sooo much hate. always need someone to blame and hold a grudge to. iranians need to get over the cia coup in the 1950s and move on. yet britain was the main country behind that but ther is no marg bar england..?? no marg bar iraq for the war it started etc etc. yet an iranian women does not hav equal inheritance, its easy for a man to take in a 2nd wife and divorce and extremely hard for a women to divorce. marg bar islam. 1979-2nd arab invasion of iran
I lived in Isfahan and Shahin Shahr in '78 and even went to this embassy when we arrived in Tehran. Whereas the Shah was certainly not perfect and suppressed freedom, there were many Iranians that I personally knew there that supported him. That said, these islamic nutjobs they have running the country now are a disaster, both for the friendly iranian people and peace itself. I hope to go back one day and see my old home. I'll always have Iranian friends.
i used to live in Iran until I was 15. I can tell u that we all made jokes of Mullas and even teachers talked against mullas. and you think people in their cars are now scared to talk against mullas??!! no way. I agree that a lot of things are wrong but trust me..people are not scared to talk about mullas in their cars. Shah was a police state and no one could talk against him, that's why people got behind an orgnaized religion (Islam) to fight shah. Shah couldn't kill 40 milion moslems!!
KevinAtucla, you are so sadly mistaken about how deep the tenticals of the mullahs are. In the 80's kids were trained to spy on their parents. Spouses turned each other in for supporting the resistance. People were publically hung to intimidate polictical expression. Iran's mullahs have sucked our blood long enough. We need to be responsible & stand up against them & those that do their bidding. Your vauge memories are not like mine. My father-in-law was in evin jail under the shah for 6 years.
God.. you damn Iranians that always blame everyone for your lack of stenght. Resistance has been an option for 28 years... yet you live with mullahs deciding what you wear. You blame arabs, jews, and America for everything we live with. Only when Iranians accept responsiblity for their government, life, society and failing will we ever be free.
you don't understand. don't be stupid. Iranians have the power to overthrow any government, they did that to allmight Shah who had 100% support of the US. During shah we couldn't even talk politics in our own home, it was a police state supported by the U.S. We don't like the current regime, they are radical. Most Iranians think only radicals can scare away the U.S. to fondle Iranian government. U understand? How would u like if Iran manipulated the U.S. government? u like to be fondeled??
During the Shah people had some room to breath, not much, but certainly political meetings and expression occured. In fact his own army was comprised of some of his strongest opponets. This regime has been more deligent at purging civil service, armies & such to rid themselfs of their opponents. Yes the mullahs have been brutal. But virtually Iranians want freedom, all but the mullahs & their lovers. But ONLY when we accept our role in this government will we be free. So don't be stupid, stupid.
I disagree. When I was 5 years old, there was some light shows and decoration and stuff on the street. I asked my dad what this celebration was about. My mom was in the car too. Dad said it's celebration of Shah coming back, and as soon as he said mosadegh my mom gave him a look, and he stopped talking. now i understand that they were even scared to talk about politics in our own car. Are you kidding me?? Iranians have more freedom now than Shah times. And Shah was the reason for Islamic revolut
Are you really saying that "Iranians have more freedom than during the Shah times"??? You are nuts! Personal freedom is an important gage of a democratic society. Women can no longer choose their dress. Religious minorities would differ with you. Certainly a married woman did not need her husband's permission to travel abroad under the shah. Perhaps your last memory at 5 years old has distorted the truth. The Shah was vile, but he did not dare to go as far as the mullahs.
I wish he had talked about the us embassy issue with iranian people too, and maybe take a look at the CIA documents in the museum, specially on the overthrowing of mosaddeq who was the best hope for a secular democratic regime in Iran, if CIA hadn't done that, probably the islamic revolution would never happen!
I was stopped by a few soldiers in front of embassy wall because I was taking photos of grafitti. But I had no problems with soldiers, they were actually very nice. But anyway, I had to delete photos from my camera:)
This is interesting to now that most of the students who was involved in that hostage did that in a revolutionary and radical movement which they never wanted to have such a consequences. They have confessed that they did wrong. And the painting in the wall of the former US embassy is the point of view of less than 1% Iranians.
All the things that we see now is only political game of conservatives both in US and Iran and I am sorry about that.
They are idiots. If they wanted to kick Americans out... That is their right... but taking hostages is a bitch move. They are little bitches. All they had to do is pack every one up and ship them out on the next plane to Turkey and beyond. When they took hostages, they lost ALL RESPECT.
you know why that happened? its because they did not want to let the usa to put a coup detat like they did before in iran and all over the world and they still doing it like in pakistan......
come on we are busy with life overthere ,nobody cares about does pictures, come on,when we were fighting with iraq and dieing or other situtaion were you people,oh my god,you have more important job to do in iran as reporter, okey, just be honest.thanks.
