  • Priceless...

  • the thing with Wynton, is that he's more of a Classical player, and less so a jazz player, but he's still good

  • That is balderdash! Wynton has made only 16 or 17 classical recordings, while on the other hand he has 38 jazz recordings and the first Pulitzer Prize for Music for a jazz recording, with Grammy's in both genres So, to say "he is more a Classical player and less so a Jazz player" is a naive or nonsensical comment.

  • VERY good....no matter the genre.

  • I love Dexter's music! Discovered him in the movie Round Midnight as a teen and have enjoyed his style ever since.

  • Round midnight is a priceless gem, nothing less.

  • thats cool thats awesome thats how i got into jazz eversince i watch round midnight on hbo a couple of years ago and it took me 3 years to find the movie.

  • jazz is more about feel than precision and technique; but you need the technique on trumpet to get the feel you want!

I love Wynton's wah here; sweet without the usual razz and very effective for the character of this song.

  • Jazz is about love....Got it?

  • Right on! You can feel the love between them.

  • @robertojimenez204 it opens all bounderies

  • I absolutely disagree. Wynston Marsalis, I feel, is at a level that very few musicians will ever reach. Most musicians that are compared to Marsalis do so with their reputations as legends in a time when jazz was truly appreciated. But few such as Arturo Sandoval and Dizzy Gilepsie can go from playing "Carnival of Venice" to "Autumn leaves" with precision and ease.

  • Sorry, but Wynton seems like a kid there, playing for his dad. Wynton may be great at playing the music--or preserving it, but he still seems like a kid, something missing there. I don't care if he's the head of Lincoln Center Jazz, he couldn't hold a candle to Dexter, Kenny Dorham, Miles, Art Farmer, etc...

  • True indeed. He may not be able to hold a candle to some of the jazz masters! However, I am certain that he didn't get where he is without having to be recognized...Yeah. he may be a kid. But look at his resume... True. There are powerful musicians who are equal to or dare I say better than Wynton! Having met him backstage with Ladysmith Black Mombazo and conversing with him I don't get the impression you so eloquently expouse! Play on brutha!

  • I hear you, synthjazz...

  • he was a kid. this was 21 years ago dog.

  • he wasn't THAT young....not like 18 or even 21.

  • @rpizell When Wynton's first album came out in 1981 he was 19 yrs old Branford is two yrs older.Fc.

  • beautiful...
