Last comment 'there are thousands of galaxies' ........ slightly understated I would say! The latest estimate is there are at least 500 BILLION galaxies ..... our galaxy is average sized and has 200 - 400 BILLION stars

well first there are billions of stars in our milky way and there a billions of galaxies, most of the stars have planetary systems around them and probably moons as well giving you unlimited curiosity in numbers and possibilitys that we we cant even try to conceive.. there is no reason for us to assume that all life is driven by water.. with the size of VY canis majoris it could produce millions or more habital environments for unknown creatures to thrive in a very small region of sky

actually very few stars have planetary systems. most do not. and there IS reason to assume life is driven by water. A. all life on Earth is. B. its, i believe, the second most common compound in the universe. and we dont kno how many galaxies there are (over billions) cuz the diameter of the universe exeeds the light-tavel time of its age (so over 13.7 billion lightyears). so we hav no idea cuz the light hasnt even reached us yet! :-P

possibly. or closer. the only other planet found (outside the solar system) that cld harbor life (at least, i THINK its only) is about 1.2-1.5 times the size of Earth but has an orbit closer than that of Mercury to the Sun cuz its star is a red star. not as much heat and light

That picture they said was the Milky Way was actually Andromeda. Moreover, it's not accurate to the shape class of our galaxy. The Milky Way is a barred-spiral, not a classic spiral like Andromeda.

IC 1101 is 60 Million light years across, whereas the milky way is only 100k light years.

There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy ( a spiral galaxy). However some ellipitical galaxies can have over 400 billion stars. Some estimates I've seen for the total number of galaxies in the observable Universe give the total as at least 100 billion galaxies.
