made some slight changes to it but still came out as an amazing song.
I totally agree. It's one of my very favorite Zep songs. I always loved the dynamics of the song - the way it starts off with just guitar and vocal and continues to build up to a full-on assault. Never heard the Ledbelly version, but I did hear it was orginally an old English folk song.
@whitewidow777 yea that's the way if you're going to California to find the tangerine to save you from the gallow's pole during the white summer by the black mountain side. OHH!!
@ledzepp12100 Yeah the Immigrant Song is pretty much the only one from three that's well known. It's really too bad, there are a lot of song to like, especially Since I've Been Loving You, which has some of Robert Plants best vocal work.
@ledzepp12100 I think the first 5 albums are all equal... But if I was forced to pick a favorite, I would pick 3. It just sounds so different from all the other stuff...
Damn, I actually kind of like this version better. You can't hear the instruments as well as the album but I like the way he sings it way better here.

@ledzepp12100
Led Zep III was poorly received by the critics, who were expecting something like what Physical Graffiti became.
It also didn't seem to sell as fast as the two previous albums..
The band ,to their credit, always stood by it,to a fault, and were hurt by the negative reviews.
To me,a fan of everything they did,III is a favourite indeed, and has long been re-evaluated as one of their very best and a true classic.
Believe me,it has been beloved by millions of people.
