The Iowa caucus isn't exactly a straw poll; they elect delegates by caucus vote. The delegates are not the RNC delegates that go and vote for the nominee; but these delegates go to a state convention which happens later, and they vote for delegates to go to the RNC.

Iowa Caucus is a non-binding straw poll that sends delegates to the county conventions, who send delegates to the state conv, who send delegates to the RNC. So we get unpledged delegates, technically: Ron-6, Mitt-6, Sant-6, Grinch-4, Gardasil-3 +3 unpledged.
Buuut….Paul supporters stuck around to ensure that they were selected as county delegates…some are saying this paid off. So yes, Ron Won.

The caucus system is no way to nominate a candidate. There is less secrecy in electing and it may not reflect the views of all voters in a state. Primaries are the only way to properly nominate a candidate.

Iowa Caucus is a non-binding straw poll that sends delegates to the county conventions, who send delegates to the state conv, who send delegates to the RNC. So we get unpledged delegates, technically: Ron-6, Mitt-6, Sant-6, Grinch-4, Gardasil-3 +3 unpledged.
Buuut….Paul supporters stuck around to ensure that they were selected as county delegates…some are saying this paid off. So yes, Ron Won.
