good job man, so far the best youtube cover i have seen. and far better than sungha jungs i am sorry to say (to the man before me). but really, bravo.
Lol I agree but some of Hedges tabs are not on the Internet... I've searched 1 hour for Woman of the World and in some tabs manual in some shop in my town...
My point is actually that people should learn to play little bits by ear. It is hard but you can train it and if you keep doing it you'll get better. In many cases just the tuning is enough.
And I totally agree with you... I learned a lot of songs by ear, it makes better musician but you got to admit that Michael Hedges, Andy McKee, Antoine Dufour or Erik Mongrain are virtuoso and their songs are pretty hard to play... It's not everyone who can play percussion guitar by hear XD
Well to be honest I learnt the percussive bit in Drifting by ear (I'm a drummer, might explain something), the tutorial used didn't get it right (as well as little details).
You forgot to add Don Ross to the list, and personally I would add Ewan Dobson too.
I'm not really saying that tabs are bad, they can sure be a help, but your ears have to be in proper working order as well.
However I just find it annoying people asking for tabs everywhere. =D
Yeah I forgot to mention Don Ross! But I don't know Ewan Dobson..
I learned Drifting percussion by ear too however I agree with you that it's annoying that kids always ask for tabs... come on you can find them on the web idiot for such bands like Metallica or etc... Come on in 15 sec I can have Metallica full tabs on web
me and my friend are trying to find tabs for this song. we have found tabs but not as good as this. can you please send me a link. by the way your good.
Wow. I was so impressed that i just thought i had to write a comment. I don't know how to play the guiter, but I can tell you have an excellent technique!
Sungha plays Kaki King's version of the song. It's a bit different. I keep recording this song, but keep trying to improve. I'm just going to listen to this one and enjoy it.
I know this song it tough to get all the timing down, but once you do it flows...
I also wanted to say thanks a bunch, this seems the closest thing on Youtube to Michael Hedges actual performance and that's what I wanted to learn... it's easy to see your fingers on the frets so it helped me out a bunch on learning the song correctly...
I think you're talking about how hedges rolls his left hand down off the strings to give a fast arpeggio sounding almost like flamenco rasgueado. Make a chord shape and instead of just lifting off the chord to change try twisting your wrist and pull down off the fretboard. The idea is to roll your fingers off each string to give a fast rolling arpeggio sequance. Probably not the best explanation but Hedges does it in alot of his tunes and it's a cool technique either way to have in your arsenal.
the part at 1:33 doesn't flow... go back to rootwitch and relearn it. i might put up a version, and slow down the cool parts for ppl. Seeing this tune in August Rush kinda bugged me... inspiring me to get the song nailed.
would you be able to tell me a good site to get hedges tabs, only just discovered him recently, also would you be able to tell me what tunes of his are in DADGAD ? you seem like a fan and might know. thanks alot :)
First of all, I learned the song from the tab at a great Michael Hedges site (see this video description) . This will really help you. Then, like all Hedges' songs, there is a distinct bass line, chords, and melody. Even though the song is strummed, the important bass and melody notes have to stand out. Try to strum the chords while paying special attention to those notes. Those are the most important. I hope that helps.
once you have the tuning it's pretty easy to learn any song. just takes time to perfect it. I find when learning tunes I learn rough version version to get the groove then each time I listen I hear more and translates prety quickly to my fingers. I always learn by ear, it's quicker for me. well done man. did you ever get your voice sorted? (I recall you going on about some voice course. I gave up smoking, it helped immediately)
you have definitely figured out a lot more of the little stuff than i have managed too so killer job meng

Hey that doesn't as hard as I thought it would, but how hard are the harmonics. Yeah great job man, it's one of favs as well...
zenfreestyler 4 years ago
its a difficult song for your right hand more than the right. harmonics arent that bad, just takes practice. this is a pretty good cover.
LordRavenX8 3 years ago
Yes, rhythm with the right hand is more difficult in this piece, & you gotta watch out for timing caz what you think is right maybe not be...
zenfreestyler 3 years ago
wow! this is GREAT!!!!

how do u execute the 32nd notes on 1:09? Its a right hand or left hand duty?
