Nothing. The lab had finance difficulty and thechef fire Adam without saying to Mac. He's angry because he wants to keep adam. Stella say him that she wants to keep him too but the lab finance problem is very important and that they need the new technologie for work.

I suppose it seems cold because Stella is acting more like an objective scientist than Mac is here. He's all riled up from that phone call... and despite his well-tempered nature, he does have a gigantic ego from authority, which his boss just trampled all over.

Ugh, I hate Stella sometimes. Why does she insist on telling Mac what to do? I know that what she's saying is completely rational and sensible but it's hard to think like that when you see Adam's face when Stella's talking about replacing him with a machine. Poor Adam :(

I don't think she's telling Mac what to do. She's just presenting another side of the argument. It just so happens that, yeah, she makes a lot of sense -- and I think Mac sees that, which is why he listens to her a lot of the time in the first place, even needs her to be his sounding board.
