Just attach to each vote a random unique number and print a receipt. Publish all anonymous votes together with numbers, then each voter can chech whether his vote was counted correctly.
I'm not sure I like the idea of democracy at all, in fact I know I don't! Suggesting a democratic system is good is about as well thought out as the OWS platform on the xxkittyxcocainxgurlzxxx blog!
If we use paper, alternative voting systems such as the instant runoff vote system are next to impossible. We should use open source software to calculate votes. I think there are enough programmers in this country to spot corruption.
@dipositroniumhydride yes indeed USA is know for taking a good grasp of the bests minds but remember that this is a whole planet and theres not only people but countries and other corrupted individuals who conspire agaisnt the USA and have highly trained outlaw programers and code crakers. The fact is: The mask is not importan whats important is the huge amount of people who fit behind that mask and their purpouses with us "ok you can borrow it but take care of it" and "placing their own kitten"
@dipositroniumhydride Instant Run-Off is done with paper in some places, but it is more difficult. But since most of us don't read code, under your system we are once again dependent on others to tell us who won -- in this case "programmers." Is that really democracy? The answer might be more about designing paper ballots brilliantly, having more precincts and counters, and having election day be a national holiday.
I'd also like to say that I'm voting for the first time ever today. I'm 39. While the system might be messed up I have to start somewhere. I'm quite proud of myself. I feel like a grown up!
Great MOC, as always. I learn a lot from you Mr. Camp.
Yeah, paper is simple, intuitive, cheap, verifiable and even recyclable - but who makes money off that? How do the elite change the election results if they don't like the outcome? Are you actually talking about letting the rabble decide elections?
BTW, lawyers from the International Kitten Conspiracy will be in touch with you soon about your slander.
@liarsmakemesick Actually, you make all of us sick, why don't you shut up and go do something productive instead of trolling around the Internet giving shit to people who are doing good work.
Mr. Camp. Good stuff. But don't forget that most of those paper ballots are also being counted in secret by the same corporate voting machines (optical scanners). And even if the scanners weren't owned by private corporations but rather government insiders we'd be in the same trouble. We need publicly observable vote counts. Hand counts. In full public view. On election night. At the polling place. As one NH hand counting hero says, "It may take longer, but it's right." youtube/handsonelections
@HANDSONELECTIONS Good point and important -- it's not just paper ballots we need -- we need to count them BY HAND IN PUBLIC on election day, before they leave the precinct. Optical scanners are just as easily manipulated as the touchscreen machines.
Faith-based elections seem appropriate for a nation that can't be bothered to vote and has decided that we no longer need to know who's buying political ads. Viva la Kittenz!!
I just said this the other day too! Luckily here in this little old town we can still fill out a paper ballot, and today we vote for a new governor. Good luck to us! Spot-on as always Lee!
I think the problem spawns even earlier in the cycle, we never really have any decent candidates and when we do they are never allowed to run on the Demicran or Republicrat ballots
if u research the facts the elections have been rigged for a while now.. look at the 2010 elections they were rigged the whole thing was set up ..all the hype was a a setup for the people to believe the results they would tell us took place
Not many people know that the states with multiple Congressional districts routinely gerrymandered district boundaries so that the same party always wins. Not many people know that every two years roughly 98% - or higher - of House incumbents are re-elected. Thanks to gerrymandering, they almost can't lose. Unfortunately, the Constitution gives the power to the states to define district boundaries. They cheat. Democracy is choked as a result.
Australia has strict election laws, paper ballots, preferential voting, hell, it is illegal to NOT vote... And the Australian economy has not collapsed under the weight of corruption.
that chalk squealing/scraping sound across the blackboard's all the shackled countries being dragged behind the drunken privileged tooling over the globe in their European sports cars
LMAO. You and Miller remind me of me back in high school and college when I still gave a shit. Now that I realize that after 40 years of fluoride use and eating synthetic fast food has destroyed the critical thinking of the proletariat masses, and that there is no hope of ever reigning in the satanic bankers and attorneys, it is only apathetic curiosity that keeps me on the sidelines observing how long the lead brick called the United States will continue to glide before it crashes. L -o-
Lee I'm behind you 100 % you spit the truth until we fix the Coruption I hardly believe voteing will fix anything . 3:50 -- Anarchist squirrels; because of our agility, our independent ability to save nuts and play fondly? Oh, our knavery and persistence for abolishing feudalism!
We could get the dirty hippies at wall street to make the paper out of old jeans and phones books so as to remove the corporations from the equation. Just kidding. Although some of those hippy are dirty. ;)
@aj19bcx You forget that most people don't read computer code. Paper is NOT tedious and it's used in first world countries successfully and efficiently around the world. We've been sold a bill of goods being told paper is a problem, and voter fraud is a problem -- what is the real problem is centralized election rigging from the top down. That can only be done with computers. Any vote counting by computer is a secret "black box" operation for those of us who can't read code. Most of us!
@redeath420 Yeah, but it's a vicious cycle where we just say "But if fix problem A there's always problem B. So we might as well give up." Or "If we tackle B first, then there's problem A." I think all these things need to be tackled rather than just acting helpless.
@LeeCamp2 I agree. But I do have to say that it can look a bit hopeless when you look at the big picture. But you're right, we have to start somewhere. I think it's all too easy for the "little guy" to think that they can't make a difference, so why bother? Which is why the world is a better place for having people like you in it. And the Occupy movement is also doing a lot to open people's eyes and educate them.
@redeath420 It's getting the corporate money out of the democratic system AND getting rid of the corporate-controlled computers that count our ballots, not either/or. We have to do both, it's all the same system.
Electronic voting can be made secure.
Just attach to each vote a random unique number and print a receipt. Publish all anonymous votes together with numbers, then each voter can chech whether his vote was counted correctly.
