it's for the kids .. up until now, poor black kids in schools that barely teach them how to read, haven't had proof that they can do anything that they set their minds to. . . Politics aside, briefly, Obama is a role model, not just to Blacks, and to kids, but to all of us. he works hard, and thus far, has been steadfast in his resolution to do what he feels is the right thing.

It's just because of the history of slavery and segregation. Historically, a person who was 1/8 (one eighth) African descent or more was considered to be BLACK. This was on the law books for centuries - i.e if someone had one black great-grandparent, and the rest ancestors white, they were by law a black person regardless. I guess people still haven't erased this historical custom from their psyche yet.

I think you're missing the historical picture. I'm saying historically, once they could prove that you had a great-grandparent of African descent, you were considered black. Period. That was the law. This was how they divided the US to see who should drink from the fancy water fountains. I'm not trying to justify the argument that Obama is the first black President. And I'm not disputing it. I'm just neutrally stating the history.
