Patti got screwed over by ALW, and with the money she got from the settlement she made a memorial pool in her back yard..which is very beautiful , ive seen it.
OK so I have to admit that I think Glenn Close is the definitive Norma Desmond, but Patti did an excellent job too. People don't give her enough credit, and ALW is a cunt for doing what he did to her.
Perhaps if she behaved better during the London run, Webber would have found a better way to deal witht he situation. But, yeah, two wrongs don't make a right.
Patti was contracted to star as Norma in 'Sunset Boulevard' in London AND New York in the time around 1993/1994+. The entire cast thought that they'd have a great experience with the show, but with all of ALW's rudeness and pig-headedness, they were miserable. One day, before a show, Patti found out from the media that she had been replaced for the New York run by Glenn Close. She was so devastated that she couldn't even perform that night.
Later on, the news came out about the London cast members being fired and the new New York cast. It took a long while for Patti to recover, a time in which she sued Webber for, I'm assuming, breach of her contract and gained quite a bit of money from him (which was used to contruct an Andrew Lloyd Webber Memorial Pool, apparently).
The story's a bit fuzzy, but I believe those are the basics. Correct me, if I'm wrong, of course. I just wanted to give some background to those who need it.
Well I never liked ALW and this just makes me dislike him more. Patti may be a bit of a diva but what he did to her was downright cruel. Glenn Close is fantastic and she's the only reason why I really like the musical at all, but Patti did NOT deserve that bullcrap.
Oh, I've always thought that ALW was a complete and total, unoriginal idiot. Frankly, the only two of his shows that I can stand are 'Evita' and 'Sunset Boulevard' simply because Patti sang the hell out of each. She and the rest of that London cast were so disgustingly mistreated by him that I have no idea why people didn't take the hint and stop giving him opportunities to work.
Really? The only show of his that I sort of enjoyed was "Phantom", and even THAT got old after a week of listening to it. I agree, there's no originality, his lyrics are cheesy and crappy, and he constantly repeats the same motifs in every song.
Was never sung better.... thrilling.

Well, if the original London cast didn't suck donkey balls, perhaps they'd get more credit.

Kind of ironic... Seeing as how ALW helped start her mainstream career in Evita.

I don't think there was a definitive ND, and if there was one, I doubt it's GC
